recurrent? breast cancer after 24 years
Here we go again! lump at the scar site. My internist says get a biopsy immediately. the lump is hard and large! Just didn't realize it was there until I saw the scar indent. I'm sure it's cancer again. I'm 70 now and cancer free on the left breast for 24 years and on the right for 13 years. No lymph involvement either time. So am now waiting for the usual round of mammogram, biopsy, surgery etc. I sympathize with everyone's high anxiety! My dear husband and I sleep a few hours at a time each night waiting for the results of my testing. I tend to roam around the house at 4 am. I have been so lucky for so many years tho. I vow to live for the moment when I can and appreciate all the lovely people around me.
I'm sure it wil be a mastectomy and I will ask to have both breasts removed.
All for now. Hope to have responses for those in the same predicament.

I'm sure others with the same experience will come along shortly. I just wanted to respond with a hug and encouragement. XO

How kind. I'm hanging in there. The waiting is the worst and all the memories that come flooding back. I need some instruction on meditating I think.

Well, I hope you are wrong, and it isn't cancer. <<<hug>>>
But failing that, well i hope your treatments go smoothly.

Lylie - I am sorry you are finding yourself in this situation and I hope that your biopsy turns out to be benign. But I CAN understand your anxiety as I was recently diagnosed with a second primary tumor 19 years after my first one. Had a lumpectomy the first time, followed by rads and chemo; this time I had a bilateral mx and chemo. And.....I'm doing great!
But I hope all the worrying is for nothing. Let me know how I can help further....

I know, the waiting is the worst. The anxiety can be awful. I never took any medication before, but as soon as I was diagnosed, my dr gave me a prescription for Ativan. It's not strong, just takes the edge off.
We're all here to wait with you.... -
HI Joan
I just had recurrence also Triple negative like yours same breast. 6/18 I am now on C/T.
What chemo did you have first time I had CMF 12 yrs ago.
I was crying for weeks after I heard the news. Years ago no one spoke of this triple negative now its become this big thing. What is your take on it?
How many rounds of C/T?

Hi Netty: I also had CMF 19 years ago. This time I had T/C. I had 6 treatments. I was originally scheduled for 4, considering that my tumor was small and there was no LVI. But they couldn't find a sentinel node during my BMX because I had had 10 removed the first time, so my nodal status was uncertain (although both the BS and the Onc were calling me node negative). So I asked to be treated as though I were node positive, just for a little extra measure of security.
I haven't particularly worried about my triple negative status. First of all, you don't WANT to be Her2 positive - that's a very aggressive tumor. And chemo is very effective against the ER and PR-parts.
I wish you all the best! Let me know if I can help you further.

I had a cancer in my left breast 28 years after the one in the right breast. I was told it was a new primary, not a recurrence.
Had mastectomy and reconstruction the first time. Lumpectomy the second time. No radiation as I'm 76 and have quit Aromasin due to severe side effects and very bad osteoporosis.
You just never know do you? I really never thought I would get cancer the second time
Hope your lump is benign!

Hope everything is ok! Hugs
