The dumbest things people have said to you/about you

Reality: how great that you are near some mountains! Nature can be a powerful energy source from which you can draw strength and refreshment! This is the place to VENT! (I guess rants are okay, too!) ...And know you will be accepted and understood! gentle hugs!
-
Reality LOL u are so funny---maybe u should be known around town anyway u want--don't tell u'r family--u can always hide behind u'r mountains.
And good luck with u'r test.
-
Reality, we all get to vent!
-
My mood and my day greatly improved when my grandchildren (3 of them), arrived at my house on the afternoon school bus. Your supportive responses just topped-off a good day - thanks so much.
-
go play with the grand kids, I believe it has been shown to be an excellent complimentary treatment for all that affects us
enjoy the evening
-
Thanks, proudtospin. Have a good one.
-
Reality--great rants! And if you do have mets to the bone they can be treated with radiation. I've seen some remarkable results with that treatment.
-
My favorites are " is it the bad kind?" as if any cancer is ok?!?!
" maybe you won't have to get a lot of chemo"
" maybe your hair won't fall out". And " you'll look cute bald"
" your boobs will never sag now" -
when ai told my brother I had stage 0 DCIS, he responded....so it is not cancer huh?

Riley I can just imagine what's coming out of your mouth!!!! You tell em!
-
Ran into an acquaintance today. She said in conversation that she doesn't understand why anyone goes through all that reconstructive surgery. Throw a gel pak in your bra, and so what... It struck me so funny, I wanted to laugh and slap her at the same time (and I've not had reconstructive surgery but didn't tell her that!)
-
Yeah. Well until you've been here, you have no idea what you'll do, eh? I used to think if I ever had bc I'd be all "well chop 'em off then." But once I was faced with the choice I was devastated when the surgeon was saying I'd probably need an MX. And so relieved I can't even begin to explain it after my MRI came back clear enough that she was willing to talk LX. I've had several people demand to know why I didn't just do the MX and be done with it... Idiots.
-
Denise, feel free to slap her for me because I probably wouldn't have been able to stop myself from slapping her. I wonder if our diagnosis is a legitimate excuse to get out of a felony charge.
An older gentleman I see through work occasionally saw me for the first time last week since I stopped wearing my fake hair. My new hair is less than an inch long. He took one look at me and said "Whoa, you need to get a wig!" There were people everywhere and could not think of anything to say in response that would not have offended other people, so I just turned around and walked away. That was seriously the rudest thing anyone has ever said to me. I was more in shock that a person could say something so rude, than actually offended.
-
julz, that particular smiley has come in handy sometimes to express myself.
And this one is for you, Denise and christina:
-
Thanks NativeMainer!
-
Oh, Christina! What a complete idiot that guy is. I am so sorry you had to go through that. I know what you mean by not wanting to offend others besides the jerk. I live in a very small town, so many of the residents know I'm going through treatment. Unfortunately, our town is often inundated with rude tourists (don't get me wrong, many of the tourists are lovely and we need them for our town to survive! Many of them envy the people who live where I do as most of us live very simple lives - most of us have to as there are very few jobs here!) Anyway....I was shopping at our only shopping center- (a grocery store, hardware, Dollar Tree and auto parts store- lol). The parking lot was full of people I knew so I did not want to cause a scene when some out-of-town, stuck-up smart-a@@ teenager made a remark about my one-inch hair - I could not hear what he said, but the adult with him responded with, "No, probably not, I just think there is something WRONG with her".
I wish I had spoken up and let them "have it" - I went to my car and cried instead....jerks- not, "Oh, she is probably ill" - nope, there was "something WRONG" with me....I know, there was "something WRONG" with them.
-
....oops, pls. excuse typo in previous post - have not had coffee yet....I meant to type, "The parking lot was full of people"
-
Cindyl - Preadjuvant chemo thankfully shrunk my large tumor enough to allow me the choice of an LX. I agree - cannot believe some of the comments I hear about the LX,:
"Oh good, must be the tumor was not too bad" - I wanted to respond with, "Well actually it was a grade III, I had an incomplete response to chemo, it's tripe negative and very aggressive...."
...and of course, I often hear the "I would just "chop" them both off". "Chop" - I have come to hate that word!
-
yeah, when I had my scare this summer (my mamo came back with new junk which of course needed to be biopsied...) several woman said...I do not know why you did you not JUST have a mamo in the beginning
I am waiting for the day one of them ends up with a scare, one has had a suspicious mamo, biopsy and is on 6 month call back so I really (not to be mean), wonder what she will do when or if she has a bigger problem?
the word JUST is what pisses me off~~, CHOP will do it as well
-
Well, I'll admit that I "just chopped" mine off! hehehehehe 4 biopsies over 25 years was making me tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Glad I did it, too. Enough worrying about mets, never mind local recurrence! (yes, I KNOW it can happen with a DBMX, but odds are lower at local recurrence)
-
oops, guess you figured that I meant Just have a mastectomy not a mamo!
brain farts today
-
I don't think my insurance would of paid for a mastectomy let alone a double unless I was BRCA positive. Since my tumor was supposedly less than a cm....well the views didn't get the whole picture or the darn thing was growing that fast!
Riley....thanks that felt good! Tee he!
Christina......believe me that SLAP has the force of many a SISTERS hands behind it. In fact that saying about being hit into next week....make it the next century! I truly don't know what I would of done if I were in that situation......probably dumb struck I would of cried! But I am finding that I have more of a "_itch" button these days. As my emotions are all over the place! I can't even blame it on anti-Hormonals as i'm not on any! I guess the pleasures all mine. That & the dam cancer made me do it! Think that will fly if a cop were to pull me over????! Hahaha!
Reality it just burns me up what people will say. Yes there are times I have "thought" that someone is going through treatments as that is the nurses aid in me. I've seen first hand as my 2 sons have Crohns. 3 years ago when my now 13 year old was 11 & just DX with Crohns. He was on Steriods for months & gained a large amount of weight. Also getting up to write on the chalkboard in class with a hand tremor due to another med. The comments, giggles & so on. Just tore him up. He's my one that doesn't care what others think! -
Julz I feel so bad for u'r son--so young and if kids say something to him, I know it would make me cry- I can't stand cruel kids --I know that sounds terrible but that's how I feel.
Riley those are hysterical.
Christina what a rude thing to say to u--I would have just said I'm wearing a wig, then walk away. But I am older and I don't care what I say and not as kind as u
-
For me the stupidest comments have been the victim blaming ones that suggest, often directly, that BC is necessarily caused by fat so losing weight will "fix it". I sometimes engage the idiots about my mother's BC after a life time as a slender, athletic person or about my own fitness. I am also really disgusted by the suggestions that losing weight helped the person commenting recover from (name your illness - cardiac troubles, bad cholesterol, hang nails...) - yeah, that's not BC and all my indicators are lovely, thank you.

Vvh-
I had breast reduction 8 years ago I was a DDD now a C. I was told that I greatly reduced my chances of getting BC with the removal of that tissue. Dx in July. There goes that theory. -
Dakota, I had a reduction years ago too and was NEVER told that! What the hell kind of logic is that??? Who told you that, the surgeon???? Unless all your ducts were taken, but that would only resist one kind of breast cancer - DCIS.
-
VVH I know exactly what u mea, it's said by people who have ever been aroud cancer or the real side effects. They really believe some people are askig for it--Well what did u expect? HuH--but even I have my limits on sayig somethig like Oh I hope u experience this someday--and I feel bad that I even thought that to someone I don;t like but I have never said it. cuz I don't believe anyone deserves any of this But it happens and we deal as much and as lon as we can.
Ad theories shmeries I;ve had plenty of theories that everone laughed at (Never bother me) but over the years I seen them happen ad I remind my drs. and they figure I read it somewhere. I still don't mid but that's why I'm so adamant about certain things--I know I don't know anything useful but I do know some things and I speak my mind. My Jello brain still has some cells left LOL
