INTERPRETATION:

The number of new events did not differ significantly between groups, in contrast to previous reports. The increased recurrence in HABITS has been attributed to higher progestogen exposure. As both trials were prematurely closed, data do not allow firm conclusions. Both studies found no increased mortality from breast cancer or other causes from HRT. Current guidelines typically consider HRT contraindicated in breast cancer survivors. Findings suggest that, in some women symptom relief may outweigh the potential risks of HRT.

As usual, we are being misled by the popular press and clinicians who read it. Scientific evidence, such as that found in peer-reviewed journals, is being routinely ignored in BC, especially on estrogen and mammograms.

Thanks for the post. Frankly, I'm not buying what they say about hrt. Hrt has been proven to result in increased numbers of bc. It's also been proven to result in more aggressive types of bc. I can tell you that my mom took hrt for 12 years and got bc 4 years after she ceased taking it because of the big study done in early 2002. Now at 72 she is stage iv. She wishes every day that she never took the stuff. We all must be very cautious when changing our body chemistry. Today they tell us it's ok, tomorrow they tell us it will kill us. So hard for me to believe the medical community which is so heavily influenced by the pharmaceutical community. Thanks again for this information

Studies that I read a few years ago seemed to indicate women who developed breast cancer from HRT had a slower growing, and less "risky" breast cancer.  Of course, many women develop BC from unknown reasons, but these studies seemed to imply that IF the cancer was caused via HRT, then it tended to be the lobular cancer, which was harder to find but less aggressive in these women in the study.

I never took HRT and had lobular cancer, so who knows what that means.....
