Hi all.  Rita, I have an arimidex question for you.  I sent you a private message (like anything is private any more).

Lago, thanks for the suggestions.  My friends had already shown up at Tiffins so that is where we went.

Taking my youngest to DC to start her college career on Friday.  My last little birdie to leave the nest.  I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad about it.  Anyway ... does anyone have recommendations for a farewell-until-break restaurant for the two of us?  I've only been to DC with the whole family and could never afford "nicer" restaurants with the whole crew in tow.  She tolerates chicken, despises fish, and adores beef.

Thanks for posting the link to the report on ending breast cancer by 2020. There was a lot of great information/ideas/directions in there. I was especially interested in some of the ideas for new directions to take in research, like creating the effects of pregnancy in those who have not had a pregnancy. Some pretty cool ideas in there....

Camille my derm told me that yeast (fungus) can make them lift. I forgot what she initially wanted me to try but my nail bed culture actually didn't indicate any yeast. My derm wanted me to try this stuff that the insurance wont cover because no yeast was indicated. It was $85 a month! The pharmacists suggested urea that does basically the same thing but is only $23 a month. It seems to be working for me. Granted the nails are not "glueing" back down but they are flattening out. I've been on it for about 6 weeks. I was told to stay on it for 1 year (fingers only). We haven't addressed the toes.

I'm very late tonight, but better late than never.  I hope you all had a fantastic day.  I'm once again starting to look forward to the week-end though I'm only going to the balloon fest on Saturday and I think that will be enough for me.

See you all again in the morning.

    Hugs, Jackie

camillegal are you talking about the stuff that is OTC. Mine Urea is prescription. I don't think the OTC stuff is strong enough. I tried the OTC on my toenails and it didn't do anything.

Camillegal ask your onc if you can take Acetyl-L-Carnitine (500mg). It's a memory booster. I took it to prevent nueropathy during chemo. I still take it because I truly feel this has helped my memory (except for names).

Hope you are all ok this a.m.  We had quite the thunderstorms going on late afternoon to mid-evening yesterday.  Got a pretty good soak, but after a drought like we have had......probably too much ran off and didn't soak in.  Our lake will have a lot more in it.  Seemed like a good portion of Illinois was going to get it including Chicago area.

Hope you all have a good day.  We have a lot of yard clean-up --- sticks and twigs -- ah the week-end ( much, much cooler ) is coming for that.  Today is first day of the Fest.  I love the fireworks they do and they will do them now probably after that great rain.  See you all late tonight.  I'm working late.

    Hugs, Jackie

What a gorgeous day.  Got an early start and went to my daughter's to put together an IKEA wardrobe.  I believe I've assembled so much Swedish furniture I should have a master's degree in it by now.

Saw (and heard) some of the air and water show-will be attending a party to see it up close tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well and able to enjoy this incredible day.

Hey all,  We got back late Thursday night from my trip to DC.  I didn't have much luck at the conference for interviews but did quite a bit of networking.  I did get an offer from a company in Kentucky from my interview that I had the previous week but had to write a negotiation letter to them.  The first offer was extremely low and then they called Thursday on my way back from DC with another offer that is better but still a bit low.  I have an interview on Monday with another lab in Crystal Lake that offered for me about 18 months ago.  If she doesn't give me a good vibe, I might just need to accept the KY offer and keep looking too.

My exchange surgery is August 22!  I'm excited and just hoping for no complications.  Things are moving along so quick on the job front and I haven't told any potential employers about the BC because I was afraid it would sway their decision.  So many people hear the "C" word and think the worst.  I didn't feel now was the time to educate them, lol.

Lynn, We went to a restaurant called "Bistro Bistro" on NW Connecticut avenue that was really good.  I'm sure there are tons of restaurants that are just as good but thought I would share with you.  Good luck to your daughter!

It was a beautiful day today.  We did some yardwork and I barely got warm!  The grasses were quite bountiful in our backyard gardens, lol.  I actually wore a hole in my garden gloves while I was working.  I'm glad some of you got much needed rain!  I drove through southeastern illinois on my way back from Kentucky a few weeks ago and it is quite apparent that there is a drought.  I was surprised how within a short distance, some areas were very brown and others green.  Almost like the rain was avoiding certain areas!

Lynn...welcome back.  Sounds like you did get some movement on things ( possibilities ) at your conference.  Always a good thing.  I'll be thinking about you on the 22 nd.  Easy to remember as I will be going to Marion V.A. for a hearing test.  Hoping they have a solution that I can be happy with for what I think is slight hearing loss in my right ear.  Like a lot of ( ssssh, seniors )  I notice some difficulty if people change the tone level when they are speaking and either turn away or put their head down.

Went yesterday morning to our balloon fest.  Didn't go opening night as I did not want to go alone....but I could have.  Denny had to work.  Anyway we wanted to go see the craft exhibits and see if there was anything new or noteworthy.  Most was the same although I did come home with 3 pieces of pottery.  I also adore the odors wafting on every breeze and there were plenty of cool breezes which made it all quite pleasant.

I hope you all had a great day yesterday and that today will be just as fine.

    Hugs, Jackie

Jackie, sounds like you had a wonderful time!

Valerie:  Is the job in KY or is the co. just headquartered in Ky, i.e., would you have to move?

KJ, The job is in Madisonville KY......about 5.5 hours from where I currently live.  I will have to move there but we probably will leave my husband in place in Elk Grove Village until I'm sure about the move.  If I take it, I will probably keep looking for something else.  I really don't know if my husband could find anything there and he needs to work at least 5 more years before he is eligible to retire. I will probably come home often but not every weekend.  That is a lot of driving!  Let's hope that the lunch meeting that I have with a company in Crystal Lake IL goes well tomorrow and I don't have to move.  It all hinges on whether she can find a place for me and if she can offer me a fair salary.

If I take the position in Madisonville, I will have to find a reason to drive through Peoria and meet you!  Did you go to the wedding in Homewood yet (I think I remember that was you, lol).

Went golfing with our group this afternoon.  There were 4 foursomes and we went out to dinner afterwards.  I can't believe that I will probably be putting my clubs away for the season.  I probably won't be allowed to swing a club for at least a month after this exchange surgery.....oh well.....next year is just around the corner!  It was a beautiful day here and we walked the course.  It was just nice to be out enjoying the sunshine and cooler temperatures and hitting that silly little ball forward a bit at a time.......

Valerie-good luck with your lunch meeting, I hope something good comes from it.  I will be thinking of you on Wednesday and praying the exchange goes well with no complicaitons.

Another incredible day today.  I attended an air and water show party and enjoyed basking in the sunshine (wearing sunscreen of course).  The party was in the building Vince Vaughn lives in, but unfortunately, no sign of him.

First day of school for my son tomorrow-yikes, where did the summer go?

Valerie:  It was a beautiful day today, wasn't it?  The wedding is on September 15 at Ravisloe CC.  I have lost all but a few of my eyebrows this weekend.  Hoping the new ones will "pop" ip soon.  My DH went to grad school in Ky. and the co. I work for is headquartered in KY, but I work here in PIA. Did the commuter thing when we first got married.  The drive was almost 7 hours.  Not fun.  I would LOVE to meet you, but I hope you get to stay in Illinois.

KJ you are beautiful even without eyebrows!  Ravisloe is just down the road from my house in Homewood.  It will be a beautiful wedding and I really hope you have a great time and enjoy the fact that you are there and you have made it this far through this unexpected journey.

My biggest adjustment was the lopsidedness of my chest, lol.  I now have the prothesis that makes me less self conscious.  I realize that I've been very lucky in that I've kept my hair and not gone through as much as others.  The stories here on the site have brought many tears to my eyes and I'm praying for each and every one of us!

Did you get a great dress for the wedding?  I can just picture you in a beautiful dress with a beautiful scarf wrapped around your face to dress it up a bit!   Hope you get some pictures so that you can post them here.

While I was at the conference in DC, I learned more about my friend and mentor that managed to survive a short bout with BC but not the pancreatic cancer that rose its ugly head within months of her completing the radiation treatment for BC.  She was so full of life and such a beautiful person.  I'm still in shock that she passed as quick as she did.  Makes me even more thankful for early detection and treatment by the wonderful doctors that have chosen to help us out by making this area their direction.

Did anyone hear that they have linked a longer index finger to women having increased risk of BC?  I read it yesterday and sure enough, my index fingers are about one joint longer than my ring finger.  It is believed to be linked to estrogen exposure during fetal development......and my cancer was hormone +........interesting development.

Your inner voice always knows what to do,
but it is a quiet voice.
You can only hear the whisperings of your inner voice -
your inner compass - when you turn down the volume
of your fears, your regrets, your resentments,
    and the fear-based advice
your neighbors are so willing to give you.
