I had a BMX in Feb. of this year.  My BS wanted me to do the usual chemo, etc. in order to prevent recurrence.  I understand my choice.  I am going to a alternative doctor for my treatment which includes, diet, supplements, etc.  I just want to know what you feel I should do for tests in order to be sure I do not have a recurrence of cancer in any parts of my body.  What is your suggestion. I will be asking my alt. dr. this question but want the opinion of my sisters.  It has been almost six months since my BMX - when should I start checking for recurrence and what tests should I do on a regular basis.  When I asked my BS she just said to listen to my body and that everything is looking good so far.....I would like your opinion......(((hugs)))

Sadly, there are no tests that will determine with 100% certainty that your cancer will not return.

Yearly mammograms.  Some people do breast thermography.  Some do ultrasounds and other scans.

I had a BMX so mammograms are out.  I was thinking about a full body thermography as I am concerned about recurrence in any part of my body.

I do an annual CT scan and bone scan.

CT scan - I've had a BMX - where would they do a CT scan and also when they do a bone scan is that of your entire body?  I was also thinking that these types of tests should be done once a year.  Thanks Sweetbean.

Yes, both are entire body scans.  Last scans were squeaky clean.  My onc is one who only likes to do scans if there are symptoms, but I insisted.  I just need to know.

Thanks sweetbean...sounds like you are doing the right tests...let me ask you, what symptoms would there be if there was a recurrence???  I am going to mention this to my alternative doctor on my next visit.  My BS said that the symptoms would be pain and how we feel overall...that doesn't sound right to me.

barbiecom, you didn't have any treatments after the surgery?  What treatments is your alternative recommending?   Also, how did you go about making your decision to opt out of chem etc.  Are you her2 +.
