Is it ok to eat veggie burgers..
-
Curveball, I basically just cut way back without cutting whatever it is completely out. Most weeks I have 1-3 glasses of wine. If someone serves a sweet I really like, I will have some. But I try to be more mindful of what I eat and take the time to make a tomato salad, for example, instead of grabbing a grilled cheese, not eat sweets just because they are there, skipping the white bread and the fries and so on.

I have been eating healthier,,I do though indulge in stoneyfields frozen organic yougart..it's really good..I also eat a lot of tomatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, organic milk/organic Greek yougart/blueberries/cherries and organic oatmeal also brown rice and was told to use extra vergin olive oil so doing my best I have lost 12lbs since I stopped cheo..trying

I started a thread on the Alternative forum for Anti-Cancer recipes. If you need some new ideas, check it out!

Agave ia supposed to have a low glycemic index, and is favoured by diabetics also. However, I recently read that agave, and all sugars including honey, are best avoided.
Recently I have changed from jam on my toast, to a light spray of olive oil, topped with sprinkled cinnamon. And now I actually love it!
I agree with others too, that following the Anti-Cancer diet has helped me keep my weight (and my husband's) at a good level. Plus it is very consistent with our Canada Food Guide as well s WeightWatchers recipes. -
I don't trust any sweeteners. They are all 'wonderful' when the first appear on the market. Then the truth comes out.
With natural sweeteners like agave, I think they may start out in their pure form but the money making machine invent unnatural ways to stretch the product to make more $$.

This recent article by Andrew Weil has made me rethink agave. I only use a few drops in my decaf coffee and an occasional recipe, and I've tried to choose the most natural-looking brands. But I want to get away from using it at all based on this:

Thanks for the link. Just as I suspected. The blush is off the rose.

DLB, thanks for the link. It seems like the bottom line is that "sweet" in any concentrated form is a bad idea. I try to stay away from sweets and stick with fruit and 70% chocolate to satisfy any need for sweetness. Once in a while, I have a spoon of honey on some yogurt, but not very often.

NEWS!!!
Ok, I am answering my own question RE: BC news of 9 . 23. 2012.It seems there has been a bit of a breakthrough.
http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nature11412.html
Among other things, one of the things determined was that *certain* types of BC are similar to ovarian cancer and may respond favorably to similar tx.
Soooooooooo, who knows how ovarian cancer is treated ?
-
," it looks like the kind that acts like ovarian cancer is the triple negative kind. Thankfully neither you nor I are triple negative. "
Right! Looks like it may be promising for triple negs.Promising for all in the long run it would seem if they are looking closely at all 4 types. Fingers crossed !

I found these two videos at MD Anderson website that I think you could see if you have some interest in anticancer book. The first video is lecture by author of the book where he explains the basic ideas of his book.
Is there a Anticancer Lifestyle?
July 2009
Dr.
Servan-Schreiber discusses how changes in our diet and lifestyle affect
our natural defenses; and what health behaviors can help to stimulate
our natural mechanisms against developing cancer.http://www3.mdanderson.org/streams/FullVideoPlayer...
Living the Anti-Cancer Life: The Legacy of David Servant-Schreiber, MD, PhD (96:53)
2012
Dr. Lorenzo Cohen provides an update on the research detailed in Servan-Schreiber’s best-selling book Anti-Cancer, and Franklin Servan-Schreiber shares his year by his brother's side - the struggles and the laughs in the face of terminal illness, David's motivation for writing his last book, and what he feels were the important messages bearing the gift of hope against despair. -

Such a fabulous book! Thx for sharing this link.

even tho lifestyle (diet and exercise) is not 100% guarantee that it can prevent BC but i think reading from the statics, it's something tangible that we can follow and make us feel there's something that we can control.
a swimmer can drown but it doesn't mean we should stop learning how to swim.
like momine, i really care about the QoL. and exercise and clean eating really make me feel good. but i do indulge myself once in a while.

They are finding out more benefits of meditation. I believe Deepak Chopra haqs just revealed news from a large study of how much it benefits for illness preventions. Stress...gotta love it !
-
there are many many kinds of meditation, clearing your mind of thought is only one. there are better ones, more valuable & curative for everyone in my view
-
Thanks for the above link. I loved listening to his brother talk about the whole process.

Here's some exciting new research re. diet & bc recurrence! http://www.oncologynurseadvisor.com/diet-may-impa... I just posted this link in the clinical research forum, but wanted to repost it here, since it relates to this discussion. This sounds like a very exciting breakthrough -- perhaps the reason why we are sometimes so divided on whether or not diet can make a difference. It sounds like sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't, depending on that IGF1 receptor. Deanna

Yes, re recommending the book Sweetbean. The book is very interesting, it's author uniquely situated. And it's very sad that he has been dead for 3 years now, as information and developments in the field are fast moving. One can only wonder how he'd revise the book if he were alive to edit and re-release it now in 2014. At least I wonder!!! He used to have a blog where he'd comment on stuff, I think it's since been taken down.

@Abigail...I would love to hear more about what you know about meditation. I've been doing the "mindfulness" type, similar to Deepak's recordings except done by others. I would like to expand upon my practice. It's really helping with my stress.
