My Twin Sister

Hey Everybody!  It's been a long time since I started a thread.  With Dave's passing last year, I've just been trying to be the best mom and person that I can be, and am slowly rebuilding with the kids.  About a week and a half ago, my twin sister (we are fraternal) called me to talk about some breast issues she was having.  She was having bloody discharge from her nipple, and thought she had some kind of infection because that area was warm to the touch (scary, YES!).  What she didn't tell me was that she also has a lump in the vicinity of that nipple (Even scarier).  She just had a mammogram and ultrasound a few days ago, and she is seeing a breast surgeon on Monday.   We all know how these things can go, and hopefully, hers is a case of a bad infection.  She does have a history of fibrocystic disease.  You can imagine how I'm feeling about this.  I am sick to my stomache, and I can't imagine my sister going through what I've gone through.  I am trying to just wait until we know what we are dealing with here.  After I was diagnosed, I knew that she was getting mammos every six months, but I didn't know that she stopped doing that sometime in 2009.   Her last one was that year.  I'll keep you all posted.  Hopefully, the news is good.  Please keep us in your prayers.  If you are a Facebook friend, please don't post anything there, as we have an extended family and I'd like to protect our privacy.

She lives six hours away from me, but I can't even consider moving to be close to her.  I know it may sound selfish, but my family is very dysfunctional and needy, and it's just the last thing the kids and I need.  I'll just have to do the best I can to give her support from here and go see her when I can.  Does that sound terrible?

I hope it doesn't come to that.

Love
Bobbie

    Hello Bobbie,

I am praying for your sister and your whole family. You have already all been through too much. Hopefully, it's just an infection or something else b9. I do understand the worry. I've had an array of breast symptoms and problems of late and seem to be finding new symptoms every few days. Last night, I began having the bloody discharge from the nipple as well. Then today, found more swollen lymph nodes. I had an ache and irritation at the crease of my inner elbow, reached over to rub it and found a hard ball. Scared me. But, it's in the arm opposite to to breast that's giving me hell. Funny thing is I also have a freakishly swollen lymph node behind the right ear. That's also on the side opposite of the opposite side from the breast with all the problems.

Anyway, I will keep you all in my prayers. Let us know how everything turns out.

    Love and hugs,

    Nikki,

I'm sorry for all that you are going through.  I hope that you find out some good news and that you can take care of what's going on.  Please let me know how you are doing, and I'll keep you posted on my sis.

    Hugs

    Bobbie

I'll be praying for her Bobbie and I'm sorry your family is having to deal with even the possibility.  You and those boys have been through enough and no it doesn't sound selfish at all, I'm in the same boat (family) and totally get what you're talking about.  Those boys are a main concern and they need a healthy, happy mom...do what you can from where you are and feel no guilt.

Thinking of you, Bobbie - and your family.

Hope that all is well (who would be grateful for an infection but us!?).

Bobbie, sorry to hear this. I hope it's something that can be cleared up with antibiotics.

Bobbie, I'm sorry to hear your sister is going through this. My sister (she's older than me so I always and forever will call her my "big sister") was dx with DCIS this past spring. Her dx in some ways was more painful than my own. I don't want her to have to go through this! But she did, as I did. I hope your sister won't have to. But I do understand how difficult this is for you.

You're not selfish not to move closer to her. You have to take care of your kids. You can give your sister emotional support even from a distance. My sisters live in Los Angeles, I live in Israel, and I had (and still have) their unlimited support. If your sister is single, I'm sure you'll do what you can to get her practical support if she needs it.

    All the best.

    Leah

Thanks everyone! She's in a lot of pain, and will be having surgery this Friday. She's also got terrible hip pain and shoulder pain, which I sure hope isn't related to this. We know way too much, and sometimes all it does is scare you. I'm sure I won't know anything for at least a week, so I'll keep you all posted.

    Peace,

    Bobbie

Wow, Carol and Guddtyup, I did not know that!  I have twin brothers too.  I always wondered what the odds of that were.  They are fraternal too.

Thanks for the support, everybody.  I'll let you know something when I know.

Thank you, Susan!  She had her surgery yesterday, and is in some pain (as we all know about that) this morning.  I am increasingly hopeful that this is a nasty infection and that all the precautions and worries are due to my history.

And the result is NEGATIVE!  Wow, this is another example of looks like cancer, and sounds like cancer, but isn't.  My sister is SOOO relieved, as am I, and I just want to say thank you to all of you lovely ladies for thinking and praying for her.  Apparently, it was a very nasty infection and cyst.  Thank God!  Jean, I will pray for good news for your sister, too!

    Love you all,

    Bobbie

Bobbie, congratulations to your sister and you! It seems a little strange to be glad about a nasty infection and cyst, but it's such great news compared to your fears. Smile

Jean, we're sending good thoughts to your sister too. Please do come back and let us know the results!

Bobbie, YEAH! This is where BC cracks me up, in the sense that it makes us celebrate nasty infections and cysts.

Thank you, Mods, for your wonderful note, and thank you to my BC sisters.  We are so lucky to have each other!  I have to tell you all that the saddest (yet funniest) thing that happened was that I called to find out how she was after she went through the surgery, and my brother in law replied, "She's doing great.  She's outside having a cigarette...".  Gosh, I love her so much, yet I have to stop myself from wanting to strangle her!  That's what love is all about...
