I am 4 1/3  years out (see dx below) all standard treatment for my dx TCH double mast etc.

Today a round pea like  bump popped up under armpt of cancer side, I cant believe it I was given the green light at last appt as I had stage 1 full herceptin and they felt since I made it to 4 years I was pretty good to go.

This lump popped up overnight it is size of large pea and right under the skin movable. Please tell me positive stories of this being nothing. I have not been sick not a possibility of infection (I dont think) in my mind it can only mean one thing right?

Please help

Mmm5, I don't have any experiences or knowledge to share that might help - but I just want you to know that you are in my thoughts during this scary time and you are not alone! Try not to let you mind go to the worst place - distract yourself and do whatever it takes until you have the real story. I do recall a woman from my support group having enlarged nodes a couple years after her active treatment and everything was benign and ok. So just keep breathing and I'm sure other sisters with more experiences will be by soon. Grace and peace to you!

    Hi mmm5,

If it popped up overnight then it is probably a swollen lymph node, I have had that before.  The lymph systems job is to clean the body of various toxins and fluids etc. Perhaps allergies or new meds?  All this can effect the Lymph System!

From what I can remember "was told years ago".  "C cells" doubles themselves in size every 100 days so unless you felt this before and now it's a lot bigger then it's probably not what your are afraid of.

First thing to do is make an appointment with your Doc and tell them you need to get in ASAP to have piece of mind.  I found a lump  6 weeks ago and am going thru Fat Graphs to build new foobs so I called up my Doc and got in right away.

He told me that it was nothing to worry about but wanted me to go to my PS as he would know if it was scar tissue.  Had it removed two weeks ago... turns out it was scar tissue and fat (all ok) but until you hear those words you do worry.  I'm glad that I went and had it checked out.

    Take care!

Hi mmm5- I had something similar. I called my BS and she ordered an ultrasound. It was a lymphocele. A sac of lymph fluid and nothing to worry about. I remember how worried I was and hope you can get in to your dr soon and get good news too!

Hang in there till the morning and insist that your breast surgeon or onc sees you. An ultrasound will give you answers. I think if it showed up that fast it may not be something to worry about.

Do you have any Ativan or the such?  Now would be a good time to take something to relax.  The other ladies are right in that if it just showed up, it's probably just a lymph node.  I have young children too and I know the feeling you are describing.  Tomorrow you'll be able to call your doctor and set something up.

Wishing you peace for this evening and hopes that all is okay.

So sorry you are having anxiety over this. Take a deep breath and know you will get some answers tomorrow when you call, your mo and insist on testing. I would agree with the above, the fact that it moves freely and came on so fast, makes you wonder about lymph nodes? Good luck, prayers headed your way & keep us posted!

Oh, mmm5, I just logged on and I've been thinking about you since I haven't come across any of your posts lately.  I sure didn't want to see this post!  I don't have much to add, but I'm going to agree with the other gals--it's probably not cancer if it popped up that quickly.  I'm pretty sure that you have checked over yourself within the last few weeks, so if it wasn't there then, I doubt if it could be anything bad now.  Please keep us updated.  Hugs and prayers being sent your way.  We all know how terribly stressful this.

Whoa nelly! Take a deep breath. If you don't have an anti anxiety medication, take a Benadryl, that works to slow down your anxiety really well. I have had bumps just like you were describing before, hard and pea sized, right on the armpit, and in every case it turned out to just be related to a clogged sweat gland. When one pops up, it is always under the skin and moveable.

When I did have cancer in my lymph node I had zero symptoms. I realize how scared you must be, and I have definitely had that sick to my stomach need to know what is going on NOW feeling. But given

You are four years out and had TCH (which is incredibly effective for early stage cancer) AND the green light from your doctor, I think your best bet for the night is to take a benadryl and go to sleep! I will look forward to your post telling us this was a false alarm. Sending good thoughts your way!

I have had this happen, I saw 3 different doctors and all agreed it was just a lymph node, and it did go down in size and almost disappear. it was NOT cancer.

I agree with an anti anxiety medication, benedryl is an excellent answer if you don't have a medication on hand.

Deep breathing from your belly also helps, we all "pant" and shallow breathe when we are upset, so try to slow down your breathing.

cancer was too much for my emotions, and I keep anti anxiety meds on hand...ask your doctor.

do you think it is a good sign that it is just beneath the skin and very movable?

Yes, I think it's a good sign.  I had cancer in my nodes with my original dx and they were deep.  I couldn't feel them, but my surgeon and onc could.  They weren't movable or just under the skin.  I did have a lump similar to what you describe show up in my "good" breast about a year after my original dx.  It was about the size of a bb, perfectly round, and movable.  I could "lift" it up a bit.  My onc said it is probably just a fatty lump so we just kept an eye on it.  Today, it's still there and still the same size.

Try not to worry too much.  A quick visit to your onc so he can check it out is in order, but it's probably nothing.

And, to answer your question in the Stage IV forum, no my mets did not present with swollen nodes or cancer in my nodes.  Haven't had any issues with any of my nodes so far.

mmm5, I felt around in my armpit (both the good side and the bad side) and I can feel little tiny lymph nodes.  I think because I'm thin.  They aren't quite the size of a pea, but maybe almost the size of a petite pea.  Do you think maybe this is what you are feeling?  Maybe your bra strap irritated one that is over a bone?  (those are the ones I can feel the easiest since they are right under the skin and on top of bone)

Do you have an appt today?

its definitely a pronounced lymph node it is poking through the skin right below the surface you can see the outline on the skin but size of small kidney bean.

I want to thank all of you last night you really helped get me through a bad night I read over your responses tried to calm myself down, took a bunch of advil (had no ativan, need to get some for nights like that) and slept a few hours.

I dont know if it is wishful thinking but it may feel a little less swollen today.

It has been a long while since such intense worry and it makes me cry to think how we all have suffered through this disease with such emotional and mental pain not to mention the physical. I want you all to  know how much I appreciate your quick responses and thoughtful time you spent with me. I am still so worried but feel so supported

I am 4 years out from diagnosis of DCIS, last year they called me CURED!  Last month my mamo after a full year, showed junk, including some sort of lump thing

biopsy came back all B9 but moli do I know how bad I was till all got resolved!!

stressed out so much I gave myself a full blown asthma attack!

yeah, this is the time that the anxiety meds are for

Oh dear, proud!! Breast cancer is NOT curable!!! That's why there is still "Run for the Cure" races and stuff like that. It can go into remission, but if they had told you that you were cured, of course you'd be shocked! I just think of myself in remission and find it's a more realistic place to be. They used to use that term years ago and then stopped. But I like it.

mmm5 - So sorry to read about your horrible night. At 4 1/2 years out from my dx, I also have calmed down, but something like this would send me over the edge also! I agree with everybody who doubts that a cancerous lymph node would present so quickly and in this manner, but I know that you won't be reassured until you get it checked. I'm sure you've already been on the phone making an appointment - I hope you can get in quickly and get an answer.

My thoughts and prayers are with you - I'll be checking in.

    Your friend, Sue

yeah, I know that but it is never really cured, only "absent" for a while,  In my case my surgeon was shocked that any junk could be appearing on my mamo as all was so good for 3 years.....back to every 6 month mamos from the one year they had me on.

oh well, I can tell you that I sleep at night knowing I did not argue about treatment and did all that the docs suggested (I read some postings of who refuse pieces of treatment but not me)

a friend of mine rejected radiation because her ball room dance instructor told her she would be too tired to dance~~~~not me did my full deal so if it ever comes back, then God must be made at me for something

    mmm5,

You - most liklely - have what is know as a "shotty" lymph node. Google it, it is pretty reassuring. I have one above my clavicle as a result of lymphedema.

Sure, it needs to be looked at, but since it is small and moveable, the probability is high that is just a wacky lymph node.

You are smart for listening to your body.

    HI Ladies

I got right in and it is NOT a lymph node she said all my lymph nodes look healthy. I had an US and she is 90 percent sure that it is foliculitis but have to go back next week. It is not cancer of a lymph the only "c" thing it could possibly be would be a local skin recurrance but she did not think so and said in her 12 years of practicing she had only seen one present this way.

She told me I could feel mostly relieved, however somehow I am not totally relieved. Thank you to all who came on just  to support my question am so appreciative  and so good to here from Sue and Weety my old friends from the Her2 thread!!

I really also appreciate all of you gals that came over here from the Stage 4 thread with such insightful and informative posts...so nice of you!

I don't think there is any need to start a semantics debate here..thanks

I'm SO glad you got right in and SO glad to hear this! And I understand that you are "somehow...not totally relieved." Are there plans to remove it? Or, if it is foliculitis, will it resolve itself?

Believe me, I've had my onc and wonderful PA check out several things - a rash on my bra line, pain in my abdomen, etc. I've walked around for days SURE that something horrible was going on. In other words, I understand your original post - "in my mind it can only mean one thing." It's just part of our new, less innocent, outlook on life, I guess.

    YAY! Best wishes to you!

I'm very happy to hear that you got in right away to see your Doctor and the news was good.

I've been on this roller coaster ride for 17 years and continue to do what I call "System Checks" when ever I feel anything funky ie. pain, headaches.. etc, generally in my case it's because I've just played 2 hours of racquetball and it's little wonder I'm sore ;p

It's when we get the good news that we start to breath again and remember to not take anything for granted.

We are in a constant state of dodging bullets!!

My mantra is "This too will Pass"... Hang in there, I've been thru the ringer twice and I still believe that I have a wonderful and happy life ahead of me with many happy memories ahead.

    Believe in the possibility!

Oh, gee.. . . folliculitis.  This stupid C makes us worry over so many dumb things.  Is folliculitis from shaving?

Do you stilll think that it has shrunk down a bit, like you said this morning?

I'm glad you got right in, and I'm relieved that they will look at it again next week.  Hope it goes away fast!
