    One meal at a time!

My problem isn't meals so much as snacks. I am trying to stay a few pounds below my ideal weight so I have wiggle room. Did you know that each nut from a can of mixed nuts has 7 calories? Those add up so fast!

I like to keep nuts around for a treat, but if DH gets into them they are history.

I like those individual serving size bags of baby carrots. The crunch is fun and if it gets boring - SALSA!

Actually, fish oil is endorsed for diabetics by the American Diabetic Association. Diabetics are more subject to heart disease than others and fish oil helps keep some components of cholesterol under better control. They actually are supposed to try to achieve lower numbers than the average person. Tough to do.

I go for the fish oil with the greatest percentage of Omega-3--it's the best.

People who are on blood thinner need to be concerned about fish oil because it can thin the blood some. That may be a point for people on tamoxifen, esp if also on blood thinners, to discuss with their doctors.

Good point Ginger, I had to stop Omega three before surgery. I am doing okay, I think I needed a slap in the face.

They often recommend vitamin E for tamoxifen hot-flashes. That can also impeed blood clotting.

    Cowgirl,
Good for you if you can eat only 4 pieces of chocolate. I have come to the conclusion that I can only buy one dark chocolate bar a week, and let myself have only one piece a day. Otherwise, I will eat 3-4 pieces a day, and that sure doesn't help my weight.
My other problem is almonds. I know that they are very good for me, and buy them in 4 pound bags at Sam's club. I don't know how to limit myself on them. I just keep grabbing a few here and there-darn it.

Denise, Have you thought about buying some snack size ziplock bags and repackaging them. Put in however many you want to eat in a day and just grab a bag a day - those big cans are the devil!!!

Then put the portion-sized bags in the freezer. You can take one out in the morning and let it thaw. The others will be frozen solid, and not so tasty to eat.

    Kari,
I had thought of that, but have to do one better.
Rose-that is the one better that I thought of.
However, I have decided that I need to put 11 almonds into each bag (2 WW points), and write on the bag the date that I may eat them, and then line them neatly into a container and put them into the freezer. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to grab 2 bags at once to nibble on.
This is ridiculous, but something has to be done. And I also started, once again, to count up my points. I go out to eat so often, though, that it is hard to figure out the points (my feeble excuse).
    Thanks gals, for the advice!

    I think that's a pretty good idea.

When I go to work I put my lunch and numerous snacks in my brown bag, and that's it. If I eat it all by 11 o'clock then I don't have any more nibbles until I get home.

Sometimes when I work at home I do the same thing, otherwise I'm back and forth to the kitchen for a bite of this and that - which adds up.

I like those ideas1 I am at the stage of my diet where I do not need to lose alot, but maintain my current weight, so treating myself to a snack, but not overindulging is key.

I will use those snack zip lock bags for snacks.

I am so proud! I finally counted my points for a whole day and only went 3 points over my limit. However, I gained 1/2 of a pound, but I think that it is my previous binges catching up.
I haven't yet bagged up my almonds as I think that I should be able to resist them. Get some control, woman!!!!
But I did buy only one Hershey's dark chocolate bar at Wal-Mart yesterday. I promise to eat just one square a day, and not run out and buy more!!!!!!

    Denise, good job!!!

Bag the almonds. It's not about will power it's about planning and if you have the bags ready, you have a plan you can stick to. I'd drink my weight in Pepsi if I let it in the house, so it doesn't get to live here. Since the nuts are good for you you should keep them but make them less available.

    The baggie brigade!

Not baggie clothes, just little plastic things with measured-out treats in them.

    Right Rose,
I will be the first to testify that my clothes are no longer baggy! I fill them out quite well, unfortunately.

I started lunch good - the grilled chicken Asian salad from Mc. Donalds - then topped it off with a hot fudge sundae!!! It was worth every point (7!) that it cost me!

It's good to eat right but every now and then have to go for YUM or what's the use!!

Pita bread is usually on the good fiber list. The vegies probably help as well.

I haven't tried that Asian salad from McD yet, but I'm sure I will. Did the hot fudge have nuts?

No, I skipped the nuts as there were almonds on the salad.

I suspect that compared to going to a Ben&Jerry's or HagenDaz that the McD sundae has less fat/calories. Isn't it the soft serve ice cream?

Yes - soft serve. 330 calories and 9g fat.

Nothing good about it but the taste!!
