Rib Pain, here I go again
So, 3 months ago I picked up and moved for a new job. I've been much more active, swimming, tennis, walking, etc. About 4 weeks ago I started having some pretty bad rib tenderness and pain. Which I was hoping was just muscle, but it's just getting worse and So of course I'm feeling a little crazy in a new town without my standard health care team.
I found a new ONC, and she wants an immediate bone scan (which is tomorrow). I'm geeking out of my mind. Feeling slightly PTSD-ish. And am just hoping and praying it's not what I fear it is.
I guess I just need a little encouragement. I'm 1 month away from my second anniversary of my dx. The timing of course is not lost on me.
Thanks for your support and any personal knowledge from your story.
Jenn

With all the activity you have been doing and being that you had Axillary lymph node dissection, it is very possible that the pain you are having is a bit of lymphedema. I hope you get a clean scan soon!
-
DivaJ, Just wanted to chime in with support. We were diagnosed really close to each other and have similar diagnoses, so I really feel for you. Hang in there!
-
DivaJ I am sending you some wishes for a clean scan. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Try to get some sleep tonight!

Thanks for the fast responses and support. I have loved this site since my very first test.
How about lymphedema and the belly? I don't have any issues with my arms, but end up daily looking several months pregnant. Maybe I should pull out some research materials.
Thanks again. -
Thank you so much Jean!!!!!
-
Wishing you the best and that the scan is negative. Keep us posted.

Ah yes - bits o pain ruining our sense of peace. DRAT!
So, a while back, my family went out of town, and I rode my bike like a mad woman. I had a great time... but suddenly, I got this rib pain... and it hurt like HELL!
Long story short - I called the ONC a few days later - he got me in THAT DAY - touched me and instantly diagnosed me with costochondritis (inflammation of the interface between cartlidge and rib bones) but ordered up a chest xray just to be sure.... Chest Xray normal. PHEW!!!!!
Bit of rest - rib pain backed off... Rode to much - it came back. Rested again. Gone for good now.
So - hopefully - you'll turn out just like me... your increase in activity has resulted in some inflammation... and all will be good with a little backing off... allowing your body to strengthen and heal... and then right back to it!
Good luck...

Thanks Biker & Bevin for your responses!!
Biker I too was hoping rest would help.
I got my scan done today and immediately after they called for an x-ray of my sternum. Needless to say that shot my curiosity/nervousness through the roof.
Now it's time to play the waiting game. Can you hear the theme song to jeopardy?? -
Diva..I had similar rib pain...had a bone scan...and nothing. I am two years out also and the rib pain has started again...I see my onco next week and will inquire again..something doesn't feel right. Hope it is nothing!

I visited my Lymphedema Specialist last week. As she was doing the massage I noticed rib pain...it really hurt. Fear gripped me. I mentioned it to her. She said very calmly, "Does this have anything to do with the gardening you just did and told me about" I said "WHEW, absolutely!"
I hope your scan is free and clear! Thinking of you with prayers!
-
DivaJ did they give you a timeframe before you get your results?
-
oh man - waiting sucks sucks sucks!!!!!
-
Omg!! I already got the call! The scan & X-ray were clear!! Whew. I can't believe how much I let this torture my poor mind. And for some reason, perhaps fatigue, I don't feel as excited as I thought I would upon hearing the news.
However I'm very thankful for all of the support. You ladies are amazing.
