Interesting information for Alternative treatment advocates

If you have such issues with alt. tx, (which was transparent) why do you persist in posting on the ALT TX forum? This is nasty!
There should be some measure of respect. I would never go onto the stage IV forum and presume to know what those sisters ought to do. Why are ladies with BC on support forums to haggle and be harrassed by other women with BC? It is ridiculous at best, and pitiful at worst.
Please stop doing thi,. This is an ALT MED. forum and you came on soley with the purpose of ragging on ALT MED. This is stirring the trouble pot.
Don't we all have enough troubles ? Pls think about this !
-
I agree that if one is not in favor of alt tx it does seem pointless to post here. If it's of no interest to you, leave it alone. Some state that they are trying to protect newcomers from being led a stray. IMHO, I believe that all newbies are adults (I hope) and should be allowed to read, research and make up their own minds. If they choose to do something different than I've done, that is their choice and I respect that. When it comes to medical decisions, to each his own, even if I believe it might be harmful.
Purple, as to the user name issue, I can't speak to someone else's motives. I actually did a similar thing on another thread. My motive was simply to acknowledge that I recognized who the poster was with respect to her previous screen name. I will, going forward call her by her current name as she prefers. No ill intent, just a way to say that I recognized her. Caryn -
Purple - there is nothing nasty about caring about newly diagnosed women who might be lead astray by what they read here. I recall Himalaya who read about the black salve and wanted to try it to avoid surgery - now that was a very scary thing to read. I'm sure you would not support her using such stuff to remove a tumour that is under the skin.
Ruby - I am not one who had no traditional treatment - I had the lot and don't regret it for one minute.
BTW - I'm not stalking anyone, I was aware of Ruby changing her name at the time she did it and still think of her in my mind as Maud - that's all.
-
i have spent years involved int he alternative media.. and this study feels like pure fear tactics to me..
-
Most of the people you hang around with SusieQ regularly change their name and nobody is calling them out on it. Actually, we couldn't care less. I think you persist (stalk) because you want to make sure your 'friends' read all about your devoted 'contributions' to this forum. One of them has already thanked you, make sure you score that one. It's all a big muscle munsh & chest beating show and real funny to watch Lol
-
Sounds like I'm the one being stalked.
I'm not here to enter into a chest beating show. I genuinely worry about others being sucked in to treatments that do not work. A study comes to my attention that shows this - what's wrong with posting it.
-
How about genuinely worrying about others who have gone through treatments and have come out with debilitating SEs for which they are trying to find solutions IN PEACE on this forum ?????
Celine, I totally agree, pure fear tactics
-
This is where the big misunderstanding is - you are talking about Complementary treatment to help relieve the SE's of traditional treatment. Alternative medicine is just that - an alternative to traditional treatment, not in addition to it.
-
Frankly, we don't distinguish, and categorize, and dissect ad nauseam. We post, we respond, we share where we can and when we can.
BCO is not a filing system, it's a big melting pot. I really appreciate that more alternative sisters than I have been are not prejudiced against my having gone through conventional treatment. I feel accepted and appreciated for who I am : A human being who has a fatal disease, who is trying to deal with the cards she was handed the best way she knows how. I try to give back the support I so generously receive from my sisters.
I AM TRYING TO SURVIVE and you are making it even more difficult for me !!!!!!!
-
There is a reason why they split the Alternative off into it's own forum - the alternative ladies were causing problems for others who had had conventional treatment. I am a big supporter of Complementary as I said before and I do it every day.
The studies I posted are relevant and don't relate to your situation, so I don't see why it's upsetting you - I'm sorry you feel that way.
-
Please dont fight...
I run an alt media forum with my husband.. and reading this " the alternative ladies were causing problems for others who had had conventional treatment." is not surprising...
though it angers me
Sadly .. we are all human, after all and this is why it hurts.
Thank you for welcoming me here and sharing your hearts...
The good.. the bad.. and the ugly
-
I am upset because you and your bunch had me kicked out by the system twice in one month and you are patting yourselves on the back for doing so
ETA - Celine, don't believe what some people say, it's the other way around. Countless alternative ladies, highly intelligent with lots to share, have been run off BCO. Some very radical pro conventional representatives have made it THEIR territory and do not tolerate any views which do not espouse their own. They are willing to go to any length
-
Agree with Celine, especially since this is a very old fight that surfaces periodically and has never had an amicable resolution. Let everyone make their own choices in peace. As I've said before our only enemy is breast cancer, not each other.
Caryn -
The alternative forum was set up so protect the alternative folks from the conventional crusaders. So they would not invade it. You keep setting up threads that invade and disparage in the name of saving us. It's very ugly. I'm so sorry for your life.
You describe your depression in other posts, how you're life is filled with ironing and housework. I'm truly sorry you have to endure that. But causing trouble as an antidepressant wears off very quickly. Get help.
-
Ruby..
"ETA - Celine, don't believe what some people say, it's the other way around. Countless alternative ladies, highly intelligent with lots to share, have been run off "
I am not saying one thing or another .. I just know that alternative.. and main stream.. have a hard time getting along talking about aliens and goverment activities..
I can just imagine.. here (and other places) where emotions are as high as the consequences... that the drama must be intense.
How we treat ourselves... is important to many.. but
IMO...
If you cant help someone on their path.. get out of the way.
oh and when in doubt..climb into a purple bubble... you'll love where it takes you
-
NattyPatty - ironing? housework? surely you have me mixed up with someone else. I am not depressed either. I hardly ever iron and only do housework when I have to - too busy working full time.
Ruby - I have never reported one of your posts, so don't blame me.
Back to the alternative argument - why is it wrong to post some studies that may highlight the fact that alternatives do not work and are not proven. Why are you all so defensive when challenged? In fact, you neither have to read nor respond to this thread.
-
Because, as you've been told, you posted your negligible piece of news in the wrong forum with intentions to stir trouble. If you were so concerned about others being sucked in, you would have posted in the Newly Diagnosed forum. But you didn't for fear of ridicule, that's why
-
Susie,
I have no stake in either camp but if you read the "Who should use this forum header" in the alt forum thread, it makes it very clear that this is probably not the place where anyone should be posting evidence de-bunking alt treatment. I really think that needs to be respected. Caryn -
I disagree. Those studies are worth discussion and evaluation. The header says in part "for those wishing to discuss about alternative therapy only". It doesn't say only pro CAM treatment discussion.
If someone who is familiar with study criteria wants to point out that the study is poorly designed or lacking in some way, that's worth discussing. It's also worth discussing the statistics presented in terms of the outcomes identified. I think it's important that more study is given to this issue. If CAM can indeed have an efficacious outcome for a breast cancer patient, early or late stage, I would want to know which ones and if they might be effective for me. If however, the general outcome is as stated in the studies, then I would only look at CAM to be helpful in alleviating side effects and general overall QOL, but not as something to be promoted as eliminating Cancer from the body.
-
Chickadee,
Here is the entire statement.
This forum is a safe,judgement-free place for Alternative Therapy users and for those wishing to learn about alternative therapy only. Alternative medicine refers to treatments that are used INSTEAD of standard, evidence-based treatment. Please refrain from providing individual medical advice, and from using this forum to voice opposition to this type of treatment. We appreciate your openness and respectful discourse. *NOTE: These views, opinions and recommendations expressed by posters are NOT a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. You should always seek the assistance of a medical or other healthcare professional for medical and other health matters.

Please note the sentence which states , " Please refrain from...using this forum to voice opposition to this type of treatment". Why do some have trouble respecting this?
Caryn -
Posting a study to be considered and discussed isn't the same as expressing opposition, though I see it's taken that way. I would want to know this information as part of my decision making process whether CAM or Conventional. But maybe that's just me.
Let me head back to Stage IV. I'll leave you ladies to discuss or not.
-
Ruby is right. If you were truly concerned with the newly diagnosed you would go to the newly diagnosed forum rather than attack a group already committed to alternatives.
I'm sorry you need to direct your anger and depression at us. You have written about your depression and loneliness at length. You may want to revisit your many posts about how your children avoid you, your cat won't look at you and the daily drudgery of your household chores. Again, you may want to question if attacking the Alternative threads is really working for you.
Night all...busy week ahead.
-
Natty - I beg your pardon?? You definitely have me mixed up with someone else. I have an excellent relationship with my children and my cat. Loneliness??? Totally incredible. Do a search with my username and the word "lonely" - 1 result.
I am not attacking any of you - I merely published some links to articles people should read. Interesting how that brings out the bullies.
-
No, I suppose posting a study is not voicing opposition but I feel it violates the spirit of the alt forum. I simply don't understand why this thread or any thread on the alt forum can't be left alone for those who wish to use alt tx. Grown women and men should be allowed to make choices and decisions for themselves. It sure would stop a lot of this oppositional posting and pointing out if they have bad relationships with their cats. Cats??? Really, ladies, we are all better than that.
Caryn -
The cat thing is really weird - my kitty loves me especially when I am about to open a can of food and she looks right at me all the time.
-
Your cat must be in touch with my dogs. They do the same thing!
Caryn -
Pets sure like the person with the can opener.
Natty - daily drudgery of household chores????? I work full time, I haven't got time for most chores and I certainly never stress over doing any.
-
this thread makes me sad...
and not because of the OP's post...
-
Caryn I couldnt agree more ! I'd like to thank you for posting the rules which really do not seem to be honored on this particular forum.
I hope this horse , who has died a very disgraceful death can stop being beaten now.
-
Okay all -- we think this is a good time to lock this thread. No need to carry this further. If you wish to discuss Research News, we suggest you post in the Clinical Trials, Research, News, and Study Results forum.
Thank you.
