Calling all TNs

Jan69,
They're calling for 104 today up here in eastern Oregon/western Idaho. I'm hibernating until September!
I only go outside in the evening, to water the garden. Of course, that's prime mosquito time, and they are warning about West Nile again, this summer. So it's pile on the insect repellant and be sticky, icky in the heat. Yuck!
I caught myself whistling the other day, when I was picking up the dog poo in the yard, after watering the garden. That struck me as humerous and WONDERFUL...because it was part of my pre-BC "normal" life!!!
Isn't it nice when we can get to the point where we complain about the weather, ants, mosquitoes, dog piles and all the other non-BC related irritations in life???!!! Hell-yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the calming advice. It is great to see so many are survivors out there. I did look at the internet but am being soothed by the fact the many of you are saying don't.
Since a couple of you asked I got the name Tookybum from my brother who is 13 years my senior. My mother was very ill when she had me and didn't come out of the hospital until I was 3 months old. So it fell to my brother and sister to watch me while my father was farming. My brother said to my sister one day it was impossible "to keep her bum" clean. Hense the nickname. He still calls me it even though I am 41 years old!
I have my MO tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I will have more of a sense of direction going into the weekend.

Gemmy,
That pic is this week @ 5.5 mos post-chemo.
My hair actually started growing back during the end of Taxol. I could feel nubbins, but couldn't see anything. I was convinced that it was coming back transparent! Then a shadow finally appeared, and from there it took off.
I lost my eyebrows and lashes at the same time. My eyebrows came back thick and dark, but have now lightened up. I had a lot of white before, and unfortunately, they look like they will be back to white, crazy old-man eyebrows once again. My lashes suddenly started growing - looked like I had eyeliner on one day, because they were very short, but even. Then they started lengthening. Oh no - noticed this week they are back to short again. I've heard that they can cycle through this growth/loss several times before they decide to stay put permanently.
I am shocked that my hair is so thick, now. I hope that stays. I was starting to thin in the front, pre-BC, just like my Mom and Grandma, so this has been wonderful!
My hair - all of it, everywhere - came back so dark. I was born with very dark hair, but turned mousey-brown later in life. It is like I went through infancy and grew back to adulthood with my hair! All my white pre-BC hair is back, now (No - that's not highlighting, just old white hair!!!) And it is straight - as before BC. Just swirly from the noticeable growth pattern.
Landscaping time - all the "bad" hair is back and flourishing - vacation is over. Oregon is famous for the Sasquatch/Big Foot...there goes I without tweezing and shaving!
Hang in there, Gemmy...your turn is coming!

New TN here dx on 6/7/12 one month after my 42 birthday. I start chemo next week (7/17/12). The plan is 6 rounds of cytoxan and taxotere every 3 weeks followed by total mx both sides. Hopefully, I will not need any radiation. I too had a clean mamagram within the year but found a lump my self, it measures 1.9 cm. My grandmother and mother had breast cancer. Not sure what kind grandmom had but my moms was totally different it was something like" calificatios" at the age of 50. She had a mx on the one side no chemo or radiation and that was 17 years ago and she is fine. I tried to argue with the doctor that I did not need chemo but they said without chemo I would not be here in 5 years. I did have the genetic testing done and it came back negative, so I guess that is some good news.

At the end of the tax year, the tax office sent an inspector to audit the books of a local hospital. While the officer was checking the books, he turned to the CFO of the hospital and said,? "I notice you buy a lot of bandages. What do you do with the end of the roll when there's too little left to be of any use?"
Good question," noted the CFO. "We save them up and send them back to the bandage company and every once in a while, they send us a free roll."
"Oh," replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his obnoxious way. "What about all these plaster purchases? What do you do with what's left over after setting a cast on a patient?" Ah, yes," replied the CFO, realising that the inspector was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. "We save it and send it back to the manufacturer and every so often they will send us a free bag of plaster."
"I see," replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could
fluster the know-it-all CFO. "Well," he went on, "What do you do with all the remains from the circumcision surgeries?"
Here, too, we do not waste," answered the CFO. "What we do is save all the little foreskins and send them to the tax office, and about once a year they send us a complete prick." -

Check out Ann Hathaway's cute new pixie cut. She had to cut it for her role in Les Miserables. By the way, she said she cried when it was cut! Now I feel like my hair is really long!!!
-
Good grief, I made that a whole lot smaller in my draft and it came out so big!!!
-
Isn't she the cutest eh? I will be so happy when my hair is that 'long'

-
me too! Wonder how long that will take?! Oh well, nothing I can do but wait!
-
Tazzy - I have the hair...but how do I go about getting her face???!!!
Oh, well ~ Shar

I met one of your triple negative sisters on Friday. I am triple positive. I noticed a woman my age (40's) she had a drugged deer in the headlights look (from chemo THEN surgery) still had drains in.
Her sister was with her and was telling me she was triple negative and going into a depression. I directed her this way and told her what a good sisterhood there is amongst those who share similar diagnoses. I sure hope she comes here. Her sister thought it would be good for her. If it was you who I talked to at the Mayo in Phoenix and you live in NM, message me. I didnt get your email address but sure wanted to help in anyway I could.
I know you will all make her welcome when she decides to come here.
-
Nora az,
I had that drugged deer in the headlights look for four months after dx and chemo. Occasionally still feel that way.
Love that photo of Anne Hathaway w/ pixie cut, can't wait for my hair to be that long. On my head that is, the leg hair seems to be growing just fine, have to shave it daily.
Browerl, we are the same age at dx. Never thought in a million years I'd be dealing with BC at 42. I bet you didn't either. Sorry you have to go through this. This is the place to get info and support and cheer. Wish I would have joined sooner.
T -
Gemmy1, agreed I never thought of bc this early even with a family history. I wish I was further along in my treatment like you, my jouney is just beginning.
-
Spica - I hear ya. I used to take pictures of celebs to my hairdresser for their haircuts... just thinking that I may walk out looking just a little similar.. yeah no such luck. I think your hair looks fab.
-
Tazzy - I did the same thing! my hairdresser said thanks for bringing me a picture of a beautiful lady, now what do you want to do with your hair! LOL
-
Oh that pixie cut! Way too cute and so doable for hair that is growing back in.
BernieEllen--Bless you once again. How do you come up with them!
Shar--The heat does make us house-bound. And those mosquitos just top it off. Now that I'm feeling strong enough to take on the world again, it's just too damm hot.
Browerl--Welcome to this band of women who help each other through thick and thin. We work with compassion, information, love, understanding, friendship, and loads of humor. We are all strong survivors, just like you.
Annie (CS)--What's on the menu?

Gemmy...I pretty much was too. Thank goodness after a year of infusions I think I am so far in the clear. I had a scare of metastisis two months ago but it turned out to be cocci i am dealing wirh from my immune system being low from the chemo. So thankful.

Sorry I've been MIA. Having issues with the landlady over inadequate A/C for 2 mos. now. All my grand plans of suing the hell out of them, turned into me deciding the stress of it all was killing me - maybe literally, and deciding to cut my losses and buy my way out early and walk away. My cats and I fled last weekend and have been living in my brother's air-conditioned basement. Today, I landed a new apartment that is twice the size of the one I had. I can't move in until the beginning of Sept. though. I cannot believe the relief from the stress - I feel so good!
-
Jan69 thanks for the welcome but I must say it does suck to be a part of your group but I am glad you guys are here, I think I am going to need all of you to get past this.
-
Brower - I Had my first treatment on June 19, and it was really really scary..... This group of woman far exceeded any support I could have imagined. When you have a question, need a laugh, need a shoulder, want to share the good the bad, it all happens here. When you are scared and need someone to talk you off the ledge, theres no better place than this to come to. You will make it through treatment, and we will all be there with you......
I don't have a lot of experience yet, but I have a lot of compassion and freindship to share. -
Hi browerl...welcome. I know it sux to b here but you are really going to love the support and help you will get from these extra special ladies. Ask anything and within minutes you will get some answers. Take things one day at a time. Chemo should not be as bad as you have imagined it. Take the meds on time and your SE's should be minimal. We will be here every step of the way with you holding your hand through it all!
Not sure who asked but My Onc does a series of blood tests including the CTC (circulating tumor cell) alternating with a CA 27-29. My ctc came back negative showing no evidence of circulating tumor cells in the body. My Onc also does scans to check for metastasis even without symptoms. I am glad that she has no problem doing the scans. One of my chemo sisters gets no blood checks or scans.

Just finally ending a long day, so a quick note.
Welcome browerl and Nora. Just ask away Browerl and we'll all do our best to answer.
Good news today, Mammo is clear.
Cocker my little friend, always thinking I'm up to no good! Well actually I did go on a date.... and the food was great but the company was divine!!! Maybe if you're really, really good (and beg a little) you might hear more. *stifles big a** grin* -
Welcome to the new ladies.
A woman walks into a shop that sells expensive Persian Rugs.
Looking around, she spots the perfect rug, walks over and inspects it.
As she bends to feel the texture of the rug she farts loudly.
Very embarrassed she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed her 'little accident' and hopes a sales person does not pop up right now.
As she turns back, there standing next to her is a salesman. "Good day Ma'am, how may we help you today?"
Very uncomfortably she asks, "How much does this rug cost?"
He answers, "Lady if you farted just touching it, you're gonna crap your pants when you hear what the price is."

Good Evening Ladies
Lory48- sorry you are going through all this crap but I hope you get some answers soon from your Doc's.
Kathy - you are one crazy gal that I just love. You never fail to raise my spirits no matter how low they are. Ok I'm begging and begging and I have also paid you a compliment so spill the beans pal lol.
Jan69 - pack some warm clothes cause you will need them here but hey summer is coming. How lovely baby quail. Must be really gorgeous to see them grow, lucky you.
Spica16 - great - no nausea. I will make sure I keep moisturising though taxol has made all my skin dry, sore and itching like mad. I must be really allergic to taxol what with the problems of my hands as well.
Tookybum - your brother must love you to still call you your childhood name and to also keep your bum clean in the first place. Wonderful brother.
LuvRVing - wouldn't mind Anne Hatherways pixie cut or face - just beautiful.
Nora - we sure will make your friend welcome. Just hoping she will find us.
Tazzy - I used to take pics of really nice hair styles to the hairdressers but never once came out looking like the picture. Guess it would have been hard for her to do with my face lol.
Jan69 - dinner tonight was my fellars Friday special. Poached egg, bacon, tomatoes, hash browns, litle sausages. Just like a big breakfast but it was Friday nights tea.
Mags - woo hoo your CT came back clear. Well done. Good that your Onc will get straight onto things, needed or not. I don't think mine will do tests without symptoms.
Bernie - lol. I needed that.
Inmates gone AWOL again. I'm waiting to see how she is. Where is our Hope. I do hope she is doing ok. Titan must be exercising.
Heather - hope you feel better today. Have a nice rest this weekend and do nothing with a nice glass of wine and a good book/magazine.
Well ladies. Cleaning day tomorrow. The old fellar will be cleaning out the cafe making it spick and span so I will be able to get onto mine in peace with Chloe's help no doubt. She snuck out today and I caught her down the road, pooing of all things on the grass of a newly built house. The owner was not very happy then she quickly ran home and hid before I could smack her arse. The litle shit, pardon the pun.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Lots of hugs. Annie
-
Hope60- Thinking of you.......Hugs. xx

Is anyone still reading THAT book?

-
Hey, Cocker - I had a nice date yesterday, too! And since you were so nice to Kathy...and are begging to know, I'll show you a picture of her date...
Yes, indeed...it's Kathy (left) and me (I know, not quite as juicy as you were expecting) in an Asian restaurant in Boston near Dana Farber late yesterday afternoon. I got there first and ordered a blood orange margarita (quite yummy, I might add) then Kathy walked in and we both knew instantly that we were meant for each other, especially since she immediately ordered the same cocktail - I had her at "margarita"
We talked like old friends, ate some really fabulous food, learned all about each other, fed quarters to our parking meters, then kissed and hugged and promised to do it again. I hope you're not disappointed that it wasn't a "50 Shades of Grey" experience for Kathy (yup, I read all three of those naughty books) but then, I'm already spoken for! And I don't think they serve pink champagne!!!Bernie, Bernie, Bernie...you make me LOL every morning when I read your funny joke. It's a great way to start my morning!!!
Kathy - my son the poker player ended his night at Caesar's last night with 440k chips. They don't have online updates of this tournament, but I'm guessing that's a pretty good starting stack for his Day 2. For the rest of you, my son makes his living playing Texas Holdem Poker, usually online but he's in Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker and entered a big tournament at Caesar's. And Kathy loves to play live at Foxwoods Casino. I will probably meet up with her at Foxwoods although I'm more of a slot queen.
I hope everyone has a great day!
-
I love that photo. You both look so good! Luv, hope your son makes it to the Final Table at the big tourney. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.
There is so much going on here....Sorry I cant keep up but i do check in everyday.
Hope, Inmate, Beccad....how are you ladies doing?
-
Love the pic!
Michelle..congrats to your son! We had a local guy play in the World Series of Poker last year.
Hmmm..I think I feel the need to go to a casino tonight....maybe Friday the 13th will be lucky for me!
Have a great weekend every one...and welcome to our new ladies....!
