big babies; higher bc risk to mom

Since big babies also put mothers at risk for type 2 diabetes, one wonders if there is a correlation.

Funnily enough, my mom had twins, though together we probably did not top 7 pounds...and mom did get diabetes (side effects from meds) but never cancer...died at 84.

    Interesting article and findings.



    My boys were 8'9". 8'11", and 9'3.5" . They are definitely considered large according to the sampling.

    I was not obese by a long shot. No complications. And they were healthy babies.



    Okay - an aside - My youngest was born making the precursor to WBC but after a couple days in ICU (and prayer across the nation) he was released as if nothing happened. He wasn't even on antibiotics in the ICU - they were 'watching' him.



    I have breast cancer at 48.



    My mom had 3 big babies as well. 9'10", 9'6.5", 9'5". She was also lean and fit. We were all healthy babies.



    To date no breast cancer for her.



    Who knows?

    The article states that big babies means high levels of estrogen. We all know what high levels of estrogen = ER+. This does not say every woman will get BC but it's a risk.

    My son was 9lb 12oz. I was dx when he was about 16 more old. I am not obese and have no other risk factors but brca. Actually both our families have enormous babies and no obesity... anything that can help guide women towards better screening is awesome.

    My son was 9 lb. 5 oz. I started neoadjuvant chemo the day before he turned 20.

    Just wanted to add my 2 cents. My daughter was almost 11 lbs and my son was almost 12 lbs...they are 2 and 1 right now and I was diagnosed strong er+ pr+ her2 +++ three weeks ago. Interesting theory.

    If I had a large baby(both of mine were under 6 lbs), I'd seriously consider participating in the Metformin trial or trying to convince one of my doctors to prescibe it for me.  The insulin resistance/type2 diabetes thing.

    My mom had BC at 63 - her babies were 12 lbs, 10 lb 10 oz, 9 lbs 10 oz, and 9 lbs 6 oz.  As a senior she is a type II diabetic.

     Her sister's babies were under 6 lbs and she got BC at 41.

    Mine were 7 lbs 11 oz and 9 lbs 3 oz (two weeks early)

    Coraleliz-I have not heard about this trial. I will have to research it. However, I am not Diabetic, nor was I during pregnancy,so I am not sure about it??

    My son weighed 9 pds 9 oz and I am thin. He was born right before I turned 41 and I was dx with BC at 45. I am ER +.

    Jennifer-having a large baby puts you at risk for developing diabetes in the future. I think there might be a corralation as wallycat stated. Probably some women can benefit from Metformin.     WOW!

    I was a skinny little size 5 when I got pregnant  31 yrs ago. My son was over 10 pounds and 23 in long. This dummy went natural too ( remember those days ?)Twenty hrs of labor with 5 of it pushing.

    Only recently, my endo dr. told me there is no doubt I had gestational diabtetes...UNdiagnosed.Nobody ever tested me when I was pregnant!

    I AM now on the metformin with NO SEs except for normal blood sugars.  My endo doc gave it to me after a  little persuading.
