falling off the wagon is no big thing, in my opinion, the psychological good feelings of enjoyment weigh in big for feeling good.
love hummus too...found this great indian bread called naan (?) that has 8 grams of fiber...it is kinda like pita but yummier in my opinion...
love wasa and love popcorn but it gets caught in my teeth to easy.
made pork fried rice without the pork for dinner last night. brown rice, loads of colorful peppers, tofu, spinach, celery, tomatoes tossed in olive oil...at the end put some sweet and sour sauce on it..
really good, even kid friendly...
tina, got my hair ironed after haircut last week... it was so neat! i thought of you...am now looking for the tool to buy and do at home.
got the best haircut ever last week...decided i don't need a shrink, just more trips to the hairdresser...
anyway, i fall off the wagon regularly in small portions, fiber rules, and wonder if we should take the calcium supplement and soy intake discussion to the debate thread...

LOL about the hair.
Hubby and I decided we didn't need marriage counseling, we needed a cleaning lady. Fixed all our issues right up. -
ahhhh a really good haircut is priceless! That and a cleaning lady! Only problem with staying home DH expects me to do it! Yikes!!!
Tina falling off is part of this journey, it is stupid to deny yourself everything. A cheat can spur you on! Fiber is the key no doubt, in my life no fiber my body ain't happy! -
My thought on popcorn (any feel good snack food really) is it's gotta taste good or why eat it. So not all the lowest fat popcorn works for me. We usually eat OR Light Butter.
Frankly, the nutrition facts on popcorn boxes are somewhat tough to read. The OR light Butter- 1 cup popped: 20 calories(5 from fat),Total fat when popped(read the *)1 gram of fat (0 grams saturated, 0 grams transfats), 35 mg sodium, less than one gram of fiber, and so on...and I think it tastes good. -

I straighten my golden locks 2-3 times a week depending on how much product is in it at any given time. I am done chemo just over 1 year and my hair is still as curly as ever.
I love fibre.....I would seriously marry fibre if I could

I'm going to make the WW low fat brownie mix/all bran/muffins today.

Tried the pumpkin in the brownie mix. It was better than the black beans. The result is a bit gelatiounus (sp?), don't know that I'll try that again. My half jar of prunes were moldy so I didn't blender them into the pumpkin as I'd been considering. All things considered, applesauce may be the best substitute. I think I've sacrificed enough brownie mixes.
Checked out the microwave popcorn. My goodness, things have changed since I last went looking for it. I like those mini-bags. -
Rose, there's a thread on the WW discussion boards about the bean brownies - I think NASTY was unanimous!! They all decided to take the points hit and eat a real brownie!

Has anyone tried No Pudge brownie mix? It is fat free and really pretty good. The best thing I like about it is that since it is just my hubby and me at home, I can make one brownie at a time.
To make one at a time you mix 2 tablespoons of the mix with 1 tablespoon of either fat free sour cream, or fat free yogurt, or lite applesauce. I put a couple of drops of vanilla in also. Spray a custard cup or a simular size dish, and put batter in. Microwave it for 50 seconds to 1 minute.
If we are having another couple for dinner it is pretty easy to make up one of these for everyone. Top it with sugar free cherry pie filling and a dollop of calorie free Cool Whip. It may not be calorie free but it is lower in calorie, no fat, and very tasty.
Also, I use ground flax seed in my cereal for extra fiber.

yes i am having a serious love affair with fiber too...as for who i would want to marry? it would be a toss up between fiber and antioxidants...
the brownie thing - i think i will take a pass and limit myself to really delicous dark chocolate ones with walnuts every once in a while....
glad the boards are back up, maybe they got broken because of too many threads?

i add the flax seed to my cereal too. i think i have started to enjoy the flavor along with the benefits...
i swear i don't have as many hot flashes when i eat it regularly.
that brownie recipe sounds greati will wait for roses verdict but sounds good to me!

I am getting back to meal planning, that helps my fiber intake as well as my munch cravings. I bought some lovely strawberries, and angel food cake! Nothing better. I made some jello for the kids for an afterschool snack, I am going to pop some popcorn too before school is out.
If I plan they eat better food as well as we do to. DH is having to stick to low fat now too so it is a easier to deal with! -
I'm into flax for the skin benefits. Tamoxifen is no friend to my skin.
My DH is going for a check-up tomorrow and I hope they tell him to go on a diet. That tummy is hanging out over his pants. Then he complains his back hurts!
The boards were attacked by something. My pop-up blocker was churning away like mad when I was on Friday. Everytime you opened something up all this downloading activity went on and they were slow. -

I was wondering what is your recipe for Hummus? I love it too. The recipe that I have found to make it has Sesame Tahini in it and I believe that this has loads of sugar in it which I don't want since I am diabetic. Was wondering if you would post it or PM me with it. Thanks!!!

Celia, I make hummus a lot,and the tahini I use only has ground roasted sesame seeds and salt for ingredients. I get it at our local health food store. It tastes like a nut butter to me.

If humus has sugar then it's being added. When I looked up tahini it didn't mention sugars, but it does have a lot of fat. It's 'good' fat, but still mostly fat.
I usually buy humus because I don't want to buy the tahini, but if you made your own you might cut down the tahini in it and reduce the fat. I like tahibni. When I first moved here I lived in a group house with some hard-core vegeterians who were into it so we had it around all the time.
After two failed brownie trys I got the No Pudge Brownies, and I am happy to say they are good. I put applesauce in them. -

The recipe I use is kinda in my head but here goes
1 can of chick peas (drained)
juice of 2 whole fresh lemons
2 tablespoons of Tahini
Olive oil
fresh garlic (your preference in how much)
Salt/pepper to taste
I use a food processor, toss the lot in and wizz.
Now, depending on the consistency and taste you like, adjust the lemon and oil. I like mine a bit softer and thinner so I add a little more liquid. (oil or lemon)
I buy my Tahini at the Middle Eastern grocery store and it has NO added sugar but a little more salt so I usually don't add any to the hummus.

Tina--thanks so much for posting your recipe. It looks a little more interesting than the one I had used. It has been a long time but I believe that my recipe had no lemon juice or olive oil.
Rose and Naomi and Tina---I googled till I found the kind of Sesame Tahini that I am pretty sure that I had bought years ago. I think it was Joyva brand in the metal container with the swami on the front. The info for it on the web says it is ground sesame seeds and doesn't indicate any other ingredient. I remember that I had to stir it to get the oil mixed back in. I also remember tasting it and finding that it was very sweet, like sesame candy with honey in it. In the info on the web the Joyva company has another product called Halvah that is "crushed sesame seeds with a binder of honey." It comes in the exact same can and size as the Sesame Tahini does. So now I am wondering if my can of Sesame Tahini was mislabeled. I would not have bought Halvah because I know what that is, but I think that what I tasted was much more like that than Sesame Tahini. So I am not sure how it happened but I am much happier about trying to get Sesame Tahini again and making my own Hummus. Thanks to you all!

Halvah is sweet. I haven't had that in ages. Probably a diebetic should avoid it. I think that must have been what you got before.

may i ask.........am i the only one whose weight fluctuates daily by 2-4 pounds? one day i'm 4lbs up another i'm 3 lbs down, plus i retain water something dreadful...........everything that pushes into my extremities leaves big "dents" can we take diuretics on tamox? thanks, michelle

You only weigh 100 lbs! You crack me up. But anyway, my weight does tend to go up and down 3 lbs. Sometimes I think it is if I have to many salty foods or starches, but that does not stop me from eating them. So here I am on the low fat- high fiber diet forum talking about starches. I can tell on the days my weight is up that my pants tend to be a little tight, so I can understand your concern, cause it sure is harder to take off then it is to put on. I have read that if you retain water, drink more water. Go figure.

I like Tina's recipe for Hummus, here is mine. Because I could not find Tahini~
I use a can of garbazo beans drained
a bit of olive oil
and some salsa
Then I grind it to smitherenes!

As ready as I am to make hummus from Tina's recipe, I confess that when I was shopping today I did buy a jar of hummus because I couldn't wait. Great minds think alike!!!
You are so right--I don't get halvah because it is sweet and this was ages ago before I was diagnosed diabetic. I did throw the can out (of whatever it was) at the time because I was sure that hummus should not be sweet, and I didn't think about sesame tahini again for a long long time afterwards.

I like it spread thin on my sandwich I brown bag to lunch. It keeps the bread from getting soggy and unlike mayo it has some fiber.
I can tell Cowgirl is from Texas because she's got us putting salsa in our hommus! I wonder how a can of green chilies would go. They're lower fat than tahini.
I keep a pretty close eye on my weight. If I eat something salty or eat out several days in a row and it goes up then I try to drink water and stay off of salty or caramel colored things until it goes down again.
It's easy to get fooled by flucuations and the next thing you know you've gained 5 pounds that doesn't want to go away. -
I found the 9 grams of fiber wraps at Wal-Mart. They are the light ones and look pretty good. It is a good source of protein. I had a re-registration for my Reach to Recovery group on Saturday and a speaker on nutrition had stressed that we get at least 50 grams of protein a day. So I have been trying to figure out how close I come to that and it is pretty tight, since I don't eat much red meat. I am sitting here eating my typical lunch of Activia yogurt mixed with 4 different fresh fruits.
I also find that my weight can fluctuate by 3 pounds from one day to the next. And I have also read that what you eat won't show up on the scale until 2 days later.
Rose-what the heck is caramel-colored stuff??? At least that doesn't include dark chocolate-my bigest downfall.

Caramel colored, like cola, coffee. I think it makes me retain fluid.
I saw another thing about those wraps. I guess they have them places besides Walmart. They were talking about one with hommus for breakfast. How can I not try that!
