Fear

I'm 24 and was just diagnosed with triple negative bc. My surgeon and oncologist can't seem to agree on what stage it is in, 2 or 3. Either way, I am terrified. I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me. I feel like there is no use for planning anything too far into the future. How did you (or do you) cope with the sheer amount of emotions involved? How do you maintain a positive attitude when things seem so bleak?

    It's not easy. We can all relate to the initial shock of diagnosis and fear of the unknowns. I had to make a conscious effort to push back the fear until I knew more. It is totally understandable that you are feeling this way. {{hug}}

    Ponied-

    We get all of our care in the San Diego area, but in Orange, near the Angels stadium, there is a doctor there that is among the best breast oncologists in the country.  We go to him for second opinions fairly constantly.  He is really good about saying, okay this makes sense, or hmm . . . think about this.  Google breastlink in Orange, CA.

    Living in the LA area gives lots of access to some of the best treatment facilities in the country.  It is good to have these sort of options.

    I would also mention this . . . I am a numbers guy and I cannot help to figure staging for the planning.  My wife struggles with just simply dealing with this all.  As a consequence, I have researched the staging and by and large it means nothing to your individual care.  I understand the idea of wanting to know where you stand.  However, I would caution you about getting wrapped around the axle with respect to staging.  I imagine since you are young, you are otherwise very healthy, this gives you a lot of options.  My advice would be to not even bother with it, and instead research treatment methods for women in their 20s.
