Ayurvedic medicine
Anybody here who is using ayurvedic medicine and not taking any chemo, rads, hormons?
Im using ayurvedic medicine and preparing for surgery of breast lump(cancer?carcinoma?fibrodenoma?benign lump?malignant?different diagnosis)in two weeks. They recomend me take radiation, chemo, etc.I chose dont take that. But doctors are not happy about my choice not to follow traditional western surgery plans...If i say-- i wanna just surgery, they say---no, you need to follow all complete plan.

nobody?
any ideas?
Tomorrow i need to go to confirm my surgery date and apointment with anestesyologist. But still i dont like that idea about chemo radio and hormon theraphy by force....
-
himalaya ~ If I was in your situation, I would want to know my surgical pathology before deciding what type of treatment to pursue, and then I would ask any practitioners you are considering using for research results for their recommended treatment for your particular type of bc.
I don't think too many of us liked the idea of needing chemo and radiation, but many of us decided to use some of those treatments and to complement them with alternative therapies, such as ayurvedic medicine, to keep us healthy and lessen any side effects.
Just be sure that whomever you trust to treat you has a lot of experience with breast cancer, which is not always the same illness.
Best to you with your surgery ~ Deanna
-
Thank you Deanna.
I agree about that surgical pathology.
I wanna more info in case if realy can do alternative medicine, i heard a lot but i wanna see some real person who is doing that.
By the way today we decided to make big needle biopsy to see more whats in the lump.

Does anybody no of if Ayurvedic (Turmeric/Curcumin) will interfer with Armidex. I want to start taking it for inflammation. I am thinking not but want to make sure. Thanks. By the way I am new to this.
-
Im drinking tumeric powder once a day 1 tsp for glass warm water.
My ayurvedic doc say its the simpliest and cheapest way how to use tumeric powder.
-
Thanks, I will into turmeric powder. I am assumming I just buy the powder in the spice section of grocery store.
-
Yes, then mix it with warm water and drink it .That comes from Indian medical science, but there are so many herbs in our local areas as well.Just need to find out.
Some people say that local herbs, fruits, berries helps more for health than imported ones.
But anyway people all arround the world get healed with ayurvedic medicine what is based on indian herbs, spices ,fruits, berries and clarified indian butter.
Im living in Holland and its not easy to find a quite place to pick up local herbs, roads and highways are everywhere.I will try dune area one day, to see 3, 4 hearbs for womans health and antiseptic, antifungal, antitumor herbs.

Hello
I have just been diagnosed w/ invasive ductal + hormone responsive cancer. I go for surgery in 1 week. I am seeking post surgical treatment with qualified ayurvedic doctors and will likely do full pancha karma detox prgramme. My regular "corporate" doctors think this is a death sentence and push me to do radiation + 5 yrs. Hormone blockers. I am scared either way but the corporate medicine seems worse than the disease. Good luck but please see trained ayurvedic doctor and do research & study. Just taking some tumeric is not enough. Read yoga of herbs and other books by vasant lad. Etc. -
It is not "by force." You can always opt out of their treatment plan at any time.
However, in your first post you seemed to question if the lump was even cancer. If your docs are recommending chemo and rads, then it is cancer.
Which country are you in?
What kinds of tests have you had so far? -
Natkat, please do consider that the hormone blockers appear to be extremely effective against ER+ cancers. Rads are not fun, but it is a relatively short treatment phase and the recovery is quick usually. If your docs think you can safely skip chemo, then you are already starting from a really good place.
-
Dear Natkat,
Just curious. How have you been diagnoses with invasive ductal cancer before surgery? I believe the invasive component of ductal cancer is not confirmed until after a lumpectomy.
-
Motherof...,
I had areas of both DCIS and IDC. They were diagnosed before surgery, based on biopsies. But, sometimes what appears to be DCIS, has IDC components as well and that would not be known until the path report after surgery. Biopsy can detect IDC.

Thankyou for replies. I had dx of idc from biopsy. Surgery will tell if spread to lymph nodes. Hormone blockers scare me maybe worse than cancer. I am 48. Afraid to have no sex drive & ostioporosis. Rads scares me too. I am very healthy athletic good diet. So many women here accept mastectomy hormone ovary removal but this seems worse than cancer to me. My wonderful surgeon has no idea why i or anyone has cancer. At least ayurvedic doc have theory what causes it. Pls forgive rant. I feel crazy like walking blind thru a mine field.
-
It is an interesting form of medicine but cancer is so dangerous why not have the cancer removed first then use Ayurvedic medicine to help you heal and recover.
Turmeric root can be bought in any chinatown I juice it in my green drinks every morning.Unprocessed honey, and ghee are always on hand in my kitchen. The mung bean rice recipies are great for the digestive system while going through all this stress.
-
Mumito & many others maybe missing the point? Ayurvedic medicine is not just take some tumeric and eat some mung beans! It is whole medical system w/ treatment protocols to remove cancer. More effective than corporate medical protocols? No statistics so we dont really know. Only stats ive found were in indian newspaper and not comparasin stats. NO stats on how effective is FULL ayurvedic tx post lx. Possibly i will be first stat. Will let you know lol.
-
I have read two books on Ayurvedic medicine. My niece is studying and living the lifestyle.Natkat ((hugs)) I wish you well.Keeep us updated on your recovery.
-
Natkat, I did not "accept" BMX, chemo, rads, ooph and femara. I decided that under the circumstances these treatments gave me the best chance of survival. I am also 48, and I have stuff left to do.
My mother did see an ayurvedic doc during her chemo, but was not impressed with the woman she found. There is one here where I live who has a very good reputation, and I might book an appointment. Just warning you that quality, as with any doc really, can be a bit hit or miss. -
momine, I don't think she meant the word "accept" the way you took it. Pretty sure English is her second language, so she is just trying to get across the idea that a lot of women choose conventional treatment. She's right - a lot of women do. I sure did.
-
Hello all,
Thank you for interesting replies. LOL English is my first languagae but iPhone is 2nd language!
Corporate doctors pressure me to "accept" either LX + 6 weeks rads + 5 yrs hormones OR mastectomy. The first surgeon (whom I fired) was pushing for mastectomy and lymph removal before I even had a solid cancer diagnosis! My wonderful female surgeon who promises a very conservative lumpectomy and only to remove 1-3 lymph nodes is completely set on 6 weeks radiation + 5 yrs hormone blockers. Whenever I mention alternatives, even my primary is on the bandwagon: FEAR FEAR FEAR you might DIE if you don't do EXACTLY as we TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I know women die. I've watched 3 of them. I observed the woman who did nothing went easier than my friend who got all the surgeries, rads, and chemo before she died. As for my mom? The mastectomy killed her. So I am not a big fan of mastectomies, and all the creep show stuff corporate doctors like. I do not appreciate doctors using FEAR to pressure patients into accepting treatments which are dangerous and possibly worse than cancer.
I have spoken w/ 2 very qualified ayurvedic doctors. 1 is also MD, the other pure Ayurvedic classically trained in India. The Indian doctor had the attitude: your cancer is not such a big deal, you will get treatment and you will be fine. LOVE HIM. No pressure. Nothing but pure encouragement to assess my situation and make my own choices.
Ayurvedic recommendation was to proceed w/ sugery then Pancha Karma post surgically if the cancer has not spread. If the cancer has spread, recommendation to take radiation then do pancha karma program after that. Ayurvedic doc pesented that it was MY choice whether to pursue the whole 6 weeks radiation program, a lesser program, or none at all depending on the nature of the cancer.
I will not take hormone blockers. CANCER is the problem - not estrogen Ayurvedic pancha karma can eliminate the root causes of cancer but it is not specific to hormore reactive cancer. I am educating myself on how to treat the hormonal issue above & beyond ayurvedic protocols. I am lerning the problem isn't the estrogens, its the body's failure to metabolize them correctly.
LOL it will be some time before I can report a statistic of success or failure in mixing corporate + ayurvedic + self treatments. But I hope the original poster and anyone else considering ayurvedic approach gets REAL ayurveda from a qualified practitioner - not some half-a$$ed hippy-dippy sh*t. I believe if we take natural medicines seriously, follow real medical protocols, get qualified practitioners, and collect real stats, we might find natural methods are comparable to corporate medicine. Each has its strong suits. Modern surgery is grand but their attitude toward hormones is like fixing jewelry with a sledge hammer. And should worse come to worse, dying naturally isn't any worse than dying after surgeries, rads, and chemo I've seen both.
-
Hi,
Can you recommend a good book on Ayurvedic medicine?
Thanks.
-
Natkat, I am sorry about your mom. How did she die from a mastectomy, if I may ask?
-
Was doing some reading on Ayurvedic and found you over here.
Natkat, I get it, all of why you say and what you say. Completely and truly.
Whatever way we go w traditional/alternative vs the conventional Western, this is huge and right, it means thorough immersion into the tx choice each of us makes.
Just completed the book, 'You Did What? Saying no to conventional cancer treatment.'
Here's a list of books I have read or am reading that I just posted on early stage natural girls. None are Ayurvedic though some touch on it. I cannot recommend an Ayurvedic boook yet, but my protocol is headed in this direction after I complete this month's protocol, so are my lifestyle changes though I never thought I would choose this approach, ever.

Whether about Ayurvedic or any other alternative / traditional choice vs the conventional choices..... we must be aggressive, but to me that does means to do harm to self/patient as we become strong and heal gently.
This bc has made me a truer student of the traditional medicines. I love them. Am not a purrist in any one though, though perhaps I might do so.
Hormones, am doing many things. Black beans cooked in seaweed to soak up excess estrogen (Edens organic, black beans, they are careful about the purity of product and cans are lined so aluminum is not a factor.) Glutathione. I used DIM-type products but w hypothyroidism it is a challenge until I am on more natural stuff, one will be thyrosine I think, it is, my dr is getting me on it in a week. I decided to use bioidentical progesterone cream vaginally, conservatively, when I found out it is proven to fill the ER+ eceptor and block neg affects of estrogen. Took over a year to decide this, no abrupt decision for me. Must keep liver working well as it clears estrogens and xenoestrogens... info I am getting to in Chapter 10, Hormone Harmony of a new reference book, The Whole-Food Guide for Breast Cancer Survivors, by Wauldman. (With my memory I am nothing w/o my books LOL). I see that the book references www.wrightnewsletter.com for Dr. Wright, an expert on hormones. Don't know much more yet.
One thought, if the cancer is spread, the radiation is more for local, not systemic like chemo...... the radiation tx is to keep the cancer from reoccurring in that area of body. Chemo is for systemic. I have chosen neither, btw.
Granddaughter is here and gotta go, seems another of those Derecho straight line wind storms coming, w lightening augh darn, off computer....

Thank you for book recommendations. For the poster who asked about ayurvedic books
Dr. Vasant Lad
The yoga of herbs
Ayurvedic Home rRemedies
These books are on Amazon pretty cheap and give good intro to REAL ayurveda. The home remedies book is easier to read but both are good. I go for surgery tomorrow and will start ayurvedic programme about 1 week after if all goes well. Will consult via tele then travel to clinic as no suitable practitioners in my area. -
Thinking of you. Will place those books on wish list too. So little time to read all but am goal oriented.
-
If you only have time for read 1 - the Home Remedies is faster & easier. Nothing specific to cancer treatment but good info in ayurveda disease theory and how to do modified pancha karma at home.
