I'll be one year next month. Wow, it's been a hell of a year! Hard to believe how our lives changed so much...
-
One year diagnosis coming up soon. I never ever want to have a year like I just had. I know the same can be said by all of you too.
I have learned so many things this past year. I truly think having cancer has made me appreciate all the good things in my life even more.
My husband has been my rock. We've been married almost 29 years and I think I have fallen in love with him all over again in the last year. I hope I can be as good to him as he has been to me if he ever needs me like I have needed him in the last year. We've laughed together and we have cried together numerous times through out this cancer journey. He recently told me that one of the worst days of his life was the day he shaved my head. I am truly blessed to have him, my family and my friends. -
Hi Everyone!! Wow what a year it's been!! How is everyone doing? I havent't been on this site in so long.

This has been an awesome place to connect, but it's been pretty nice not feeling like I need to check in here every day! I'm feeling almost normal. My onco calls it "the new normal" but it's pretty good to feel like myself again. Working full time, growing my hair back, walking off some of the weight. Some trouble with lymphedema, but compared to others, it's not too bad. Taylor, it sounds like you're doing well, too!
-
I had my biopsy one year ago today. I have one more Herceptin tx, then an echocardiogram and abdominal/pelvis CT scan (this is for the colon cancer we discovered right after my last chemo). My labs have not returned to normal, although my MO tells me as long as the numbers are going towards normal, he isn't concerned. However, every little ache and pain causes anxiety - I sure hope that once I am completely done with treatment I can begin to relax and focus on other things. Hope you ladies are all doing well!

Hi everyone! One year ago yesterday was my first chemo treatment. What a difference a year makes. I feel almost completely normal. I'm back to working full time and I'm not as tired anymore. I've already had a haircut in June and could use another one soon. I've got some aches and pains from the arimidex and cataracts, most likely from the steroids and chemo. I'm getting a scan Friday to check some lung nodules they found last September. We've been doing CT's every 6 months just to keep an eye on them. Since I've had some hip pain for a while he threw in a PET scan too. It's probably just arthritis but he wanted to check and since I was due next month for the CT he wanted to play it safe.
I hope everyone is feeling well and "normal" again. How's the tamoxifen or arimidex going? Anyone else develop cataracts?
MizMarie, so sorry to hear about the colon cancer. That's completely unfair! Did you have to do more chemo for that? -
No to the cataracts, I think! I'm having a lot of trouble with my eyesight lately, but I have had it checked, and dr said no new glasses now. I'm sure he'd have seen cataracs. I'm taking letrozole - femara - instead of tamo, and it's going okay. Hot flashes, aches and pains, but okay. Hot flashes might also be due to the oopherectomy in February. You're right though. What a difference a year makes. I started chemo a year ago yesterday. I'm working full time, exercising some, living life again!
-
I'm hanging in there! I joined a Dragon Boating team: Team Survivor Sake! An all-women's team. It is SO good to paddle with those ladies!
Yes, what a difference a year makes. So thankful to be here!!

Hello ladies,
Yes, it's hard to believe a year has gone by since we were all starting chemo. As I dropped my girls off at school this morning for the first day, I was remembering that last year I had chemo on the first day of school and missed taking them to school on the first day for the first time ever.
I've been back to work full-time since May. I still feel a bit tired some days but overall I'm feeling well. I'm going for my follow-up scans at the end of this month. I'm sure that will cause some anxiety but I'm praying for good results.
As for my hair. Well, it came back grey as I expected and I decided to leave it that way. I had my first haircut at the end of July. -
Hi everyone, i was given the wonderful news today that i am NED!! I got the results from my follow up PET scan. I can get my port out now too! Hope you are all doing well
-
Grimbol - excellent news! Doing the happy dance for you!
I have an appt tomorrow with my MO to review CT results, and I hope to be able to post my own good news then.
-
Yay Grimbol! MizMarie, I hope your CT went well!
I got the NED news after my CT scan last week. 2 more infusions of Herceptin and I am DONE! I'll get my port out after that. I might even miss it...
I'll be on a daily pill (Tamoxifen) for the next 5 years, but that's OK!
Such a difference for all of us from a year ago, eh?
-
I had the port out today!! So nice to be rid of that, except.......i might miss it :-) i had my first mammo since dx, not too fun but not too bad either. I will repeat those at 6 month intervals apparently.
-
Congrats Grimbol! My port is coming out this afternoon - Yay for being DONE!!!
-
Well having made it all thru chemo, rads, and Herceptin, i end up in the hospital for a night after getting my port out - go figure!! Not really sure what it was but it acted like heart problems. Forunately several tests and probably ALL my blood being drawn later, they've decided my heart is good. Might have been gallstones, might have been something to do with having the port and central line out, but at least my heart is ok. So, now I am hoping to move on!
I hope your removal is smooth and uneventful mizmarie. -
So glad to hear everyones good news! After chemo, I had my BMX with TEs, radiation, and I just had my exchange (and my port removed)!!! My last PET scan came back clear
I am so glad to have BC behind me! I am looking forward to my foobs to "drop and fluff" and finally get back to normal!
I do have to mention, it has been a reality check to not be the "cancer girl". I didn't enjoy it, but I still identify with it...and I have to remember that I don't have a sign on me (or a bald head) saying, THIS GIRL IS GOING THROUGH CANCER! I am so happy to not be the cancer girl! I can just be me again!
-
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to say hello and check in with folks. It's been close to 3 1/2 years since we began this crazy journey. Hope y'all are doing well!!
-
Hi NWArtLady - I still pop in to BCO occasionally and am so thankful to have had these boards for information and comfort during treatment - it was truly a lifeline. I am also thankful to say I am healthy and hope the rest of the ladies from our group are doing well also.
-
how are you
-
Hi MizMarie and Formyloves!
MizMarie, I am so glad to hear you are doing well!!
-
happy 5 years! I thought I was a goner this time 5 years ago, yet here I am. Don't frequent BCO to much now, too busy living life. I am now sage IV and metastatic, but I am still here. Who knows maybe I'll get to see year 10!! 😻
-
Hi All, Next Thursday will be my 5 year cancerversary - it feels like forever, yet only yesterday. I'm sure you all understand. I'm still here, just had a 6-month onco visit and all is well. Formyloves, sorry to hear of you Stage IV status. Hope you are feeling well and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you're still hanging around in another 5 years! Hugs and love!
