Chlorella
I have been reading a lot about chlorella and I think I am going to start taking it this week. I was just wondering if anyone else is taking it and what you think about it. Do you notice a difference by taking it?

((((((((((((YAY)))))))))))) .... A thread about one of my favourite superfoods!!!!
Hiya Jennn1975!
Good quality microalgae will give you quite an energy boost! Not to mention what great detoxifiers they are...especially after the treatments we've been through.
I gave up meat and replaced my protein with the oldest food source in the world ...Spirulina - My protein levels are...Tot. Protein: units 79 ---g/L---- Ref, Range (65-85).... that's pretty good considering I hardly ever eat meat, except for special occasions. It has an amazing 300% more protein than fish, meat or poultry, with no cholesterol and a protein content of 60-70%. It's even more potent, fermented.(which I also take) I suffered from anaemia after l gave birth to my son, and discovered this wonderful gift of nature -micro-algae's are a must in ones quest for optimum health. I learned this after many years of painstaking research trying to cure my son's autoimmune disorder, with much success. Billions of years of DNA encoded in these mighty forces of nature.
A page out of my holistic bible...
Here's just a portion of what these babies have to offer...

Spirulina has often been called "food for the soul." Spirulina contains GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) that can be found in a mother's milk. For me, and millions worldwide this immortal life form is at the forefront of nutrition. My goodness, as l mentioned before the DNA encoded in these superfoods is mind-boggling. I personally prefer to take my algaes, with bacteria in powder form, with water for that instant hit. Micro algae's are the oldest "whole food" source, absolutely chocker block with nutrients. "Blue-green algae is often the first life form to colonize a desolate land area - in deserts, in volcanic rocks, on coral reefs, and even in polar regions, working with lichen to fix nitrogen to the rocks to begin life in the tundra."
"SPIRULINA ... contains 65-75% easily digested complete protein, the highest amount of any food. This is 3 to 4 times more than the poorly assimilable protein found in fish, chicken and beef. It has 18 amino acids including the essential 8, over 2000 enzymes, phytonutrients, and a vast array of minerals including zinc, iron, calcium, selenium, manganese, chromium, and iodine. It's the richest known plant in vitamin B12, one of the top sources for the full spectrum of carotenoids, and is abundant in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, D, E, K, chlorophyll, and RNA/DNA. It is the best natural source for the potent antioxidant evercetin."
"CHLORELLA... contains an impressive 60+% bioavailable protein; providing 19 amino acids including all essential aminos in excellent proportions. It is high in enzymes, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5(niacin), B6, B12, C, E, K, an array of carotenes, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, iodine and exceptionally high in iron. Richest of all the edible algaes in essential fatty acids. It has the highest levels of chlorophyll of any natural source, up to 5 to 10 times that of Spirulina! Chlorophyll kills harmful bacteria, is nearly identical to hemoglobin in blood and is a remarkable agent for blood building, cleansing and tissue repair. Chlorella is by far the richest source for RNA/DNA, which when taken in foods provides material for cellular repair and revitalization, contributing to rapid healing, greater energy and longer life span. The nucleus of the chlorella cell contains a unique nucleotide-peptide complex known as Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) which actually promotes cell growth in the body, stimulating tissue repair and healing to an extent not previously found in any other food, it even increases growth rates in children!"
NASA's plans in terraforming Mars include a self-sufficient system to grow enough algae and plant crops to permanently support human life.
"Understanding the role of microscopic algae, "the foundation of life", can help us develop restorative models of personal and planetary health."
Microalgaes are my all time favourite superfoods. This is one thing I would NEVER EVER give up in my quest for optimum health. It's worked wonders for my family and friends.

Algae's and good bacteria are mighty forces for our immune system. And one of our best defences against cancer is to keep a strong immune system.
Let's not forget that we have been BOMBARDED with "IONIZED RADIATION." (That's the same type of radiation used in the Hiroshima bombings. Right? Since the bombings, Japanese scientists studied Chlorella as a biological response modifier, by boosting the immune response.
I could bloomin go on all day about my love for microalgae...This stuff absolutely blows me away, and l'm surprised it's seldom talked about in these parts.
Do your research and buy quality. I was buying a product from New Zealand...when I realized that New Zealand is toooo cold to grow these products. Upon further research I discovered that they were sourcing there spirulina/chlorella from 35 unknown sources!!! I really like the Hawaiian spirulina, an Australian spirulina grown in the Northern Territory, and fermented spirulina by Body Ecology, and I take sun chlorella.
This is a good video on Hawaiian spirulina...

I am now researching Astaxanthin...

Great thread topic, Jenn, and great info, Victoria! I had been taking spirulina and chlorella for a while and need to start it again. I used to throw some into a green smoothie (to make it REALLY green, heh heh).
Victoria, do you refrigerate yours or does it stay at full potency stored in a pantry? Wihere do you buy yours?
-
Hi Crunchy! I keep it stored below 30, in a dry place out of direct sunlight, as it suggests, but I keep it refrigerated in the very hot summer months. We go through these superfoods pretty quickly in my household...my kids have it first thing in the morning, and I also pack them some for school to have with their lunch, and an extra bottle of water...so they don't get the fuzzies in the afternoon. I purchase them from various health food stores...but sometimes I have to order them in because spirulina/chlorella are quite popular over here. The fermented spirulina I order online, from the wonderful TVSN health department.

Thanks for the input. I started taking both on Saturday. To be blunt everything I read said that you will know that you are taking enough when you have green poop. Yesterday was green and today was very green so I guess I am there! I am taking 3 g of each.
