I had aches etc with Taxol, but not so far with Taxotere.  I have had 2 treatments so far, with Herceptin.  I have a twitchy eye, and some dizziness.  I use Crest Total mouthwash to prevent thrush and mouthsores.  In 6 yrs of treatment, I haven't had any mouthsores.  I have bone mets,  and we are using Taxotere to get it in control.  Compared to the bone pain I'll take the muscle aches.  No nail problems but a little neuropathy.  The worst days are the first 5, then it gets better, and I feel quite 'normal' before my next treatment.  I am also doing Neulasta, and Xgeva for my bones.

What I'm wondering if anyone has had 'sweats' with Taxotere?  My first chemo put me into menopause  6yrs ago, but this is nothing like hot flashes.  My head just keeps sweating?

Hockeychick,  my head sweats all the time. It can be quite cool in the room and I can feel the beads of sweat forming on my head. I also had eye twitches in my left eye (infusion side) which was driving me batty but it has subsided.

Thanks for the input ladies! I feel a lot less freaked out, as I lay here with a towel around my head :0)

I'll take the bad with the good and hope side effects mean the drug is working.   Onward and Upward!

Hey , 7 weeks after last taxotere infusion and the muscles on my legs are just starting to not hurt. No throbbing in my quads and shinsplints feeling that I had for months.

    Walking is better now!

Thank you, Tazzy. I am as of now bracing for next week's taxotere #2. I had a really awful time with the first i am now so scared of the next. And the depression, i so want to snap out of it. So much crying! So much pain!

Hope springs from words such as yours.

God Bless you Tazzy and Hockeychick for the PFC updates.  I'm in the same boat as bcBarbie, but having tx #3 next Tuesday and already dreading how bad I know I'm going to feel a week from today.  Also have to give up a trip to an amusement park to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday tomorrow as I know I won't be able to walk around much.  Just the bit of walking I do right now makes my leg muscles feel like I ran a marathon.  I try to get in a bit of extra walking each day (secretary job, VERY sedentary) just to keep from feeling so run down, but it is HARD!
Also thanks to all who chimed in about having the same fears of recurrence.  I try not to think about it and focus on all of the things that have gone in my favor, but there are days that is harder to do than others.
Hope everyone enjoys a restful minimal SE weekend.

bcbarbie & PAEalges... I feel your pain, really I do.

What I used to focus on after tx and I just knew I'd feel crap - anticipation can make you feel bad too - I used to lay there aching and hurting from head to foot and think to myself "OK... you know this passes... you know this is kicking cancer's arse..... you are another one closer to finishing.... you can do this... you just have to get over this week..."

Walking is good.. moves the chemo round.. and dont forget to keep hydrating - it really does help.

    Hang in there ladies ((((hugs)))

just got home from the hospital after tracheal surgery.  Was supposed to be in 2 days, had a encotracheal tube in for 6 days straight and my family was told I wasn't going to make it. Hah.  Am very weak so will probably miss next Taxotere treatment but am determined to get stronger.

Thanks again, tazzy. Indeed, every week brings us one step closer to that light at the end of the tunnel. And yes, i walk, starting on the day after chemo, i hop on the treadmill even for just a 30- minute easy walk, if only to help with the constipation issue. I drink, lots and lots of water. I even manage to eat well even tho everything tastes like paper. These, too, shall pass.

ljhm, so glad you defied the odds! Keep on doing that! You are obviously a fighter, and your amazingly positive attitude is going to get you through this.

To everybody suffering from Taxotere SE's, there were days during chemo that I literally wanted to climb out of my body and run away from myself. It is torture, it is miserable, and IT SUCKS. My heart goes out to all of you, and I feel for you.

As treatments go by, you do get better at managing the SE's, because you know what to expect. My oncologist told me again last week that he hates prescribing Taxotere because of what it does to people, but that it really is an excellent drug which gets the job done. I believe him, because he works at the BC Cancer Agency in Victoria, BC, and they are world leaders in breast cancer research. My chemo finished on May 7, three months ago, and it is now just a distant, unpleasant memory. Just hang in there, be good to yourself, and treat your SE's as they come. Drink lots of water and walk a little every day. This too shall pass; time marches on, even for those on chemo. Big hugs and best wishes to you all!

I have the best support system,  husband and son.  We'll see if my taxotere is postponed this week, I would think so but who knows.  Am eating and drinking okay, just weak but determined.  This site is great for support.

Hello AmyDeann, and welcome to BCO. As well as the great support and information you'll find on this thread, there's a busy Ladies in their 30s thread where you can connect with women around your age. There are also month-specific threads in the Chemotherapy - Before, During and After forum to share experiences with others who started chemo the same month you did.

    Good morning ladies-

Amy welcome to the boards . I am 40 years and just finished TCH last Thursday. During treatment, I also had to be pushed back one week. Don't worry to much about it, if your body needs the break take it.

Gentle hugs to all and hoping for minimal SEs.

I agree that drinking LOTS of water and exercise really helps with the SE's.  I find that I feel really crummy for 4 days after treatment but start to feel better on day 5.  By 1 1/2 weeks my energy is back so I can enjoy the next 1 1/2 weeks before the next one!

I was suffering badly from night sweats but started black cohosh last week and I think it may be helping!  I ok'd with my MO and surgeon and they did not see any problem with taking it.

treatment  # 4 tomorrow, even after surgery last week my counts were all up in the normal range.  Am still really weak from all the steroids, afffects all large muscles so getting up or down is difficult.  Got a whole bunch of aids from CCAC (govt. agency) free so am set to go.  Always soak my nails during chemo in ice and have had no nail issues.  Have caphosol for mouth ulcers so no worries there, that stuff works.  Hopefully everybody has a good week with minimal side effects.

ljhm, Glad to hear you were able to stay on track with the treatments.  I have a countdown on my computer to my 4th and final treatment and dread the thoughts that something might cause a delay.
bcBarbie.. How did #2 go for you?  I'm also sitting here taxotearing and flushing to beat the band!
One of my co-workers did my neulasta shot for me this morning.  She had to deal with her step-daughter having cancer over 10 years ago and was surprised to see how things have changed.  Thinks its pretty neat that it's all prefilled and ready to go now. Lots less to mess around with.
Hope everyone is having a minimal SE day and beautiful weather!

Had my treatment yesterday as all my bood counts were up.  You guys gotta try to find wheat grass juice, the company I buy it fresh from has gone out of business but I know you can buy it frozen or powdered so I'm going to try the alternative.  I have not have one issue with any low blood counts and believe me you would never see me as a poster child for any holistic medicine but I have no other explanation and its cheap enough to try.  Woke up at 6  am today pretty achy so took a perc and my dex and went back to sleep.  Generally feel achy but after my tracheal surgery my breathing is a lot better.  Onc changed me from prednisone to dex to my walking is getting better.  It's a royal pain when you can't do the simple things.  Everybody hang in there, we have each other to sound off on and that's huge.  Here's to a mild SE week for everyone.

Just wanted to post to let you know, although I have no sage words or magic solutions, that yes, this really, really does end.  I had 4 DD A/C and then 4 rounds of taxotere 3 1/2 years ago, and I remember the side effects from the Taxotere as if they were only yesterday.  It is one beast of a drug.  Hang in there ladies, this too shall pass.

PAeagles: thank you for asking. Im 2 days into #2 now and just waiting "for the shoe to drop". Hopefully, this one i will be able to navigate from the previous experience. How about you? Werent we just a day apart? I will be having my Granocyte shots starting sunday, so wish me luck on that.

Thank you, LRM216, those are mighty encouraging words from someone who's been here.

Ljhm, my hubby used to take wheatgrass, too, just as supplement, but then we discovered barley juice, even my onc is ok about this. Hubby says barley is better than wheatgrass, for him, at least. You might want to try it.

My eyes have been getting very blurry for the last few days.   Have got an appointment with an eye specialist but has anyone else had this and does it go away?
