So I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism yesterday by my naturopath.  My blood work was kind of off all over the place - WBC and RBC were low, as well neutrophils and lymphcytes. My Vitamin D was low and my fasting glucose was higher than I thought it should be(it was 87, which is under the guidelines, but I don't eat any sugar, so I was surprised that it was that high.)

The anemia is from being a vegetarian, so my naturopath gave me a supplement for folate, B6, and B12.  I'm concerned about the hypothyroidism.  My naturopath gave me a tincture for the hypothroidism that I am starting today.  I'd prefer to avoid Synthroid, if possible.  I don't know if this has been ongoing my whole life or if this is new.  What I do know is that all of the foods that are on my anti-cancer diet are NOT on the hypothyroid diet and vice versa.

My morning smoothie has kale, spinach, watercress, dulse, soy milk, greens mix, protein mix, blueberries, and flaxseed.  All of this is supposed to reduce my risk of recurrence.  If I have to take out the goitegens (sp?), what will have I have left to eat?

Any advice for me out there?

is the best place I know of. I've been following this group as they discovered certain tests (TSH) are useless for evaluating the thyroid and certain drugs (Synthroid) can do more harm than good. There is so much accumulated knowledge there that it's probably best to buy Janie's book to follow on your own first.

Good luck, Sweetbean. I've also noticed a lot of breast cancer patients have undiagnosed thyroid issues.
