Laurie- OMG! I am sitting here eating a small square of dark chocolate with some popscorn and am so jelious that I don't have some big hunk like that licking my fingers lol! I love my husband but....hehe! I loved the post you put on FB made me tear up!
Joyce- Thinking about you and wondering how you are feeling?
(((((((Moon)))))) Still thinking of you xoxo
Lacey- Wow, Can't believe all this time you spent preparing and helping this person and she has no idea to even work the phone! Geesh! You may be right and not be able to walk away just yet.
My sister wanted to go to the casino tonight and I wanted to stay home so I dropped her off and told her call me when you are ready to come home and have fun, she said I feel like I am being dropped of for school I told her this is not like any school I have been too! I felt like her mother as she walked away lol! But i felt this emptyness too knowing this was going to be so sad when i have to take her to the airport ;-((

Happy birthday (((Moonflower!)))

Eric... no need to go to any trouble, but i hear that if you smear some dough on a piece of wax paper... and let it dry - 'll try it definitely. I find the dough is the secret to the flavor of the bread. the longer you 'work' it the crustier the crust and the deeper the flavor.. i think it's real interesting. a couple more days and I'll be baking... maybe tomorrow. in fact.. i might start some starter now.. it won't be ready but in a couple days.
-
Laurie MMMMMM thanks! Now we all have visions in our heads.
Had a seminar last night and didnt get home till 9 Dh had leftover salad for dinner...and I had a bowl of cereal. Felt like having a bowl of soup, but of course none in the pantry since we dont eat it in the summer. Gotta stock up, and of course when the temps start getting cooler will be making homemade soups.
Eric Looks like you are getting some rain...and cooler temps? Friends of ours just got back from Arizona and said it was so hot they had to duck into a Walmart to get cool.
Happy Birthday Moonflwr:) Hope you are home by now and healing.
-
Happy Birthday MoonFlower - hopefully you are now celebrating it at home with your daughter.
AuntieNance - good luck with your house sale, may fortune smile on you and you sell it quickly and easily for full price!!! We will be placing ours on the market within the next month or two as well.
-
Happy Birthday wishes to you Moonflwr!!
Yesterday, I had a call from a friend of a friend who is deciding about bc treatment options, wanted to understand about oncotype test, etc.
It turns out that this woman is very involved in holistic health issues, and she is very concerned about the connection between root canals as a cause of cancer. She is having her root canals removed. Has anyone ever heard of this connection? Not that I am heading to any endodontist's chair for ANY removals! -
Happy Birthday Moon (((hugs))) thinking of you.
-
Thx to all for the wishes, and especially to Laurie for the chocolate one. And Chabba for the cake! Nice visual! LOL
My daughter is on her way back to PA, I am supposed to be discharged this afternoon. I will have a nurse give me iv anti biotics for a week or two at home, they're not quite sure. Whew, are we having FUN yet? LOL gotta laugh, no one would believe this if they made a movie of it! LOL -
On the topic of sourdough - if you like your bread real tangy, set your starter two days before you want to bake. Harvest your starter to save for next time the next day, add a little more flour and leave it out until baking day.
-
about the tooth connection to cancer.... I never heard about root canals (of which I have one), but I have heard of a connection between metal fillings and cancer. I don't know if the connection is real or not, but I do know a number of people who are having them removed and replaced with something else (can't remember what it's called)
-
Garden, I had also heard about the metal filling connection, but this one seems different....something about the fact that bacteria can collect in the tooth and since no blood flow gets to it, our immune systems can't flush it out or somethig. I can post the article this woman sent me, but I do tend to resist getting nerved up about these "findings".
Apparently there is a book by Suzanne Somers called "Knockout" that talks about all sorts of causes like this....not sure I will be reading it lest I end up feeling like I have to go hide in a closet to be safe! -
Moonflwr I was getting chemo, and on New Years eve the doctor decided my counts were too low and wanted me to have a transfusion...I was like "on New Years Eve" He would not let it go even a day. I had both kids in town for the Holiday and my sons new girlfriend that I had not met yet and there I sat in the hospital. I took some evening clothes with me (we had plans with many friends to meet for dinner) and I told the nurse to speed the blood up so it dripped faster, so I would be discharged by 7 for dinner. My husband picked me up at exactly 7 and I made the dinner! And I had a great "flush" going in my cheeks from the blood!
I just heard that smoking marijuana increases the chance of testicular cancer in men. What? maybe we should have all "extra" body parts removed too. Makes my head spin.
-
Moonflw- Happy Birthday! Sorry you have to spend it this way (((Hugs)))
Lunch today was really good we made some sandwiches on croissants with cream cheese, avacado, lettuce, tomatoes, and jack cheese and a side of fresh fruit, strawberries, black berries, watermelon and kiwi
-
Last Rad yesterday...everything fine, met with oncologist who let me know again what to expect with the burning...ouch! says it will peak in about 7 to 10 days....feeling pretty itchy & sore right now.
When I got home my 89 & 86 yr old neighbours presented me with a huge bouquet of flowers and all of my friends as Ladie's club toasted me with wine....how cool is that? Between that, and the support of all of my Facebook friends & co travellors on here you have made this journey much easier.
Laurie:
Tomato Soup Recipe:
4 cups chopped tomatoes
1 very large onion, saute' with 4 chop. garlic cloves in olive oil
2 cups chicken broth (or veggie)
2 tsps salt
2 tsps sugar
2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar (I used red)
pepper
3 tbsp. fresh basil, parlsy, little oregano (Dried is okay too)
Boil all gently for 20 mins.
Whisk in 2 tbsp flour roux to thicken.
I added about 1 cup of milk.
Puree with stick blender. Do not have to peel the tomatoes..blender pulverized them.
Recipe idea originally from Allrecipes with adaptions from this "Slapdash" Cook.
Yield 4 large bowls
Was delicious, even better the next day hot or cold.
I see no reason why this soup would not freeze, maybe leave out the milk for freezing & add later.
-
Moonflwr - hope you're celebrating big time!
Lacey - I think there is a discussion thread here on BCO about a connection between root canals and breast cancer. I never really checked it out, but here's a link:
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/121/topic/786419?page=1#post_3034537
Isabelle - very sweet of your neighbors and the Ladies Club...flowers and wine, what more could a girl want
-
Isabelle- That is awesome! Its always nice to know how much everyone cares. Thanks so much for the recipe too. If I can get my hands on more tomatoes I am going to makes it next week.
Debbie- I am drooling over your lunch, super yum.
Carrie- I have also heard marijuana prevents metastatic BC.....so many studies....
Ds had soccer tonight so it is a bake and rise pizza and Caesar salad for dinner. Just got home a few minutes ago and have to get them to bed in an hour. This new routine of school and soccer is going to take some getting used to. It is so strange not to have 2 boys with me all the time.
Thanks to those who gave me great feedback on my Making Strides statement....it was kind of hard to put it all out there but felt I had to be honest whether I pissed people off or not
-
Well, thanks everyone for your love and concern. I am back at home, my daughter is on her way home to PA, DH went out to.get Chinese takeout for my birthday dinner. I am.on iv antibiotics for at least a week. I have a very painful drain. But, well, dang it, I AM HOME. that is a good thing. visiting nurse will be giving the antibiotics, unless insurance makes me do it after they train me. Maybe I can ne all thumbs? Or, maybe.I really I AM all thumbs, I mean I trip over my own feet. Really wanna trust me with a Sharp instrument? LOL much love to all
-
So glad you got home in time for birthday dinner moon :-) and hoping you dont have to do your own iv. I think all thumbs might be the way to go!
-
Isabelle, that recipe sounds so good. I would not add the roux though if you freeze. Just heat it up and then add a roux. Much love
-
moonflower~
I like that type of chocolate, LOL
(((EVERYONE)))
Lost another BCO chatter sister, Julie aka cuddles, CANCER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Homemade beef stew for supper w/ herbs from my garden for flavoring.
-
Take out for dinner tonight. Spent most afternoon in the ER. Beyond tickled i wasn't admitted, we will see how the next few days go.
-
Happy birthday Moonflwr. Glad to hear you are home.
Eric -
So why did I not ask you first, Michelle?! You are my font of BC knowledge, and I should have asked you if there is a thread about the root canal connection. I think this
lady I spoke with will be there in a snap...not necessarily me! By the way, we are headed to LaMorra with some friends on Sat. Can't wait!
Moon, yay for getting out for a birthday dinner! Hope you will get some good nursing support for that drain. I would probably need an antiemetic and hypnosis to do it myself.
Good luck with your ins co.!
I am in veggie heaven tonight since DH went to a meeting that required his passing a farmer's market on the way home....he called me and I put in all sorts of orders, so we have the equivalent of what many of you ladies have grown and harvested, or
picked up at a local cooperative and I am hot to cook...thanks for the recipes!! Tomorrow will be tomato creativity in my kitchen...And our smoothies will be assured of really fresh veggies! Next summer I must really get back to my vegetable gardening.
Tonight we had (my garlic ginger soy sauce) marinated chicken thighs, caprese salad, and corn on the cob, and a really odd looking cuke that a NH neighbor gave us from his garden as we left. We felt adventurous eating it, since it resembled a gourd...was pretty tasty..a bit more peppery than a regular cuke.
Have a good evening all..... -
LOL, Lacey! Enjoy dinner at LaMorra, and don't forget to have a cappachino!
DH is gone until Monday so I made a ground beef patty, fresh corn, and some cut up cukes, carrots and red bell pepper. I was not that hungry, though, so I didn't finish a thing. Hmmm...if it happens again I'll have to consider "loss of appetite" as a side effect. That's OK, it will help me lose those pounds I added with Xeloda and make room for the pounds that are likely to show up after two weeks in CA and Hawaii!!!
Deb - beef stew sounds pretty yummy!
And oh, I must say...what an absolutely perfect day we had today, weatherwise. I don't know how it could have been nicer. I wandered to the outlet mall and picked up some good bargains. I think tomorrow will be spent getting together a bag of "never to be worn by me again" clothes for donation. I really need to stick with - one in, one out - and I'm a bit behind!
Kidsandlabs - I'm so glad that whatever drove you to the ER was not so bad that you had to stay!
Moonflwr - glad to see you got to be home for your birthday dinner!
Laurie - before you know it, they'll both be off to outside activities and you'll have 30 minutes to yourself
-
Yay Isabella!
Moon, George asked me to pass this on, as he does not have your email address
So he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, we don't care, do we??! Happy Birthday
Apple, what size pan do you put that overnight bread in? I want to make it for my daughter.
Can never catch up so Howdy everyone!
-
LOL, Thx everyone!
-
Laurie- I don't think you wrote anything that would of upset anyone, i thought it was beautifully written, and scr..ew em if they cant handle the truth. lol
Bedo- Love George clooney I didn't know he wasn't that smart but who cares he's gorgeous!
My dad starts his first chemo infusion tomorrow i hope it goes well for him so worried about him being anemic. when my sister and I were there we bought him all kinds of liquid vitamins and all kinds of stuff to help him through chemo, I guess going through it myself helped me to know what to get him. I have a question though, they didn't prescible the steriod dexamethason or the emend for him, I thought it was standard with chemo does anyone know?
Moon, glad you got to have a birthday dinner and when you feel better you can celebrate some more.
Lacey- Your ginger chicken sounds yummy!
Tonight my DH played golf so me and my DS went to the casino and I won 400.00 On a penny machine love it when that happens.
-
Lke Chabba suggested.. start you starter early. i mixed a couple tsp. of generic flour, a tsp of yearst, a tsp of sugar and a bit of salt with some water and let it sit all nite.. it smells like a good starter.. sour and yeasty. I added 2 tsps. whole wheat flour, a little corn meal, more water to it this morning. sometimes it works (much more often than not)
I feel a little guilty only participating in feel good threads sometimes. I have plenty of bad stuff going on.. chemo, chemo after chemo but am pretty ok. i just am not comfortable compliaining too much.. some people really have a tough rough life.
-
Bedo - generally make loaf size breads.. not in pans. like french baguettes. I've made it in a big round pan.. that was pretty cool.
