Not looking for anything fancy, but would like one that is reliable and durable.  Have had quite a few that just seem to bite the dust after a few weeks or month.

Pedometers are notariously inaccurate. I think you would be better served with a GPS unit. Garmin is the best known and are really nice with lots of features, but can be pretty pricey. I found this alternative:  http://www.zappos.com/soleus-gps-1-0-black-pink

It's pretty inexpensive and the reviews are decent.

Once you go to GPS, everything else seems rather archaic. Smile

I'm using fit4-future's MOVband, which is wrist worn pedometer & I'm satisfied with that it gives me accurate counting of my daily workout.

hi nancyjac, I use a $4.95 Sportline pedometer from the big box store.  It's accurate enough for my needs and cheap enough to replace once a year when the battery quits.  But there are some really nice models out there.  Hopefully, someone else will have a recommendation for you.  Good luck!

I use the Omron pocket pedometer and have used it almost every day for over two years. You can download the data on to your computer which gives you more of an incentive and along with the daily totals, it also tracks separately the distance and time of any steady aerobic walking, which is nice to have when you go for an extra long walk one day. (the aerobic algorithm allows for brief stops to tie a shoelace or pickup mail from the mailbox etc.)

Being able to put it in your pants pocket and the safety of the extra strap and clip to prevent it dropping are nice extras too. This one cost me a little bit more but it's not really all that expensive. I was just coming off of treatment when I bought it at a friends recommendation online from Costco (I'm in Canada) with free shipping. The ease of purchase made all the difference at the time.

Thanks for your input all.  I ended up getting an Omron HJ-113 and so far I'm satisfied with it.  Sounds similar to the one you described Kathy.  Mine doesn't download data but it does store a week's worth of data and it does track time and distance for aerobic walking in addition to total steps and distance.   And I do like the convenience of either wearing it as a clip on or just sticking it in a pocket as well as the double clips for security.  I paid $25 for it at a sporting goods store and if it lasts for 2 years with daily use, I'll be more than happy.

I have a Fitbit. Super small and it has an app for my iDevices! It talks wirelessly to my computer and I can check my stats at any time. LOVE IT!

It also can track your sleep habits. Not sure how scientific it is, but it's interesting to see.

We were all given pedometers in my medical weight management class, and encouraged to get in at least 10,000 steps a day.

It was a brand new Omron, and I noticed two things: if I walked slowly, the steps didn't count, nor would they register as I walked on the carpet around my house.

I asked for, and got, a replacement. Same thing happened.

So I dug out my OLD Omron that was about ten years old, and it works great.

I would just check and make sure you're getting credit for each step you take!!!
