Newbie to forum- seeking support from the pros :)
Hello ladies, I'm a newbie to this forum. Im not diagnosed with BC but I'm going through the testing as we speak to see what's going on with my body. I'm a 28 yr. old married woman, and my husband and I have been married for three years and do not have any children but plan on it someday. These past 6/7 months I started experiencing a yellow nipple discharge from my left breast only. When I noticed it, I thought maybe I was lactating and was pregnant so I went to the gyno and it was negative. Gyno told me nipple discharge was common and it should go away but when I saw blood then go see a breast surgeon. Months passed and I continued to have the discharge on a daily basis. Around May 2012, I woke up and my shirt had drops of blood on it and I immediately got nervous. So I called the surgeon my gyno recommended, and she sent me for an ultrasound....it came back negative. She told me to wait a few months and see what happens but I got upset and insisted I get screened again, so she sent me for a mammogram...again, negative. However, ive continued to bleed from my nipple and I insisted to the doctor there had to be something she could do because I was very frustrated and I needed an answer to what was causing this..she told me the next thing to do would be an MRI but that it was too expensive and wouldn't recommend it unless it was absolutely necessary and she didn't feel it was. But again, I insisted because I knew what I was going through was not normal for me no matter how "normal" the doctor said it was. Last Monday, I had my MRI and I was supposed to come in to see the doctor tomorrow for my results. However, this past Wednesday I got a call from the doctor's office and they told me the doctor reviewed my MRI and found an abnormality- therefore they want to schedule an MRI guided biopsy, send it to pathology and then the doctor will see me with results....so bascially, the MRI I insisted on, detected something. So now here I am, waiting on my biopsy which will take place this Thursday. I wanted to reach out to you ladies to get your thoughts, have u ever had an MRI guided biopsy? What should I expect? Is it painful? I have to admit that I'm not scared, just anxious to get this over with!

Good for you!!! Dang....normal??? I'd go crazy if I was bleeding from ANYWHERE for an unknown reason!
Biopsies are pretty painless as far as the procedure...very tender afterward. You might want a few days off of work and anything that would affect the area. I was able to watch my procedure...yeah, wouldn't recommend that. Its just weird.
Best of luck to You!! I hope its not "the C"....and that you are able to fix whatever is going on. -
Hello Lgarabito, and welcome to BCO.
Until more members post to tell you about their experiences, you'll find more information about what to expect from the different types of biopsy in this article from the main Breastcancer.org site.

Lgarabito,
Good for you for insisting that you knew something was wrong! I'm praying for you that it's nothing serious. I've been having a lot of breast issues lately and yesterday, my nipple discharge changed from clear to bloody from one duct and another duct has a dark blue green discharge. Of course, I've been goggling like a mad woman since. What I have found is that a papiloma can cause a bloody discharge. I haven't had a biopsy so I can't comment on that. I have several new friends on here who are also having biopsies this week so I will add you to my list for prayers and check in on you to see how things went.
I am glad you've gotten the ball rolling and will know very soon what you are dealing with.
Love and hugs, -
Thank you so much for the prayers...it's good to know we all have support on here
it makes me feel better. I too have been googling like a mad woman, lol! but at the end of the day, i feel its best to not stress out because i dont think stressing out will get me anywhere. So im trying to stay calm and hope for the best...its out of my control at this point, so i'd rather stay positive and motivated. Im sorry to hear you are having similar concerns, are you seeing a doctor for your symptoms? if so, will you be doing any tests soon? Im praying for you as well...and thanks for checking in, it really does help to talk to others who are going through similar things
All the best,
Lisa xoxo

Lisa,
Yes, I had a mammo/us last week or rather Friday before last. I received a BIRADS - 0, indicating needs further eval/testing. I've been on the "6 month watch and wait cycle" for a couple years for some suspicious areas. But this last mammo came back clear. The ultrasound could not find the areas they had been watching before but picked up another area of concern as well as a swollen lymph node in my armpit where I was having pain. I spoke with my doctor this past Friday afternoon/evening. He said he would refer me to a general surgeon. Well, this morning I got the call from the surgeon's office. They are working me in tomorrow morning at 10:30 and will do a biopsy in the office if they can feel the lump and lymph node. If not, then it will be scheduled at a local hospital. WOW! I have to say that I am blown away by how quickly they are getting me in. I was prepared to argue and fight for an appointment but I didn't have to. Kind of takes my breath away. Don't know what to do with myself now. I'm just in shock. I will keep you posted if I can remember to do so. My memory has been crappy for a while now. I'm only 46 but feel like I'm about 190. I always say that it feels like early altzheimers but maybe it's just stress.
I will continue to pray for you.

Just had my biopsy today and I'm doing ok. The procedure though was very painful because the area they were trying to biopsy was right behind the nipple, so needless to say I cried like a baby when they injected me with the anesthesia. But once it set in, I didn't feel much after that. They wrapped me up and told me to put ice on it for the next 48 hrs. I'm just worried tomorrow may be very sore...will get my pathology results on Monday, unless of course hurricane Isaac doesn't cancel my appt ( I live in Miami, so the media as usual is being over dramatic about this storm). Will keep u posted on my results! I'm praying it's benign!

I held a crying baby for about 20 minutes a few weeks ago. He kept turning his head toward my breast and opening his mouth. I felt my breasts cramp like my milk was coming in, although I am 63 years old. The next night, I had some discharge from my right breast. It was clear and a little bloody. I had about six drops over the next two-three days, and a two degree temperature. I went straight to the doctor, had a mammogram and an ultrasound, which came back perfectly normal. But now they have scheduled me for a surgical consult!!! I don't know what to think. I have googled it all, and they say if it has blood in it it is never good. Please, if you have something to say about this, or if you don't, just say something. I feel so alone and isolated. Thanks to those who respond, in advance.

blood could mean a papilloma. Benign issue but still will need to be removed. I had a bloody nipple too but I knew it wasn't a papilloma.
Make sure they have an answer to the bloody nipple. Don't let them say "we'll wait 6 months."
-
Sdturner, i don't know anything really. But I too have bloody discharge and lots of other crazy stuff with a lump found on ultrasound. The surgeon did nothing but said wait 6 months. He did say he could try to aspirate the lump but refused to send it for pathology because it's usually b9 anyway. Ugh! So anyway, back to you, be thankful that the doctors are moving quickly to figure out the problem.

Sorry i dont have amything to add to your specific situation but just wanted to say i hear you and sending positive thoughts your way.
-
did you ever figure out what this was
-
Problem91, Lisa only posted 3 times in 2012 and all her posts are here.Lets hope her findings were benign and she has simply gone on with her life

It seems some people experience pain and other's do not. I think it probably depends on the size of the breasts and the location of the area to be biopsied. I had a biopsy on my right lymph node area and my right breast. the biopsy on the ymph node area was not too bad but the breast biopsy was very uncomfortable and I would not wish to ever go through that again! However, it is necessary and something you can get through!
