S/P Mast and still with positive margins

Options

I just had mast one week ago but have florid LCIS at inferior margins which they will need to excise.  The good news is that they did not find ILC (dx on 7/12 and 8/12 bx's) and there were negative nodes.  Florid LCIS has 80% incidence of ILC and should be treated like DCIS.  I was hoping to avoid radiation with mast.  Has anyone been through a similar experience?  Is it possible to get clear margins?  Should I be Tamoxifen ASAP?

 Thanks in advance.  Love to all you strong women going through this.  XOXO

    @karmicmom,

    I don't know the answer to your main question. You also asked about tamoxifen, but to answer that, people will need to know whether your tumor is hormone-receptor positive. That information should be in the pathology report from your surgery, if you have gotten it yet, and may also be in the reports from your biopsies. You can add the information to "My Diagnosis" (click the My Profile link at the top right corner of the screen, then the "My Diagnosis" tab, click the "Add Diagnosis" button, and fill in the questionnaire. The information will then appear below your posts if you check the "Attach signature" button before submitting.) More information about your particular kind of breast cancer will help people give you a better answer to your questions.

    Best wishes for successful treatment!

    Hi Curveball,

      Sorry, I'm new to this forum and just made my dx and tx public.  I am a candidate for Tamoxifen because I am ER+ but it can cause clots so I should probably wait, especially if I need surgery again soon.

      Thanks you for your best wishes!

    XO,

    Karmicmom

    @karmicmom, it also depends on whether you are pre- or post-menopausal. I am sure your oncologist can advise you about when to start taking tamoxifen, if it's appropriate for your treatment.
