Oncology Radiation Visit

Options

My lumpectomy was performed in 2010 and was very successful with no issues including while undergoing radiation treatment; in fact my oncology team was amazed that I had no indication I was undergoing radiation treatment.  My oncolocy doctor indicated he should see me at least annualy.  My annual visit is due now and I really don't see a need to see him since I have no issues and all he will do is look at my breast and ask if I have any issues.  Does anyone NOT see their oncology radi dr on a regular basis?  Thanks and best of luck to everyone underoing treatment.

I saw my RO every few months until this month which marks the one year anniversary of the completion of my rads. At the last appointment, the RO gave me the option of continuing or ending the visits with him. Since I still see my MO, BS, and PCP, we both decided I could be discharged from rads follow-ups.

I am seeing both my BS and RO (alternating every 3 months for the first year and then 6 months after that for "a while").  Since I don't have a MO (DCIS so no chemo and ER-negative so no hormonals) my RO said primary follow-up (for life) would be with her when the BS discharges me.  If you are seeing a MO then seeing both, along with BS, is sufficient.  The main thing is that you need to have a breast exam from a physician at least yearly (maybe even bi-yearly) for life ... along with annual diagnostic mammogram when surgery was a lumpectomy.

    Good luck back at you!
