Radiation

Options

Hi ladies I am pretty new to this sight. I had a lumpectomy and 3 lymphnodes removed. Nodes and margins were negative. I will see the radiation Dr. For the first time on August 8th. My second appointment will be for tattooing. I was wondering if anyone knows are the tattoos permanent? And does it hurt.

Thanks

Patricia

Patricia, until other members post with their experiences, a good place to start reading is the Radiation section of the main Breastcancer.org site. Just click the link to go there.

The tattoos are permanent, but you can have them removed if they bother you.  They look like a black freckle, I can only see one of mine.  They don't hurt at all, they are a small needle with a bit of black ink on it.  Good luck! GG

mine did one tiny tiny tattoo in center of chest. hurt just a little. then they marked other areas with something like sharpie and covered those with little clear stickers. looks like chinese writing at top of chest. had to go out and buy some higher cut blouses.

The first session is the planning session and you have to keep your arm up over your head. in a fixed don't move position. mine took longer than expected. it was a agonizing hour. I wish I had taken a flexerol or something.. I have full range of motion to my arm. but still things are tight.

good morning medwick. my tattoos are permenant also, the only one that had just a bit of a stinging effect was the one in the middle of my chest where it is a bit more boney but it only lasted a few seconds the rest i had no pain. The techs were good and pretty quick with that part. They also mark you with markers but it washes off. The techs also will make you feel comfortable and explain what they are doing as they do it also, if you have any questions they are willing to answer them. So good luck it wasn,t that bad at all.

Hi ladies just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your support. I could not do this without talking to people who have been through it or are going trough it. I will keep everyone posted as I get my info and start my treatment
