Hi ladies Just returned from Cuba.Found these while snorkling but don't worry I put them back where I found them
-
Sunrise shot from our patio
-
I had no idea that racoons could be so viscous. The ones here in our neibourhood prefer messing up garbage bins.
-
Hang on!! A dog will chase a cat too, but it doesn`t want to EAT it!! We had a racoon scratch the eyeball out of our dog once and had to get it put down. We didn`t expect the raccoon to eat that dog either, it was just defending it`s garbage can!! I have to Google this....
-
And here it is:
Wondering what do raccoons eat?
These animals can be summed-up using two words
- omnivorous and opportunistic.Simply put, this means that these furry little critters will eat what's available at any time, whether that is meat or plants.
Now. Of course, much of the raccoon diet will depend on the current habitat they are residing in. In some areas plants make up a larger percentage of the food they eat. In others, it is meat.
Examples of menu items would include...
acorns
berries
apples
corn (This is a major stable in many areas.)
cherries
wild grapes
persimmons
beech nuts
figs
peaches
watermelons
plums
walnuts.
citrus fruits
And that's just a short list of the plant foods they'll eat. And no, it makes no difference whether it is rotten or not! As a former Florida Wildlife Control officer and one who's been around these animals for his entire life, I speak from experience when I say they eat pretty much anything! As far as meat goes, Raccoons consume more invertebrates than vertebrates.
Things like...
crayfish
insects
rodents
frogs
fish
bird eggs
... are all possible components of the raccoon diet. -
Such an education we get in this room!!!
Joni, I read the meaning behind your sentence correctly the first time, but sooo glad you followed up with the explanation cause it gave me a good laugh

ooooo! Love that one chabba!
-
Joni, the caption on the photo said it was taken on the Oregon coast.
-
Chabba, We went to Sequim Bay and stayed at a little shack right on the water (actually pilings on one side). During the day Saturday we went up to Hurricane Ridge and did some hiking. While we ate our sandwiches at lunch, we heard a raven high up in a tree near us. Then an answering call, and the pair flew off to hunt together. The weather was cool but sunny and the views were gorgeous. Came back to Seattle on the noon ferry.
-
Sounds wonderful. I love our beach and am so glad we live here where we can enjoy it any time. I do miss, however, visiting the beaches in Oregon or going up the Hood Canal. I'ld love to be able to meet a bunch of the Wash, Ore women somewhere midpoint for a get together. DH could probably do the 180 mile round trip to Olympia but I'm not sure I'm up to the 50 mile round trip to Aberdeen.
Used to love Whidbey Island when the wild Rhodies bloom.
-
I just love Sequim..I have two friends who love there..I love visiting them!
-
chabba - Wow, that one is amazing. Wonder how they got that shot so perfect???!!
-
Bet they had something better than a cell phone! And something with a pretty fast shutter speed.
-
Ya think!! Seriously, no matter what they used it is an amazing picture.
-
Here is a nice calming beach
