This one is easy for me. A few years ago, my daughter made me a tote bag decorated with photos of her from her growing-up years. She is an incredibly thoughtful girl, and the memory of opening that gift still brings tears. It is my most cherished possession.

my banjo,
DH got it for me yesterday. I haveno musical ability.Have always wanted to learn to play. He can play anything. I'm planning on learning via youtube.

Back in 1985 6 years before my husband died......he gave me an Anniversary ring...........it is gorgeous..............3 rows of 5, 20 pt. diamonds..........15 diamonds in all...........each row is significant of the 30 years we were married at the time..........................he had it designed in such a way, so that when I leave this earth..............the 3 rows, can be separated, and each of my daughters (I have 3 girls) will get 1 row each, of 5 diamonds in a band for them............
Then they can pass the band on to their daughters (each has 1 girl) and it goes on hopefully.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful stories about meaningful gifts from your families!
-
Oh Ducky!
That has to be the sweetest gift, EVER.... -
Seanside.......I cherish that ring more then you can imagine.............I never take it off........even when I went under for breast surgery, and other operations throughout my life since I got it...........they always put a piece of tape around it.............
I have another diamond wedding band that I got the day I got married, and also a gold band, but they are away in a special place............will be buried with the gold ring.............the original diamond wedding b and will be for my daughters too..

Mine was from my mom a couple of years before she passed, she gave me a beautiful music box that sings "Winter spring summer or fall all you have to do is call, and i'll be there" I play it all the time when I think of her and it brings tears to my eyes.

MizMarie, a gift of love handmade. Your daughter must be very creative. Everytime you carry that bag, your reminded of your little girl growing up. Wow!
Fredntan, I've always thought one of the best gifts you can give someone is the gift of music. Soon you'll be sharing this gift when you play your banjo at get together. Ate you going ti learn bluegrass picking or dixieland? I love the sound of the banjo. Awesome!
Ducky, a gift given filled with love for you which is treasured and shared down through the generations. That love you'll carry with you all your life. Beautiful!
Debbie, the simplicity, beauty and joy of a music box. The message of the tune is so special. This pulls at my heartstrings . I lost my mom too. Cherished memories must be brought back when you sit with your music box. Wonderful!
I find this hard to answer.. My parents gave me a Yamaha guitar when I was 12. It has been through so much and has gotten me through so much in my life. My family call it my Willy Nelson guitar.
My kids, at 3 & 4, took their own money and bought me a present at a neighbour's garage sale. They were so proud and excited. It is a little sandcastle.
My Dad decided, out of the blue, to buy hiis 3 girls brand new Honda Civics. All of our cars were ready for the junkyard. (Each girl newly single) We have been driving them since 2004.
Christmas wishlist: a hhousecleaner once a month to do the jobs I have trouble doing! -
Love the idea of a housecleaner! Wouldn't that be such a nice break!

One of the best gifts I have ever received is seeing the happy look in my daughter's eyes at church last evening. She has had a very troubled year, and recently she met someone who seems to really care for her. He is the angel I was praying would come and make her life better!

I bought a iPad2 for an unsuspecting family friend that left him speechless. It was my was of "paying it forward", I had had a good year financially. His ex wife drains his financially and emotionally.

I received my engagement ring for Xmas in 1980, he wrapped it in a big box and I had been saying I wanted a sewing machine that year. What a surprise that was, and years later my daughter got me my mothers ring , I think that was in in 1998. those rings mean the world to me and when I had to removed them this summer for swelling it broke my heart, So my DH told me to got get them re-sized so I could wear them again.

I am at a point in my life where I don't need too many things. 2011 has been a year filled with terrible difficulties and wonderful blessings. My "gift" always has been ,and I hope will continue to be, the love and support of family, friends and community. But an easier to clean juicer wouldn't be a bad idea

The years of life I am having resulting from the treatment I underwent two years ago. Life is just so amazing and vivid now.
Other things are too numerous to mention. I would say the friendship of my friends. The wonderful earth we inhabit.
Even the raging beauty of today's storm.
And that I get to share Christmas Dinner with some very special friends. - Claire

I just read this question aloud, and hubby immediately said, "My wife's clean prognosis." He's a keeper. I hit the jackpot with him. Happy holidays, all!
-
I sent my mom a maid service for moms day. It was such a hit I send them out every couple of months. I got the idea after my ex husband (who was deployed to afganistan at the time) just wanted to do something to help me recover from a hysterectomy and hired Molly Maid
-
Mine for this year is clean scans and mammo can't ask for any thing more 2 days before Christmas !!!! And the best family Sister ,kids and hubby
-
I was around10 and loved to read, I had been eyeing a collection of books, and on Christmas Day it was by my bed, Baby Jesus as is our tradition , had brought them , I still have them.
My beloved father made sure that our dreams will be made true, that he and my beloved mother keep looking after me.

Mine is a necklace I received this year. It's from my two teenage daugthers. It's a heart shaped necklace engraved with "Mom, I love you always". It's not from a fancy jewelry store. It might even discolor after a few wears. But, my oldest hasn't been driving long and the two of them went out completely on their own to find me a gift. They picked it out and paid for it completely on their own. Very special to me.

The days before the internet, when my husband and I were in the early years of our marriage and didn't yet have children. He researched the list of Nobel Prize winners for literature, and bought me a book from each of the past twenty years worth of winners, an immediate and meaningful library of wonderful literature!
-
Can I have four? If so I gotta say my two horses and my two dogs, but hang on, my really best gift was the birth of my son 26 years ago.
-
When I was first diagnosed, a woman from "Wish Upon A Hero", sent me a beautiful decoupage box filled with everything "Pink". And she kept sending one, once a month, filled with beautiful things from jewelry, to soaps, angels, and even a t-shirt.

My dd went to a high school that had an intense arts program. Her major was dance (ballet and modern) and for their senior project the girls had to choreograph a dance (for a few dancers, not just one) with the theme of "Relationships". My dd choreographed her dance for me - she danced about her relationship with me, with the cancer, how it affected her relationship with G-d, and how she came to acceptance of it. It is truly the best gift I've ever received.

I was a very un-traditional bride. I was in my thirties, my husband was younger. I didn`t want to wear white because I wasn`t getting married in a church (I`m not Christian) and, besides, being a pale blond (this was years before my `red-head`phase), I looked washed out and putrid in white and cream. So, I wore a dark, emerald-green Victorian-inspired gown trimmed with black Chantilly lace and paired it with a hooded, black velvet cape (Autumn wedding). My wedding gift from my husband was equally non-traditional: a suite of green opals-pendant, earrings, bracelet and ring. It was his birthstone. I love them.
We`ve been married 18 years, 19 this year. Opals are - by no means - an unlucky stone. -
A surprise homecooked meal from a neighbour - it makes me grateful and humble everytime. Nothing beats living in a small town
-
Best gift every- my daughter. My little sis donated eggs for us so that we could have a child. Every mothers day I thank her for helping to make me a mom. I am truly fortunate!
-
what a wonderful idea and so perfect too
-
Sometimes it's the little things. I'm having surgery soon and was asking a friend if she knew someone coming from Baltimore (she has family there) who could bring me some Hershey's Kisses from there from my son - they are more expensive here than fancy gourmet chocolate. She said she'd find out, but then another friend who was there went and bought me some.
The sweetness of the gesture is far more than the sweetness of the chocolate.
