How long after surgery does radiation usually start?
How long after surgery do most get radiation? I had chemo first and then my surgery. Thanks. Lisa

I would also like to know the answer to this question. I am finishing chemo next Tuesday and my onc says I will need to wait 4-6 weeks to have surgery, so surgery should be in early July. I am hopeful to start rads late July, during the summer semester break, but I do not know if this is realistic.

my surgery was in May....and my radiation started the end of June.

I had my lumpectomy in Jan. and the radiation began in April. It was explained to me that the scars needed to heal before the radiation treatment is started. I did not have chemo.
-
Oh wow, that is quite a wait! Thank you for responding ladies.

My MX was 4/13 and started rads last week.

Last chemo april 23
Margins surgery may 24
Rads simulation june 12
Rads start june 18yh
I would have been able to have the surger sooner but there was schedule conflicts... Also i am 28 and heal fairly fast. -
I had lumpectomy and SNB on October 5th and had my first radiation treatment on November 30th.
I was so happy to have it done, the worst was having to go every day.
My skin held up great, just a few spots that really rubbed so I had to quit wearing a bra for about 3 weeks but now all is good. The only thing is that my left breast is slightly smaller than my right breast but that's okay!

Just wondered if anyone has started rads within 4 weeks of surgery?
-
I started my radiation treatments exactly 3 weeks after surgery. I think it's okay if you're healing well. My breast surgeon actually said I could start rads 2-3 weeks after surgery. Best of luck!

Hi,
I had my surgery April 13/2012, had some post op problems and my radiation will not be until about 3.5-4 months after my surgery. My RO states that they prefer that people start within 3 months of their surgery. Does anybody know the issue of starting after 3 months?

I am hoping I will be able to start 3-6 weeks after my surgery. I'm long past my out-of-pocket maximum for this year's insurance, and I want to have as much of this crap done by the end of the calendar year as possible.
