Statistics are just numbers and breast cancer treatment (in my opinion) is frighteningly similar to playing the horses in some respects.  No one can predict your outcome with any degree of accuracy.  Once you have had breast cancer, you are at risk for a recurrence or a new breast cancer.

That said, my statistics suggest a very good prognosis and I hold onto that because it helps me emotionally.  I am more likely to be okay, than not.  Sometimes, that is what gets me through the day.  Whatever works.  But, also according to statistics, I have a far greater risk of dropping dead from a heart attack or stroke, than I do of developing breast cancer (again).

It can drive you downright crazy.

    Hi Tanya,

Your diagnoses was the exact same as mine.  I was also triple negative, in stage 2a, no lymph nodes affected, I had a lumpectomy, radiation, and chemo treatment and tumor was also grade 3.  My oncologist told me that I had a 80% chance of the cancer not returning.  I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.  I was only 26 at the time so it was EXTREMELY difficult for me being forced to deal with breast cancer at such a young age. But It's been 5 years now since I was diagnosed, and I am doing good.  I am in good health. I just had my last follow up appointment on February 13th, 2012 and everything is fine.

I know it's hard, but please try not to get too depressed over it.  I'm sure you'll be fine as well.

I was dx with tnbc I'm a brca 1 first bc in 1999 was er/pr positive so this is a new cancer my lump 1.8cm clear nodes 0/7 I had a bmx apparently caught in early stages but my mo after reviewing my path said I have a 30-40% of recurrence to chest wall and organs but chemo would cut it in half why would my prognosis be so grim when it was caught so early? I start chemo on Monday
