Reconstructive Surgery

Hi All!   I am finally done with all my treatments and have been given a clean PET scan result.   it's been a long year.  Now i am scheduled for reconstructive surgery on Jan 3rd.   I lost both of my breasts back in March.   My issue is that i only want to make the right decision the first time and i'm not sure whether silicone or saline is best for me.   i would choose silicone in a heartbeat if i was a smaller girl.   but i'm 5'10 and a big boned girl.   silicone only goes up to 800cc's which on me....will still look small.   with saline i can go larger to give me the appearance of being proportioned.   currently i look like a tall par.   :o)   however, saline isn't as "natural" as silicone and my dr is very pro silicone.    i have a survivor sister who is like me who got the silicone and she is very small with the full 800cc's.   she wishes she had the choice of using saline because she would've liked to have been bigger.

i'm not a vain person at all.....i don't even want what i had before (dd).....i just want to be able to be sure to appear proportionate and my dr said i would most likely be a C.   on a small girl that is a gorgeous size.....on me.....it wouldn't hardly be anything.

i would sincerely love your advice based on experience.   what did you get?  are you happy?  would you do it again?

thank you so much!

God bless!

ally, welcome to BCO, and congratulations on finishing treatment! The women of the Breast Reconstruction forum know this subject from personal experience, and they're very generous with advice and information.

Also, the main Breastcancer.org site has profiles of women who have had different types of reconstruction in the article Pictures of Breast Reconstruction.

I am smaller framed and have 450 cc silicone implants.  In a bra, I am a 34 D but they don't look like real D breasts. They don't look as big as real D's because implants do not project like real breasts and they are wider.  Just seeing what 450's look like on me, I would think for someone larger framed that even 800 cc's may look small.  Have you talked online with whippetmom?  She was very helpful to me when I was deciding on size.  She is very knowledgeable and can share so much information.  You can private message her and she will respond.  Many of us girls have chatted with her for advice.  Sorry I can't offer more help.  Best of luck!

I got my new girls six weeks ago - smooth saline, high profile, 700cc implants.

I LOVE them. My favorite bra is a 36DD.

I'm 5'5", and currently at 150 pounds (still losing...)

Not sure what your PS means by saline not being as "natural" as silicone....I love the softness of my implants, as well as the fact that they are always warm, whereas the silicone ones can stay cold.

You're right, though...the saline implants would allow you to go several sizes bigger.

p.s. I got the exact same implants that whippetmom suggested for me! Smile

Implant sizing is so confusing. I am 5'11" and 180 lbs. I was a DDD/F before dx. I have Allergan Natrelle Style 115 that are 435 cc's. my BS removed almost 700ccs of tissue from the left and 900ccs from the right (the left had rads so it shrunk up).

I wanted to be smaller and I am but not by much. My left side was done last Dec. 12 2011. My right was just done on Sept. 11 2012 so it is still healing. I haven't been able to buy a new bra yet as I was lopsided until now (I did buy a couple of the super stretchy Bali Comfort Revolution bras to wear during the interim but they don't have a cup size per se). However, if I were to hazard a guess, I would say I am still D cup.

Why are my implants so much smaller yet I still have a D cup?

    <-----boggled mind.</p>

Thank you Moderators for the advice on breastcancer.org.   i did go to that site and it helped me alot!  more than you know.   i appreciate your help!

MDG & Blessings2011.....thank you as well for your experience.....it really helps alot.   I love hearing that you love your saline.....i no longer fear them thanks to all the great comments i've heard.   i'm not sure why my PS isn't more for them as opposed to silicone.   i will definitely be sending whippetmom a note as well.   thanks for passing her info to me.

superfoob......its just crazy what people have said about the different sizes.  my girlfriend thought i was crazy for thinking 800ccs might be too small on me because she had an augmentation with 375ccs.   its different because they still have their full breasts to work with....we do not.

thank you so much for all your advice and experience.......i sincerely appreciate it!   i don't know what i would do without you ladies!    mad love for you all!   :o

I understand about augmenters still having their original breast tissue.

I don't. I had mastectomies on both sides. BC on the left and Prophy on the right.

Maybe I have a narrow torso? My rib cage directly under my breasts is 32.5".

Hope your day is going well. Smiles!
