Hi everyone!!
I was just diagnosed with Stage 3 and I am new to the complementary field. Which supplements are a must in fighting the beast?
Thanks!!!

Vitamin D3 is essential.

Hopefully someone will add to the list. I too am interested since my diet has turned into a SEE - FOOD DIET......I want to eat everything I see!!!!! Maybe if I took more vitamins, I would eat less food!!
-
complementary - so, does that mean you'll be doing chemo?
if yes, the GLUTAMINE is a must... check with your oncos.... but this one has actually be through clinical trials and shown to reduce side effects like neuropathy and mouth sores, among other things....
good luck!

What is your ER/PR and HER2 status? Current treatment regimine? upcoming treatment? This can play a role in chosing or avoiding certain supplements.

Hi!! I heard that pectin is good to use before and after surgery, and chemo. It helps the cancer cells to bind together - and not spread apart somehow. Got this from cancer treatment of america. Also, turmeric, fish oil capsules, omega 3-6 etc. capsules, also organic veggies if you can get them. Many foods have MSG, preservatives, toxins, pesticides in them. Scientists have tampered so much with our food by adding and taking away stuff, and homogenizing stuff, that alot of nutrients are taken out. I also even heard that the silver fillings in our teeth have mercury in them, that releases an invisible vapor that can make us sick. So I am going to ask my dentist if mercury is used in the fillings (he may deny it, who knows?) One doesn't know in this world anymore who to trust (and i am not a paranoid person who thinks there are conspiracy theories everywhere). The drug companies make billions of dollars a year selling meds to doctors and consumers alike! I heard, too, that MSG will "switch off" the part in our brain that says we are full, that is why people eat and engorge (myself included) and love fast food (it is full of msg) -- fries, chips, burgers, etc -- google what all foods MSG is in. Anyway, didn't mean to get off on other tangents, but calcium with vitamin D3 is good, too, and vitamin C for immune system. I like nature made or the type u get in health food store. I am sure there are more good supplements out there, but eating good veggies (fruits, veggies, berries) are good -- and cut back on meat, and cut out gluten and alot of breads, flour (especially white), and sugar. Aspartame is bad for you too. One lady who worked at an Aspartame plant got pituitary tumors and other problems from scooping aspartame powder out of a barrel (it was her job). Con Agra -- you have to watch what you eat from them, too.

Personally, I would add grape seed extract to the mix. It certainly can't hurt.
Ahh She, a woman after my own heart. We follow the same diet! I really have to stop watching the food network. I want to make (and eat) just about everything I see.

My essentials:
VitaminD3
Multivitamin for women
Co-q 10
Fish Oil
BUT ask your onc because I understand that not all supplements can be taken while chemo is happening. You might have to wait for chemo treatment to be over before you take certain things. Your onc. nurse may be an even better source of advice in this sense.

What is the best way to purchase the vitamins? Walgreens ok?
I am recovering from double mastectomy and reconstruction. Two weeks post op tomorrow. I wonder how I am going to be ready to go back to work. I have so much swelling. They tell me its normal. I don't have to have any treatments, but I am interested in getting back on my supplements.

Just be aware of the source. Read the label carefully. I always avoid supplements that read "Prepared for (whatever company). I find that's usually the case with big-box stores. You never know where the ingredients come from. And if you'll be taking calcium, I would make sure it's "citrate". The citrate however, is only my/physician's opinion. Others make no distinction, but that's something you can research on your own to see if it's worth it to you to spend the extra bucks.

I take multivitamin, vitamin D, iron, Vitamin C, Omega 3's, turmeric, pro-biotic, calcium/magnesium/zinc combo. I am looking into modified citrus pectin. My holistic MD suggested that.

Everyone's individual needs are different = my disclaimer.
I take: omega-3 fish oil capsules, vitamin D, iron, turmeric, green tea, ground flax seeds, probiotics, melatonin, and fiber because of the iron, ugh.
Quality does not matter so much with melatonin or vitamin D, IMO, but quality is REALLY important with Omega-3s (has to be pharmacuetical grade). Turmeric and green tea are best organic, as is practically everything. Drugstores rarely have good quality supplements, but there are plenty of online suppliers. I get most of my supplements by "subscribing" to them on that-big-online-retailer-that-used-to-just-sell-books-and-begins-with-A, because you get a discount and free shipping that way.
