Nervous...
I had a reddish purple mark come up one week ago (last Friday), so I waited through the weekend and no change. I went to the doctor last Monday and insisted she do a biopsy. I have had to get mammograms since I was 23 and they all come back birad 5. Because of my history, I didn't want to take a chance and I asked her to put me on an antibiotic in case it was just an infection. Along with the mark I had burning all throughout my breast. I just finished my antibiotic this morning and it does look like the mark has reduced. However, over the last three or four days, I have been getting headaches off and on, I get sudden back and should pain and a pain in my arm on the same side as the mark on my breast. I was feeling last night and felt a pea size lump under my arm.
Now I am afraid that if my biopsy comes back negative, that I should not just leave it at that. Has anyone else had symptoms like mine and what was your outcome? I am just really nervous about excepting a finding of negative and letting it go (although negative results would obviously make me happy).

Well, if it does come back negative, you could try another round of antibiotics. I don't mean to scare you, but the pea-sized lump is concerning. You could have a wicked infection which is swelling your lymph nodes and continuing to grow because the antibiotic wasn't sufficient or the wrong kind. But in any case suspicious of IBC, you really need to be aggressive for answers because it's so aggressive itself. (But it can be kicked to the curb if caught early!) If it comes back negative, you should see a breast specialist. I don't come on these boards too often, but feel free to PM me anytime.

Well I received my biopsy on Friday, it was negative for cancer, but showed inflammation. I talked to my doctor and asked if she could set up an MRI. I have a diagnostic mammogram with ultrasound today and if it doesn't show anything then she is sending me for the MRI. On Sunday, I checked to see if the swollen lymph node was still there and it is, then I felt the right side and to my surprise I felt a swollen lymph node there that was not present the day before. Since Sunday, my left breast is slowing getting enlarged, it is not extreme, but it is definitely getting larger than the right one. I am not sure what to think at this point.

Fmorgan,
I'm glad they are running you through all testing. You will need MRI positive or negative.
You should find out what's going on shortly. Hang in there.

Thank you ibcmets. I will wait until the end of the week for my mammogram/ultrasound report so my MRI can be set up. I am slowing feeling better about this after each negative report, but with the problems in diagnosing this I want the most ease of mind possible.
