Sept 2012 chemo

Finally, my brain is working again. Body not so hot. Had to sit down after walking about a city block from parking lot to hospital location where I had the 4th Neupogen shot for low white cells. This is after the Neulasta which I also had. Have to go back tomorrow for 5th, and then back to Cancer Center Monday for blood and maybe another. I'm going to see if they will let my husband do it. It usually takes half an hour to get where ever and wait and wait, and then they have to pick up medicine. Exasperating.
Finally, 10 days after first A/C chemo, I am beginning to feel like staying dressed and moving around a little. I'm actually getting a little spirit back. Wheee.
Doing the club list was my first mental task in a week. Transfer to Excel, Sort Alphabetically, move to Word. Figure out how to remove Excel formatting stuff. Figure out how to paste it into website with no spaces between names. Not bad for an old broad of 75 who never had a Word or Excel class.
Hopefully, all your Side Effects will float away in the night. Hugs

Cheerio,
I hope you are feeling better. Been there, done that! I had my first chemo treatment on September 17 and became nauseated four hours after I finished treatment. I vomited every evening for three nights. I am not looking forward to my next treatment on October 1! I began to feel better after about 72 hours. I am hopeful that my doctor can adjust my anti-nausea meds to help me in the future. If anyone has any tips, I welcome them.
By the way, I am 47, married, no kids. My breast cancer was found on a yearly mammogram after I felt a thickening in my right breast. My breasts are dense, so it is suspected that the cancer had been there for awhile and did not show up on the previous year's mammogram. My OB/GYN did not feel it during my breast exam on February 29, 2012.

talked to MO's office, once, yesterday, once, today. Bone pain is wiping me out! I am allergic to many (many!) painkillers, so am taking tramadol with antihistamine..... and the pain continues. Jeez. Ready for it to quit!
Sherrie
ps. taste buds are pretty comical: corn, pineapple, cranberry sauce, more corn. Pretty silly!
-
Mariposa: I love your blog!!
Damiana: I totally hear you about the steroids. I'm thinking I haven't really felt the effects of the Taxol or Herceptin because all my SEs from the steroids are crowding everything else out!!
Cindi74: Thank you so much for taking the time to post everyone from our exclusive group that no one wants to join!!
-
Sorry, I just re-read my last post and with all those exclamation points it kind of looks like I'm still strung out on steroids...they actually wore off a couple of days ago.
-
Sherrie: My taste buds have also been totally off. I have been able to eat a blueberry bagel, a fudgecicle, water with pineapple juice, and jello. What is funny, is I generally try very hard not to eat sugar! Oh well.
Anyone else eating anything comforting???? I have heard that it isn't a good idea to eat your favorite foods because you might create a taste aversion later to them. I just need things that wll stay down!
-
rsdavid, Are you taking the Claridin before on the day you get the shot, and for seven days afterwards?
-
Mariposa, I can't find your blog address.
-
Cindy thank you for adding everyone to the list and being. Such a love. Glad you are feeling better.
-
7312012 , welcome and I am sorry you felt yucky your first round . I am starting to feel a little better now . If I have to go through two days six more times to get through this i look at that as a short time for me . You will do fine next time hang in there
-
Mariposa, I found your blog. It is the first blog I ever joined. It is artistic, thoughtful, informative, and touching. How you are leading your children through this dark valley that confronts your young family seems perfect. What a task dealing with young minds when your body and brain are overwhelmed with chemical SE! My heart is with you. Hugs

Mariposa,
Try Greek yogurt, Cheerios with milk, mash potatoes, nuts, peanut butter on toast., fruit & yogurt smoothie ice cream or freeze the boost to make slush.. You will feel better when you have more food down.
I love your blog to, I also have a first grader and in Bay Area. -

Hello Ladies....So I had my first treatment last Friday and so far, not too bad. Of course I've been taking my anti nausea and other assorted meds. How many of these SE's are accumulative? I have 3 more A/C (every 2 wks) and then 12 Taxol (1x wk). I know the fatigue will get worse, but so far my appetite has been fine and no real bad taste in my mouth. The only thing that has started in the couple days is terrible heartburn and I already take a daily Nexium. Oh we'll....rock on ladies!
-
Cindi - I haven't had any neulasta shots. Mind is bone pain entirely from the taxotere. it does seem to be subsiding - down to two really tender "jabbing" spots. Hope they stop so i can sleep, tonitht.
Mariposa - I am eating so very little, that i am simply trying to eat. No real appetite, ex cept for bizarre stuff. My friend says i am now exploring the "red and yellow" food groups. If I were an artist, perhaps it would be a comparison to a 'blue" period - ha

Jojo,
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate the support as I am sure I will need it in the coming months.Butterfly,
Yes please do let me know how that goes for you. I am getting the port placed in the morning then having my first treatment the same day. Good luck to you as well...*hugs*Allurbaddayswillend,
That's good to know. I hope I kind of am in the same boat with regards to bouncing back. I am in grad school and am still attending classes/teaching so I can't be completely miserable. -
Waiting and Butterfly hope your 1st round goes good, I will be thinking of you. I will be doing bloodwork and getting ready for my 2nd go around Wednesday.
Justine thank god you found your lump, and they say if you are under 40 your chances of BC are slim, that's just a bunch of bull. When I look at the list Cindi has made look at how many woman are in there 40's or younger. Well I am so happy you are now getting on with treatment, you will be just fine....
Cheerio I hope you feel better soon, just a couple more days and you should be through the worst of this cycle. Are you finding this cycle different than your first round?
All you girls who are on your second cycle are you finding it to be different than the first time?
JoJo and Mariposa I hope you both feel better soon.</p
Cindi I am also married and the radiologist found my cancer.
Jodi and Damien I also had the steroids making me wired...it did settle down after a few days. -
bearcub I am finally over the yucky part ate some chicken rice soup and that helped now I am just vegging with the kids . ,poking forward to my head getting shaved tomorrow . My husband is ready t o do it we shall see how it looks
-
Mariposa your blog is beautifully done. Those owl pictures your daughter did for you were priceless, what a little sweetie.
Cheerio, glad you are feeling better and able to spend some time with your little ones. I still have not shaved my head, if I grab my hair or run my hands through it about 30 hairs come out but it still does not look too bad..it doesnt seem to be falling out unless I touch it, I have real thick hair, so now it just has that flat look but it is still not to bad. I am ready though, I wonder if one day I will wake up and it will all be on my pillow!
Cindi I am also married and my cancer was found by the radiologist . -
English Rose - my last infusion I had the same trouble sleeping for a couple days. My doc suggested a couple things. Schedule infusion early in the day, if possible. If benadryl makes you sleepy, as it does for me, then try taking benedryl. She also said I could take melatonin and if nothing worked we could revisit the amount of steroid, but they prefer not to mess with that unless the sleep deprivation is really debilitating. For some reason I had no trouble getting to sleep after this last infusion (my third), but even so I woke up very early. Hoping you're fast asleep by now, enjoying some much needed z's.
-
Cindi i just love you for taking the time to do the list ty!
I am 50 when u update next time. -
To all those who are feeling sick, it will pass (and I hope it does very quickly.)
Just wanted to say that I had some bad days after my first infusion, but this weekend, I was feelling good!.
I write this by way of inspiration, not to minimize anybody's suffering, but to point out that there will be good times ahead!!!
Keep the faith
Cheryl
PS Cindi, I share in JoJo's thank you for compiling the list. Good job!
-
Cindi... Im 34 if you want to add it to the list.
Patricia.. No I use melatonin for a sleep aid and I usually only take 5mg but when its just after for before chemo I bump it to 10mg to really make sure I get some much needed zzzz's. Its all natural and has effects of fighting cancer too!
-
Updated my pic to topless :-)
-
Amy,
Thanks for posting that link about the anti-cancer effects of melatonin. I was told to use melatonin as needed as a sleep aid, but never realized I was helping fight my cancer battle at the same time!!
I will use it on a regular basis now.
Cheryl
-
JoJo,
Great pic! Topless, I love it
You go, girl!!

Hi ladies! My name is Ashley. I am 25. I will be starting chemo next week and have a million questions! I am newly diagnosised and feel like am living a horrible nightmare. Does port placement hurt? Will I have a lot of stitches from the port placement? How long do chemo infusions last? Is is true that your finger nails may turn black? Has anyone heard that soy products are forbidden if you are ER+.
