Hi ladies,

I had a lumpectomy on the left side for a 4mm DCIS- Intermediate level 7 weeks ago. It's been couple of days that I feel my lymph nodes are enlarged and painful in my right armpit. Can it be true that it is something serious? Any thoughts? I appreciate your replies!

Our bodies sure do funny things when healing!  It could simply be just your own body's system sorting out all it's been through recently.  You didn't mention if it's lymph node surgery or rads that cause you to be concerned about LE.

It doesn't sound like typical LE onset, but then again LE can be very unusual.  Hopefully one of the more experienced LE ladies will be able to comment soon, but in the mean time best to play it safe and get them checked out if they're still bothering you after a couple of days.

Hi, Sheila, and welcome to BreastCancer.org.

Our lymph nodes are part of our immune system, and when they're hard at work they sometimes swell noticeably. Usually that swelling just means they're doing their job, fighting some infection or other that may have entered your body. An injury, any sickness--whatever. Swollen lymph nodes aren't related to lymphedema, though, and are not an indication of it.

Check in with your doctor just to be on top of it. Not likely to be a serious problem, but once we've had bc every body change can feel really ominousTongue out

    Be well!

    Thanks Cathy and Binney,

My oncologist has been busy in the last couple of days and I didn't get to see him. I'll have him check me next week but thanks for assuring me it might only be a simple not-cancer-related thing!

I didn't have lymph node surgery nor rads. I've decided to go with mastectomy as there are more suspicious areas in my breasts and I'm tired of biopsies, MRIs, mammos and ..

    Enjoy your weekend!
