Well, I'm moving on to Stage IV

After getting what I thought was the all clear from a spinal biopsy in late July, my onc sent me for a PET scan. She didn't feel the results were clear enough. Unfortunately she was right. Ironically, I have mets where I haven't been having any pain issues and none where I did.

I must say, I'm not really surprised. Since I had my recurrence in 2010, I thought this might be coming. I've been avoiding posting because I feel like I'm letting my Stage III sisters down.

Many - if you are reading this, I recently replied to a post of yours where you were concerned that shoulder neck pain was caused by mets. My answer still stands. My pain there was not caused by mets. I have none in those areas.

I haven't been a big poster, but I do keep up on folks. I wish you all the best.

Annie

Annie- I am so sad for you. I don't have any pains anywhere else in my body, but after reading your post I guess it really doesn't matter. Did you have a mastectomy when you were diagnosed in 2004? My initial cancer was found in 2004 also and then reccurrence this yr, although the doc said it has been there for a long time. Probably as far back in 2004. Cancer was found in every bit of tissue when I had my mastectomy. I am still in chemo now until November. Did you do chemo and if so what kind? I am doing CMF and my onco score was only a 6 so I could be doing it for nothing. I wish I could give you a hug. So sorry for your news. Mets are always on my mind.

    Hugs...... Diana

    Annie,

I'm so sorry to hear your news.  It's so hard to come up with the right thing to say.  None of us ever wants to hear that. I hope that they get this under control for you quickly, and that you have the support you need to get through it.

    Hugs

You are not letting anyone down.  We're all in the same room and understand what it is to get good news and bad news.  We're in this room because we care about one another - it's good that you posted.

I can just imagine how rough the road has been for you since your recurrence.  I'm sending a cyber hug to you.  You've already been through a lot.  I hope you have a good support system around you to help you with the everyday stuff and people that you can just "talk it out" with.  You know you have us on the boards.

Annie - I'm so sorry.  We're here for you, regardless of the news you bring.  It sounds like your onc is on top of things.  Do you feel confident in her ability to treat stage IV patients?

I hope she is able to quickly find a treatment to control the mets. Hugs and warm wishes to you.

    Ladies,

Thank you all for your kind words. I've been pretty calm the past week, but your posts brought tears to my eyes.

Diana- I had a lumpectomy/axillary dissection in2004. They were expecting me to be Stage I but I had 11/19 lymph nodes and was IIIC. I did rads, dose dense AC and T (1 Taxol, switched to Taxotere), tamoxifen for 3 years, Aromasin for 2 years. When I had my recurrence in 2010, I had a bi-lateral mx and did Gemzar and Abraxane. I often look back and wonder if I should have gotten a mx after I was staged IIIC.

Ah, Annie, I am so, so sorry to hear this.

Cancer sure is sneaky and awful. I am just saddened when any of us have to face more treatment, you'd think going through it all once should be enough for one lifetime.

I hope your onc has some tricks up her sleeve! Please come and let us know how you are doing!

Annie there are no guarantees for any of us. I sounds corny but we are you. Any female on this earth has this risk. We walk with you emotionally.

    Dear Annie,

I am sad to read the cancer has been on the move.  Do not feel like you are letting us down. Us stage III girls know that we are a step away from IV. Thank goodness we have our group to help us through.

Saying prayers for strength and comfort.

You haven't let us down. We are here to support you. In my community, there is a breast cancer support service that offers support groups. Stage III is actually grouped with stage IV rather than with the earlier stages. I elected to attend the early stage group because I'm not stage IV yet. I recognize that the future is uncertain for all of us with stage III BC. I hope you will continue to post on stage III boards.
