The dreaded J-wire

I'm scheduled for a second lumpectomy due to unclean margins.

The J-wire experience during the first surgery was painful. Other women have not had this experience, but I simply hated it.

Will I have to get the J-wire for the second surgery to clean up the margins...? Appointment isn't until next week so I can't ask the doc til then.

Is that the wire guided lumpectomy wire? Yikes just gave me a flashback!!! I don't know the answer though. Sorry. Good luck. :-)

NOOOOO, you do not need that HORRIBLE j-wire.

One time is all.

That is an awful experience....

I'm glad I'm not the only one. That was absolutely medieval. Why don't they just knock you out for that? It was by far the worst part of the ordeal.

If this is the wire-guided lumpectomy, then you shouldn't need to have it the second time. There is an existing incision to let the bs know where to go. My bs left tiny titanium color-coded clips during the first lump that guided him to each of the involved margins. I hear you - I passed out during the wire placement & they had to finish the process on the biopsy table. Best wishes!!!
