Congratulations to everyone who has finished in the last week or so! It is a wonderful feeling not to have to get up every AM and go to rads. So freeing! I wish all well who have a bit more to go.
Gentle evening

Yay Iniah and Riverangel! Welcome to the other side.
Is anyone else really tired? I slept a lot this weekend and have been napping every day this week.
-
Yes, I am tired!!!!! And it was sad for me too to say goodbye to the techs just like Riverangel said. We finished the same day, awesome!! Now on to Tamoxifen....yikes!!!!
A big hug to you all my dear sisters!!!
-
Iniah-I started my tamoxifen last week and so far so good. I haven't had any problems...not sure how long to expect any side effects. I got mine from my mail order RX and just decided that was the day I would start it.
I have to say that today after a trip to the grocery store I passed out. I find it too much to push and manuever the cart......I was sound a sleep and didn't go get my daughter at work. I woke to my dog barking and my daughter and neighbor at the front door. I didn't realize how exhausting this radiation would make me.....two weeks out and I am still tired. I am guessing the 11 months of dealing with this has sapped me of everything......still need time to heal.
Glad to be done with radiation! Strange feeling like-What do I do now? Guess for now I will nap and get strong.....looking into the Live Strong program at the YMCA. A few friends recommended it and what a great opportunity it sounds like.
-
Bonseye - I know that feeling of what do I do now after rads are done....you kind of feel like ok, I am on my own. I am happy that the Tamoxifen is going well for you. I hope for the same. I need to get into some kind of program for exercise and support like you mentioned. Let me know how that went if you decide to go.
I am still very tired (and burned) so don't feel bad. Just nap the day away if you can!!
Hugs,
Iniah
-
Oh, I am extremely tired and I am a pretty burned too! The last 4 treatments were 25% stronger so that's when my skin really got it.
I nap quite often and am so thankful the Olympics are on because gives me a perfect excuse to be a bit of a couch potato!! My RO told me it could take up to 8 weeks or so to get the energy back. I have added a lot of protein to my diet and that does really help with the fatigue, the days I have more I am not as tired. My RO said to rest, take care of my skin and recover and he reminded me again....you aren't suffering from a common cold.....he has reminded me of this several times. I think it's hilarious he keeps telling me this. I didn't expect the radiation to make me so tired either, I usually go go go, I am always referred to as superwoman...well I guess this superwoman found her kryptonite! Maybe I have had to go through this to learn patience and how to relax. I am not going to rush it.
So happy everyone is doing pretty well and so happy we have made it through. For those that aren't quite done, you are almost there and we are standing at the finish line cheering you on!! -
Have a wonderful weekend Riverangel!! Take care of that skin, my nipple is bleeding today in one small area. Not fun! But I know it will get better.
To all the rad ladies, have a restful blessed weekend.
Hugs
Iniah

Bonseye, will you be over in the Tamoxifen community?
-
Riverangel, will you stay in this community or somewhere else? I would love to stay in touch!
Everybody is no nice here and so helpful and kind.
I appreciate all of you

This weekend I had planned to do 3x 12 hour days at a conference far from home. I made it to 7 today. Not sure how I will do Monday or Tuesday. I am still more human and less super.
-
akinto - boy to I emphathize...wise that you ended at 7
-
So true I do 8 hour shifts & they about do me in. Last night was the end of my busy week 6 out of 7 nights I usually work. I took one night off & have been fighting coming down with something all week. I now have off for 2. On for 2 then off for 3 then back to that crazy stretch again. I will send you some get up & go vibes! That's if I can keep my own brain awake to do it! ; ). All kidding aside protien & maybe some Gensing as I here some take that here. If I didnt have high blood pressure I would be all over the stuff. They even make tea with it. Take care!
-
I don't know about how all of you are doing this weekend but I am so tired like never before in my life! Can't keep my eyes open, very emotional too... I thought it is supposed to get easier after rads???
Is this normal???
-
Iniah. You may continue to feel the effects of rads for some time after you finish. My RO said to expect to take as long to recover as you spent getting rads, and I think he was an optimist. The emotional stuff is all part of the standard BC package too. Rest. Exercise. And cut yourself some slack.
-
Made it to 9 hours today. Skipped the business meetings and parties tonight.
I am staying with my sister, who is taking nice care of me.
I am doing omega 3, power walking, ginseng, and high protein. But it's not quite enough between my recovery from 2 surgeries, two infections, radiation, and the ear infection I picked up on holidays. -
Hi All,
Boneseye, I did the Livestrong program here in Mass. It was great, I loved it. The trainers were very aware of the different types of cancer and what would work for excercise and what we should be careful of. It was a huge help getting m y range of motion back. And it made me feel like I was living and not dying. Go for it!
Like many ohters the emotional piece is doing me in these days. Who am I , what am I , what happens next. I still get tired but it is much better now , I am two weeks out from rads. Like Riverangel, thank goodness for the olympics - great reason to just sit at night. And many nights both of my kids are with me, both teens, so it has been very nice. They are both getting into the olympics , my son cuz he likes the sport of it all and my daughter cuz many of the guys are just "hot" Whatever gotta love it.
Wishing all a gentle day and continued imporvement as we all move forward on this road.

t
iniah-i will join the tamoxifen group......so far so good. I am just taking it and not thinking too much.
Nel-thanks for the info on Livestrong. I am very excited. They have room for me in the fall class.
Right now I am still very tired....3 weeks out. Guess it will take a while. I am good at resting now for sure. This experience taught me such patience. I am not sweating the small stuff any more. I am bummed though...I planned a camping weekend with my inlaws for their anniversary. We rented them an Rv (i don't rough it at all) and now they invited all kinds of family to come. I am a little upset as I thought it would be relaxing....not so much. We are up to 20 people! Luckily they are making food but I am not up to a big party......think my Lorazapam will come in handy!
All the ladies with a burn--hang in there. Mine is healing well but I know how bad it is. Once it starts healing it heals well.
-
Hi Ladies - I am 2 weeks post rads tomorrow. Skin is REALLY peeling now, and turning to leather. I think most of it is going to peel. I had to fill the Silvadene prescription. It just looks red, brown, peeling and really ugly. So what is your skin status post rads?
I am not tired, however, and thankful. Seem to have quite a bit of energy.
-
I am 2 weeks post rads tomorrow also, but still pretty tired. My skin seems ok, chafed and red in some spots, maybe this is a precursor to leathery and peeling.
-
My skin was a bad burn....now it is red but put on lots of Eucerin cream and it works amazing! My skin is soft and healing well. No hot or cold swings so are.....praying not.
-
Denise - are you using ointment like Aquaphor/eucerin in conjunction with your silvadene? The ointment really moisturizes the skin, I have a prescription like silvadene, it's Biafine, but my RO had me start the Aquaphor when my skin started to show irritation. My skin is really soft! But it's still sore, especially the nipple. I've been done about 11 days.
-
Denise - I used the silvadene when all my skin broke down - it's especailly good on the raw red skin. Be sure to use the nonstick Tefla dressings on top - they really do help you heal faster. I had bad "burns" but they had healed completely within a week.
My skin is all healed now but I still get this crazy itchiness occasionally. I use Regenecare, Aquaphor and Vitamin E lotion on my skin now.
-
Just checking in. Have been really busy. Trying to skim posts when I have time.
I have my last regular (#25) rad treatment today. Then 8 boosts and I'm done. So far so good. Not to tired and only a little nipple soreness. I still have some SE's from the chemo and expect them to linger for quite awhile. Just resigned to having to live with them. Hair is growing in very slowly. I look like a little old man.
My daughter and family (husband an 8 kids) are moving back into our apartment as the cost of living in Jerusalem was just to much for them. So I'm busy re arranging everything to fit them in. We do have a completely separate 'suite' including a full bath and small kitchen so it is more like they are moving next door and I'm getting rid of a big kitchen to keep clean and extra floors to mop. I'm excited to have them back (they lived here originally before making the move to Jerusalem 3 years ago).
Best wished to everyone,
Peggy

Kitchenella! Good to hear from you! So glad you are getting to the end!
Wow, you are one brave woman to take in 10 people!!! WOW, I admire you!!
That will keep you young!!
I know I have seen House Hunters International with families looking in Jerusalem. The cost of real estate was astronomical. I was shocked!
Bonseye, Lagata and Mamabee - thanks for the advice about adding to the Silvadene. I was only using Silvadene so I will add to it. Things are finally getting better. The huge peel (an area about 12 inches by 8 inches) is almost done and skin looks good underneath. It only happened as a result of the boost - other areas didn't peel and look good.
-
Denise we have a good set up. Originally we bought this house for them to live in and then we moved here and added an 'in law suite'. We have our own 4 (small but adequate ) rooms, full bath and small kitchen with access to the yard. 3 years ago they moved into Jerusalem to be closer to my son in laws Yeshiva and handyman/constructions jobs. They were renting a 2 room apartment with a postage stamp kitchen, one toilet. My son in law did a great job creating loft's for some of the kids and a small room under one loft for the babies but the parents were still sleeping in the living/dining room. They just could not make enough money to pay that rent plus food and other living expenses are more expensive in 'the J".
It is a bit hectic here right now because this was a sudden decision. They had to come now because the kids start school this Sunday. so all their stuff is now on our balcony and we are scrambling to ge our little kitchen set up again so we aren't sharing. Once everything is put away and settled it will be just like living next door to eachother.
-
I got my new refrigerator yesteday so now we don't have to go 'next door' to get our milk for breakfast. I had #4 boost yesterday and I'm exhausted. Up to now I've not had that much fatigue with the rads. Do the 'boosts' usually make a bigger impact regarding fatigue? Thursday is my last Rad. and a Herceptin treatment. Then I will start thinking I might feel somewhat normal in the near future.
Peggy
-
Kitchenella, the boosts really knocked me out. Up till then I hadn't been that tired, and it started right after I had the first boost. By the end do 5 I could barely drag myself around. It has been gradually getting better since I finished 3 weeks ago, now the fatigue is almost gone.
-
Good to hear Susannah. For someone who was a very active Senior before all this "C" business I find it really annoying to have legs that feel like they weigh a ton to walk. I had my Herceptin treatment yesterday and my white and red blood count was below normal. I'm praying the next blood test in 3 weeks will show an improvement.
The good news is I had my last RT yesterday also. Now to just heal.
