Lymphedema Upper Extremity Home Program
Hi everybody,
The Michigan State University has a new video for UE lymphedema exercises. They now have a total of 6 videos about lymphedema bandaging and self care which are available on their web site. Here is the link:

Nitocris, these are GREAT--I watched the exercises and the MLD video--great resources.
We need a pinned page with all of your resources!
THANKS
-
The MLD video is excellent! The best I've seen--even does the HAND--although not the palm

Kira,
Thanks. Let's hope they keep on posting more videos for LE self care.
-
I sent it to Joe Zuther, and he's thrilled with them: he'll use them on the blog. Great resource. You are the best in finding these resources!
-
It's so much more useful to see a video of someone doing self massage rather then massage on someone else! I felt her speed was faster then what I've been showmn "sunrise...sunset." Anyone else feel that way?
Nitocris - Thanks for posting!
-
awesome. Thanks for posting this Nitocris!
-
Thanks Kira
I'll keep on looking. There are certainly more resources to be found.
-
Thank you for the links. I do like seeing the actual demostrations. She was a little quick but it is the technique that she is showing that helps. I even practiced (not a full massage) and did what she did as she did it.
I need to make sure I pay closer attention to my massages while dealing with sleeve fitter issues.
-
I wish they'd offer an alternative video for those of us who are bilateral, or have LE on one side but at risk on the other. Seems like there are quite a few of us, but we're under the radar.
Just grumping
,

Grumping with you, Binney!

I agree that she's quicker than "sunrise/sunset" and she didn't do the moves 10 times--they said 5-7 in my CLT class--I think she was demonstrating the technique.
It altered how I did my MLD today, and I think I did a better job. Turning the arm inward, on the upper portion helped me get to areas I think I miss normally.
Yeah, there's nothing out there for bilateral.

I watched skipped thrusome of these videos and thought they were the best yet. I didn't have sound on but I could tell they were so visual. Just up my alley. We really do need a pin up area with some of these great videos so they can catch our eyes. Especially for the newbies such as myself. And I like the way Kira has the experience to go over them and rate them. Videos like these can really help people that can't afford regular treatment ,as long as we caution them to do it right and if they post their concerns to the pin up.
I am ever so gratefull for Nitocris research and Kira's expertise. And of course Binney too. Hang on Binney I bet Nitocris will dig up a bilateral video somewhere.
Where do you find the Joe Zuther blog?
-
Hi,
Joe Zuther has both a blog and a Facebook page. He posted the link for the MSU exercises on his Facebook page "Lymphedema Guru"

Binney, I can relate to risk of the other arm. I always have directed the fluide toward my back and then clear the back area too. If I am by myself I reach as far back as possible and then use a door frame to sort of help - sounds silly I know but we do what we have to. If my husband is around it's a nice way to get a back rub. I just make sure to have him do small circles starting high and working down.
I am paying more attention to and spending more time with massages while my night sleeve is being redone. I am going to start wrapping again a couple days or nights a week just to stay on top of it. Getting measured for new day sleeves next week. -
Jennifer, you made me smile!
Hey! A doorframe is our friend, right?! Love it!
I emailed the therapist who did these videos and told her how hard it is to find good follow-up information for bilateral LE or bilateral risk, and she wrote back that she'll be happy to make a video for bilateral and truncal LE. Can't do it right away, but she'll get to it as soon as she can. We lymphers have some real heroes out there working hard for all of us. Takes my breath away!
Be well!
Binney -
Thanks, Binney! And thanks to the therapist!

Is there any way that we can get the packet of paper that does with the video? How do we know how many repitiions and how many times I day do we do it?
Boy, I am sure getting the shitty end of the stick for LE in my area. My le therapist only gave me things to do at home until I ASKED for it and all she gave me is a sheet of MLD. I am getting so upset with the lack of competent LE care in this area!! I was told by my back PT and the receptionist that she was good. THe LE therapist also told me that she is sooooo up to date and goes to so many conferences.
My opinion is that she doesn't go there to really learn and help patients, she probably goes to talk about herself.
-
Binney, you are always on top of things, that's for sure - thank you
.
-
Binney, You smarty pants; to be asking for that bilat video and getting an answer back too!
Oh my, I just reread your post....She going to do a truncal video too. AWESOME!
