    I had the only computer in Toronto in my high school. We had punch cards too. When my first son was born, I was working in a computer room with punch cards!!!! That was 32 years ago!!

    My DH cleared a whole bunch of non-craft-room crap out of my craft room yesterday!!! I can see the floors!!

    My first Home computer was a 286.  It took 10 minutes to boot up!

    As long as we're dating ourselves, I did computer programming of punch card systems! After having already worked for 6 years.....those were the days all right. Glad you guys are getting your rooms in order. Mine's coming along too, just waiting for my new work tables....oh boy.

    My first job out of high school I was in charge of the "modem"  a huge piece of equipment that I dialed a number and affixed the handset onto it and left it for the night while it downloaded information.  Oh, and changed the 5 1/4" floppys daily.  Everything done in DOS.

    I have started making use of my new and improved sewing room.  Only alterations and repairs, but it is so nice to go in there and find what I need, use it, and put it away.

    A friend of mine hooked me up with a blog that shows how to use washable school glue as a dye resist.  It turned out cool.  I have done a few things and its really easy.  It's one of those projects that take a few days to do, but in the end its well worth the wait.  Heres the link to how she did it.  Really fun.  Just make for sure you use washable glue and that you scrap it off before washing.

    I used 100 % cotton pdf fabric.  My co worker did this with t-shirts.  I'll give it another try on posting the link.

    I set up onother sewing machine in my sewing room and begain teaching FDIL how to sew last night.  Most of this first leasson was teaching her about the machine, how to thread it, how to wind a bobbin, etc.  I also had her practice straight stitching so she could have some fun, too.  She is excited to learn.

    While waiting for her to arrive, I got a half dozen repair jobs out and completed them.  That felt good.

    Well, after a heavy weekend of cleaning, and a little orgainizing, I worked on my crazy quilt bed runner. As you can see in the header, I have all of the pieces together.  Now it is just time to embellish.  My biggest problem right now is that I can't find all the embellishments I purchased for this project! Oh well.  It feels good to get something accomplished.

    I've always loved crazy quilts. The embellishments are always so creative. Great that you've gotten back to work on yours, must be a great feeling.....

    I started a project yesterday!!! I've been gesso-ing fabric onto a painter's stretched canvas and it just looked SO plain! I was inspired by a picture I took of an old barbed wire fence with a beautiful red-leafed vine growing over it. Sooooooo....

    I grabbed my bead drawer and my embroidery threads and have started to go nuts!!! I'm embellishing it to death! My DH went to the Canadian Open Golf thing yesterday with the boys so I had 12 hours to get going and I finally did! I'm SO proud of myself! Meece we picked good start up projects and they are unstructured and imaginative and should get our creative juices flowing again. I am using Swarovski beads that are probably $1+ per bead, but they've been sitting in a drawer for 20 years so what's the point!!! This will be a holder for all my gorgeous beads if nothing else! I wish I could get pics onto bco, but something is not working right!

    Chrissy, funny you should know that I can email a pic!! I will update some pics and get them to you. It's hard to show such minute detail, but I'll try to get some. It helps us all when we can see a project progress. I'm looking forward to seeing some close-ups of Meece's!! God is in the details, Meece!

    Barbe, Mecce, all, you are inspiring me woth your news.  Barbe, perhaps you should run a summer camp for all of us needing inspiration. I love your project and how you changed it up!

    Meece, I'm working on the last block of a Block Of the Month, and have my ideas about sashing/borders on my design wall. I'm able to use my new room, and love the lighting in it. But....for the Olympics, I'm concentrating on knitting a fair isle vest sweater. I'm having my own knitting Olympics. I might have to change that to a quilting Olympics (marathon of course) next week. Anyone want to join?

    Well, I have no intention of watching Olympics...would rather watch paint dry. But, I will go on a beading marathon with you!! I feel the need to bead!!

    Great, Barbe, no need to watch Olympics, we'll just have our own marathon for whatever "sport" we choose. I'm choosing tri-Athlon as then I can knit, quilt and hook rugs. Your beading sounds fun..... Anyone else? Great excuse to forget normal chores and just create.....

    I am already working on the "uneven- parallel" squares and will perform more "floor exercises" as I go through more boxes of crafty "stuff".

    FDIL came over last night for another lesson in sewing.  She is "taking in" pants so she is getting a lot of experience in straight-stitching and seam removal.  I just sat at my machine and played with the different stitches.  It took a lot of restraint not to take over to make the job go faster.

    Barbe, would you post a photo of your beading? I would love to see your work, including the foundation you are beading on. Actually I love to see anyones work. Handcrafted items are just the most precious, each of us working to our own abilities.  I still am not to work on anything and my sewing room remains unsorted. 

    Meece your runner looks like it will be quite wonderful. Let us see it when completed too. I never learned up to date quilting myself. I do know how to hand piece and quilt but am not good at it. Eight stitches to the inch is my all time best. My teacher could do eleven and more!  

    I come here to read about everyones projects and rooms trying to get motivated once again myself. Grrr. Every joint in my body aches with aromasin. It was good the first few months but hurts a lot now.

    Dd and DGD coming over in a bit I better get myself pulled together.

    Meece and Barb,

    Ok, I missed out on my triathlon today, but did manage to spend some time working on my show jumping event! You know, where you have to jump over all those loose boxes while trying to get your room organized? I did a bit of "grooming" too....as in cleaning my stack of project bags which have been stored for years in open storage and needed a good clean......felt like an Olympian tast to me anyway......



    Gingerbrew, have you tried taking Claritin at the same time as your Aromosin? Some women seem to find relief from the bone pain when they take the two together. Sorry to hear about the pain you're having...

    MostlySew, what was your 'score' at your event?

    Me, I beaded so hard through so many layers that I had to use needle-nosed pliers to get through it all!! Ask me how my fingertips feel.... I use a leather thimble that is pretty much ripped to shit, but don't think I could use a metal thimble after all these years.

    I really MUST get some pictures to Chrissy!

    HAHAHAHAHA, I just came down from working on my project and saw the post about having to get pics! Doi on me!!! MUST get a camera and it in the room at the same time! I did a spider web. I find I do a lot of them with handwork. People love them. I think it makes it "real" for them, I mean seriously, who would put a spider web in a beautiful craft art piece? The project is still so bare, but I've begun to lay some of the wire fencing down. I had to get the background in, so it looked plausible, before I lay on the foreground. I know I'll be covering up work I've done, but that again, makes it realistic.
