ADH diagnosis while on Tamoxifen?
I am just curious if anyone has had an ADH diagnosis while on Tamoxifen. I have just had my second ADH diagnosis within 2 years (one in each breast) and was told after my upcoming surgery that they will probably send me to an oncologist to start the Tamoxifen. Does the Tamoxifen completely prevent ADH while on the medicine?

Tamoxifen does not prevent ADH, it hopefully will reduce your risk of subsequent breast cancers (since an ADH diagnosis puts you at ~ 4-8 times higher risk than the general population of a future breast cancer diagnosis).

Hi February64, I had that question a few months ago too. I found out that there ARE cases of breast cancer even while taking Tamoxifen, unfortunately it doesn't lower the risk completely. It was helpful to me to visit the Tamoxifen and DCIS boards, and also check out some of the ways other women have coped with ADH. There's a lot of wisdom here and it can really help in making a decision.

no, it does not completely prevent it, but it does help to decrease the risk of LCIS, DCIS and invasive bc's by up to 50%.
I was diagnosed with LCIS ( a step further along the bc spectrum with double the risk of ADH (which is actually 4-5x; while LCIS is 8-10x) and took tamox for 5 years with minimal SEs, and have now taken evista for 3 years (also well tolerated)--I continue high risk surveillance; as my risk is further elevated by family history of bc (mom had ILC).

Hello sweetie, I had been on Tamoxifen for 5yrs without reoccurrence (Praise God) and I am a 18 yr SURVIVOR(Praise God)msphil (idc, stage2, 0/3 nodes, L mast, chemo and rads and 5 yrs on Tamoxifen)

I was told to start Tamoxifen after my diagnosis of ALH - chose not to go that route (I'm a worrier) I had PBMX - so now I don't have to have mammograms or take Tamoxifen - just another option!

I am new to the tamoxifen medication. I actually just started the medication today. I have a lesion that has potential for becoming breast cancer. Just kind of curious of how or what side effects everyone has had by taking the tamoxifen

Welcome, madams! That's a good question, I know some women will see it and respond here, and you can also visit the Hormonal Therapy board and there are many, many threads on Tamoxifen, because there are people starting on it every month. Hope you find it helpful.

Hi there!
I saw that on one of these threads someone was asking about the side effects experienced with Tamoxifen...my mother is a breast cancer survivor--first diagnosed at 36--had a mastectomy--breast cancer reappeared almost ten years later in one of her lungs--she had a lobectomy and was put on Tamoxifen for five years--that has been 16 years ago now (she is a 26-year survivor). She has had numerous side effects--but perhaps the most significant was her skin has become really thin (bruises and bleeds very easily now). It also affected her weight, and perhaps her joints. However, she is still here, and for that I am SO thankful and I know she is too.
She has just started a blog to share her story with others: www.faithhopeandlattes.blogspot.com. It is only two weeks old, so there are still lots of topics and issues to discuss...if you have a question for her please post a comment on the blog and we promise to reply.

I have been on Tamoxifen from April 2000 to April of 2005 then went on Armidex (sP)
Arimdex from April 2005 to Nov. 2007, then went back on Tamoxifen and I am still on it.
My right breast that had radation in April to June of 2000.
Started dimpling in and the skin looks like an orange. All Dr's say it is nothing, but on the web site it says dimpling is new breast cancer. What do you think? I had two kinds of breast cancer in the right breast, and at the same time breast cancer in the left.
