    People post a "bump" to bring the thread to the top of the active list, that way more people will come across the thread.  I think this thread in particular is a good one to have at the top!

    Heather, I have to say that when I read that your eldest is going to high school, I started to cry.  My babies were 7months and 2 years old and they are now 1 and 3 and I want nothing more than to see my babies to go high school too!

    Thanks for making me stronger now than I was 5 minutes ago.  I've been having a rough 24 hours.

    I love that book. I even went to see Nan Lu's office in Manhattan and thinking about making an appointment with him very soon. I think he makes sense.

    My mother had the first breast cancer at age 33 in 1969 and horrible surgery, she didn't receive chemotherapy, radiotherapy only. She has a second cancer after thirty-three years, and died ten years later of heart disease.

    Hi...started this thread in 2003. Looking for long term survivors. Think my member # was 3500 and now 100 times that here. dont even come to boards except to post updates once a year now. This is my 10th anniversary of diagnosis. I was 38 with two boys age 1 and 3. Worried sick not to hold their hands at first day of school.

     I am now entering near 50 with my oldest going to high school. BS is not a daily event in my life anymore. I forget 90% of time and when I do remember the fear has gone. Living well is the best cure.

    Some positive notes to pass on Laughing

    I was diagnosed in June 2010 and had a mastectomy of 1 breast. I was stage IV. It's been touch and go with my cancer from the outset, but I am a fighter I guess that why I'm still here!!!  and feeling pretty good lately. In 3 years I've been on 3 kinds of Chemo. The last was the best, Halaven. It's derived from a sea urchin. Literally brought me back to a normal existence!

    I am finally doing Radiation of chest tumors (original location) that had come back immediately, that my first Oncologist had never addressed!  New Oncologist now and she's the most caring and knowledgeable!  PLEASE get a second opinion!   I suffered for years with a negligent (you are just a number) kind of Doctor.

    Oh, and I do take my vitamins! Don't forget good nutrition and exercise, which can also be the key to longevity. I suffer from some negative side effects from hormon treatment i.e. arthritis in spine and numbness in one foot, but I'm used to it Wink Exercise helps with it.

    Any how, I am hopeful for the first time in years!

    Glad I found this discussion group.

    I became Stage lV when diagnosed with lung mets on January 21st. Originally dx on March 16, 2010 and ended with with a double mastectomy but the 'dasterdly' BC raised it's head again. I did surgery, chemo and rads and was/am on an antiestrogen medication - was Femara, now Tamoxifen. It's just not fair.

    The travels of all you women through your lives give me hope, inspiration, guidance and advice.

    I am so happy to see this thread alive again. I had come across it and saved it as my favorite when there were no recent updates. And all of a sudden it's alive again! It is inspiring to read your stories and gives us all hope for long years to live.  Good luck everyone!

    Great to see that you're approaching 50...Celebrate the hell out of it, I say.  

    My story was similiar to yours in that I was 38 when I was diagnosed, I was given a one in 10 chance of surviving it.   

    I am pleased to say that, that was in 2000.  If you do the numbers you may notice that  I turned 50 last year.  It was quite a monumental birthday especially given that there was a lot of doubt that I would reach 40.  

    Although I celebrate everyday, my 50th was indeed a very special day for me and I hope yours is for you!

    I was just diagnosed with BC mets to my lungs (zillions of tiny ones) mid-January, so have jumped to a lV. No chemo yet, I was changed from Femara to Tamoxifen. March 16th 2010 I had my lumpectomy followed by a double mastectomy. I was trying to do all I could to avoid any more cancer.

    Well, it got me, and I am mad. Burning mad.

    But, I found this discussion group and you all give me hope that with continued treatment and continuing to take care of myself, I can have many more years with my son and husband.
