Pain in hip/ bum/ groin

What will become apparent from my posts is that I am so anxious. Don't think I have reall come to terms with this yet, even although my diagnosis was 6 months ago. Still in floods of tears even although my 5 cycle of chemo is on Wed.  So, latest is I have achey pain in my bum, hip, groin which radiates up my side and down my leg. I had a bone scan in early Feb when first diagnosed, which was clear. I also had a scan on my ovaries, which showed a benign looking cysts. I am due to get that checked again at start of august. I had a similat pain before in about april time but it went away and I forgot about it, until last week. I have been sore since. I mentioned it to onc last week but they said they didn't think it would be anything. I have been in bed loads- sleep all the time, so I am wodering of lying and sitting about all the time could cause this. What do you guys think. THanks for your help. I am grade 2 btw

Chemo does have us in the bed a lot. I agree with the oncologist, I don't think it is cancer related even though you did not post your staging with your signature. It more sounds like a slipped disc/back problem. If it continues consider going to your family doctor.

Torridon go to the myprofile at the top of the page. You can give as little or as much as you like. I had little there for a very long time.

As far as the fears we all have them especially at the beginning of our journey. So much we take for granted is taken away when you find out you have the big C. My first year I thought about cancer 24-7. It drove my DH nuts. I'm just at the 2 year mark now, and can say I no longer dwell on it as I did then.

I will also tell you talking on the different boards here has been a life line for me. I have lots of friends, but unless they have had BC they can't relate.

Sounds like sciatic nerve pain, which yes, sleeping/laying on your nerve or shifting a disk or continued pressure from sitting CAN cause pain that radiates.

Grade 2 in ILC ...do you know mitosis rate?  (typically slower growing) would not show up as quickly as you indicate pain....and especially if you have already been scanned and had the pain previously.

I would focus on treatment and not worry about this (just my humble opinion).
I had nasty hip pain 5 years post dx and we think it was my bursa (from walking too much).  Since it resolved, I am not going to investigate it.

    Hello Torridon

I'm similar to you - diagnosed six months ago and just gone through round 5 of chemo - although IDC not ILC.

You are doing so well. You've got through five rounds and you're on the home strait.

Now it's time to look look ahead!

    Best wishes

    Alice

I didn't know it was possible to get "bursa" pain from walking too much. I'm also having pain now -- and am very concerned. I have been walking a lot recently.

Torridon, I understand how you feel. I'm also ILC stage IIb ... It's hard not to worry when you get pain.

Your pain sounds like sciatic and you may find you get some relief if you walk.  Walking will make your back muscles stronger and will help relieve pressure.  If you've been lying around a lot, this could be your problem.  Don't be affraid to ask for some anti anxiety or anti depressant meds.  Depression will cause you to sleep alot and not have any motivation to get out of bed.  You've been hit pretty hard with this diagnosis and it's going to take some time to wrap your head around.  Don't hesitate to get some help.

I agree that it sounds like sciatica which is no walk in the park. But I have also had same type of pain with ovarian cyst so it could be that too. Good luck. I hope you get som relief soon.

thanks everyone. These boards are great. I am on anti anxiety meds but told i need to switch these as they will interfere with tamoxifen when i start that.

wallycat- my mitotic rate is 1 - which i understand is the slowest growing. I am in uk so we don't do oncotype dx tests here or Ki tests. I meant to ask my onc about the mitotic rate the other day but forgot as i had so much else to ask.

My whole problem with BC is that one of my really close friends died of BC 10 years ago  when she was 29- diagnosed at 27. I saw her in the hospital 4 hrs before she died. That image has stayed with me all these years. I used to run alot until my diagnosis in Jan. When I was out I used to think about her and how lucky i was to have good health etc etc. My sister also lost her best friend to BC when she was 33. I honestly thought BC had touched my life enough. I could not believe what they were telling me that day. I am only 37 with a 3yr old boy.  I had no lump, just a intermittent electric shock pain, the only reason i went to get checked was becuase of what happened to those i knew. i think i am still in shock and still cannot believe this is happening.

So, still been getting pain and oncologist has ordere MRI. Just found out it is next week and I am terrified. The once said she doesn't think it is cancer related- but that is what breast surgeon said when he examined me at the outset - " all normal tissue" How wrong he was. I feel as i did back in jan when I was diagnosed. I am so worried this has spread. At diagnosis in jan I had  bone scan, abdominal scan, chest scan which were all clear. Since then I have had a CT scan of head m another chest scan and also ovary scan ( combined with CA125 blood test) all of which came back clear. However, I am convincing myself  I have  tumors in soft tissue in hip or indeed in spinal cord giving me sciatic like symptoms. After all, we all know that thing someimes are not "alright" don;t we. Can anyone help me get through to next week? thanks x

Torridon - I  think that your right to have it checked out. I hope that the pains turn out to be from a post chemo pain syndrome.  Ofcourse, I really hope that the pain just goes away and that BC and thoughts of dark places will go away too! (((Hugs)))

I've just gone through something similar with pain in my lower back/hip. I had a bone scan and they didn't see anything there other than the usual degenerating disk and arthritis. I"m hoping you get an all clear as well.

Sharp needle like pain in my rt forearem, headaches, almost feel like a hang over. I know something is NOT RIGHT. I've had MRI of the brain, bone scan that states some changes, they say arthritis, scope my bladder, will wait 6 mos and do a urine test for cancer protein?! ugh- I hear you and my prayers are with you. I know what it's like to know in your GUT something is NOT RIGHT. One test at a time, I guess. Keep us posted please.

    Torridon,

I am having very similar pain.  Pain in my lower back and hips.  I have tried to ignore it because sometimes my right hip hurts but other days my left hip hurts.  Then I also have the electric shock pains that run down my legs.  PLEASE come back and post after your tests are run.  I will be praying that all is well.

I am going in for a PET scan on Friday am. Hopefully this is the diagnostic tool that will detect and validate the issues I am having, and we can address them. Tried of not being ME.

mtks - I hope that you get a definitive, non cancer related diagnosis from your PET!

Torridan - come back and let us know what the results of your MRI showed.

I saw an orthopaedist yesterday for similiar pain deep in my butt and burning pain on the side of my calf that I've had for almost 2 months. He felt certain that it is sciatica and likely from a disc problem. He said it's very common in women 40-60 and occurs with no obvious injury. He did xrays which were fine. On Monday I'm having an MRI to try to define the problem. He said very unlikely to be mets, but ofcourse, that's the one thing that I'd like definitively ruled out!

I also wonder if it has something to do with Arimidex but he didn't think so. I'll get my results a week from Monday and I will keep you posted.

i get my results this week. I am a mess at the moment. All those feelings of fear when first diagnosed have come back. Can't sleep or concentrate. Just walking about thinking, I find out this week if I have terminal cancer or not. Sometime i think there is no way it can be the cancer but of course we all know how awful and subtle this disease can be.Just cancelled lunch with some friends. I can't bear listening to their chat when I am dealing with this - and this now on top of the diagnosis and all the treatment when they have jsut lived their lives cancer free. I am much younger than them and have been denied the chance of another child. jsut feeling so so low. Anti d obviously not working, but then again, what will when you are waiting to find out if you have stage 4 ? x

Hugs to you, Torridon. I've not been through what you're going through yet, so I can only imagine it. It sounds like you are taking care of yourself as best as you can--avoiding those situations that might make things worse at least for the time being. I try to imagine what I would do in your situation--which as a Stage III'er if I have any symptoms, they'll definitely be pursued!--and I think I would try to stay as busy with possible, include as many things that I like to do as I can, and take a lot of time for breathing and meditation. Will be thinking of you and hoping for good news.

Torridon, wishing for the best for you. I recently went through a similar experience and for several weeks I just couldn't think about anything else. Hoping that you get b9 results.

hello everyone. well that was the most awful but also best day of my life. I wasn't imagining pain and numbness. MRI of spine and sacral showed two discs gone wrong , mangling tissue and likely pressing on nerves- hence pain and numbness.  Still await pelvic mri results ( they didn;t have them) but doc says it is highly unlikely they will show cancer after results of my spine mri ( which also shows bowels etc). now referral to neurologist- but MRI showed no cancer. I have never been so scared in my life, That was worse than the diagnosis and mx results. Thanks for all your support x x

Funny when we are happy to find out there is a problem, as long as it is not cancer!! I hope they can do something for your pain.

Glad to hear your results were not cancer.

Yes, the wait is horrific.  You should have valium rx at the ready for those incredibly stressful waits.

I hope they can help you with the pain now that you know it is physical.

    Best to you.
