zometa AND fosamax?????

Options

Extremely concerned and hoping someone can advise me if this is normal. The registrar onc.at my local hospital has added fosamax to my drugs.I have zometa twice a year ( due for my 4th in a couple months) and now he wants me to take fosamax as well. After reading the side effects it seems i now have twice as much chance of getting one of the side effects.

Is anyone else out there taking both these drugs.

The zometa is to strengthen my bones after chemo induced ostepenia. My bone density test came back with a lower result hence the fosamax.I also take femara.

As I am going through the public system I don't think I can get through to the onc. until my next appointment.I have found that G.P's are not really up to speed on the drugs used to treat breast cancer.I would greatly appreciate any feed back offered ...I am quite anxious over this.

I don't know if that is normal or not but it does seem strange. If it were me I would just not take it until I clarified things with the onc. But I am biased against those drugs because my mom took fosamax and had to have her esophagus dilated. She has been off of it for a few years now and her bones have improved due to the supplements she takes and she always makes sure to get her weight bearing exercise in.

Thanks . I had before chemo been a runner averaging 50km's per week plus weight lifting . My bone density wasn't that great even before chemo. All my life I've eaten well even to the point f being over fussy . In theory my bones should be great . I even managed 2 hrs walk most days during chemo.

So who knows. Yes I agree I think I will give the fosamax a big miss till I see onc.
