Ok so how much should we be taking per day.

What are women generally taking. I do 2000IUs per day but that doesn't sound anywhere near enough.

The current study reported in Endocrinology demonstrated vitamin D3 supplements are as effective as calcitriol.  Dietary vitamin d3 inhibition of tumor growth at 5000 IU/kg was similar to that of administered calcitriol at doses of 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1 ug per mouse, three times a week

Thatgirl, is the 3 times per week relating to how much the mice took, or how often we humans should take it? I've been taking about 3000 IUs daily, 7 days a week.

Oh to be a mouse Tongue out

The goal is to be in the 50 to 80 ng. blood level.  Everyone processes supplements differently (has different genomic pathways, etc.) so we used to tell patients to take a bolus (one time) of upwards of 10,000 IU for a week if they were low, then take 2-5000 IU daily and get tested after a few months.

I take 6000 IU.  When I drop down to 1 or 2000, my vit. d levels drop right away.  I don't like the sun or summer, so am not getting a lot of sun exposure.  These all play a role...summer, winter, location, etc.

Fish also has some D as do eggs.....

The government set the recommended daily allowance at 400 international units  per day. Dr. John Holick, the head of the Vitamin D Council, explains that no  evidence exists to show any adverse affects at daily dosages under 10,000  international units, although he also points to a range of studies that show how  most humans use up around 4,000 international units each day when stores of the  nutrient remain healthy

While experts disagree over the exact demands for each individual, Dr. Mercola  suggests that between 5,000 and 10,000 international units per day of vitamin  D-3 represents a suitable dose for those wanting to avoid seasonal flu. He also  supports the use of sunbeds, offering UV exposure as an alternative method to  bolster vitamin D-3 levels.

D3 isnt one dosage fit all. What are your current levels? Do you drink soda? coffee? Do you get any sun? Are you on meds that can prevent absorption? Do you have digestive issues that can prevent absorption? Once you find out your levels and answer those questions decide with your Dr. or you decide what amount you want to take.

My Dr. wants my levels int he 50's. If I take anything less than 5000iu per day my levels drop. I was on the 50000iu per week until my levels got to 40.

Wow. That is interesting. I don't know if there is any correlation at all, but I began taking 5000 IU daily about four weeks ago. There is a suspicious spot on my 10th rib on the right side (non-cancer side) that the doctors are watching. I've never really had any pain from it, just some tenderness, up until I began taking the D3. A couple of weeks after I started, I began to have pain in that area. It lasted a week or so, then has gradually begun to subside. I have heard of tumor flare with chemo, hormonals, etc. Do you think the same principle might apply with D3? Just a thought. Also, since I haven't discussed this with my doctors (they are anti-everything except standard treatment guidelines), are there any adverse interactions I should be aware of?

Only wild caught fish have Vitamin D. Eggs will have them only if it's been added and it should say it on the carton. The amount of eggs you would have to eat to get a worthy dose would give you a heart attack.

    Yorkie,

Yes. The mice took 15,000iu per week. It looks like your take 21,000iu per week. If your levels are where you and your Dr. want them, you should be ok.
