Do you all remember the young girl from Mexico that began this journey with us? I have often thought of her since she stopped posting, but tonight she has posted again!
http://community.breastcancer.org/ubbthr...SID=#Post309229
Thought you would all like to know.
*susan* -
I seem to have missed a page of postings grhhhhhhhh.
Hopeful when you see the jar stick a big smiley face on it. One of my students worked at Asda (supermarket) and they have smiley face stickers I have them stuck on a lot of things. BRILLIANT NEWS Hopeful.
Susan thank you for sharing Cerridwens update with us No age is a good age to deal with this but 21 years of age???? same age as my son.
I would like to share some good news with you please. My Oncologist rang me this afternoon to tell me that she has had approval to give me Herceptin and I start on 16 May. I do not want to have a Hickman line in but do you think I will have a PICC line for this?
Leanne, always in my thoughts. I have had the pleasure of my 2 grandsons today I AM SHATTERED! The 4½ year old just doesnt draw for breath! Share your beautiful little boys a change of scenery will help both you and them.
Liezel I am sorry I missed your birthday glad you had a good one. I joined Weight Watchers tonight I have put on nearly 2 stone!
Is anyone aware of the television programme What not to wear? If you do I will tell you why I want to know.
Sandra from the UK -
Sandra,
I have to admit that I secretly watch "What not To Wear" with my daughter. Can't wait to hear why you want to know.
*susan* -
Sandra, Hoorah!!! for the Herceptin. Are you going to do it weekly or every 3 weeks?
My diet going well. I had a weigh in yesterday, and after a week, I have lost 2.3 kg!! What a relief! Another 10kg to go though! I'll actually be happy with just another 8kg. Good luck with weight watchers Sandra. Do you have to weigh your food as well? I am allowed 135g of protein and another 135g of veg for lunch, and it goes up to 145g for Supper. Not much!! They did say that I can have more protein rather than veg though. They try to keep your sugar count down with this diet, and apparently protein encourages release of growth hormone to boost your metabolism. (I think so. Chemo brain still very much intact!)
Keep Well! -
Liezel I will be doing Herceptin every 3 weeks anything I should watch out for?
Weight Watchers work on a point system, depending on your weight depends on how many points you can have. I have been busy making acceptable soup and Granola today should keep me going for a few days. I am going to be careful only to eat good stuff this time and not rely on weight watchers pre-packed stuff (not good for you).
Sandra from the UK -
Good Luck with Weight Watchers Sandra. Let us know how it goes.
Herceptin really is a breeze. After the first tx, I developed a high fever. I called the onc. on duty, and they said that "flu like symptoms" are normal, and I should just take some paracetomol. It worked. I took it before my last treatment, and did not have a problem again. I do have mild flu symptoms for a day or two after, but not too bad. Good Luck!
Have a good weekend! -
I sure have missed this list of wonderful people! I have been very busy with the remodel, starting back to chemo and starting back to work....
Each and every day I say prayers for my cybersisters and a special one for Leanne....in her time of need...
It is wonderful you now have someone to help you with things...that is what helped me get along so well during my treatments.
I have decided to bite the bullet so to speak and not take the easy road this time in my life (not that I have ever anyway...LOL). I am hitting the real estate business very hard latly and have several things set to close here shortly. I decided I will just have to make my health insurance a priority and if I need to pay for a higher premium I just need to sell another house..LOL
The bathroom is finished and we have started patt of the new kitchen cabinets....I hope by the end of the weekend my kitchen will be a little more put back together.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Tina -
Hi all
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. It is lovely here today- very sunny and warm and not at all like a typical winters day!
I (finally) had my chemo yesterday-YAY!! I am feeling pretty good so far apart from the usual fatigue. Scott has his 2 boys from his previous marriage here this weekend so we are a busy household! (Yes, between us we have 4 boys!!) Thankfully he has taken 3 of them out for a few hours, the baby is asleep and I can relax.
Sandra, great news about the herceptin! I have found it very tolerable. Occasionally i will get the tiredness/flu type feeling that evening but that is it. A very easy drug I have found. I have mine run over 90 minutes which seems to suit me. Yes know of 'what not to where'- do tell us why you have asked??
I am interested in the book you mentioned. Will have to keep my eyes out for it.
Congratulations to those of you who have embarked on the weightloss journey. I was thinking of doing the same thing until the new round of chemo came up.
I was going to write a rather long post today but am exhausted so will love and leave you all.
xoxo -
I missed you all last weekend and I've had a busy week at work.
Leanne,
I'm glad you're feeling well and you're having a relaxing afternoon even with a house full of little boys and a new puppy.
Ever since our time zone experiment, I try to picture what you're doing around the other side of the world, so while it's still Friday evening here in NY, it's Saturday afternoon down by you...not to mention winter! Isn't the internet amazing.
I was happy to see the posting by Cerridwen. I've thought about her over the months.
Nice to hear from you, too, Tina.
Okay Sandra, what about "What Not to Wear"?
Here's my latest: I had an appt. with my gyno this afternoon, so I have a scrip for a mammogram of my right breast. That will certainly never seem routine again.
On Monday, I have an appt. with the dermatologist. Remember those pesky little spotts I had biopsied a couple of weeks ago? Well, one of them came back with "suspicious" cells, so I have to go back to have it checked again.
Oh, and I'm scheduled to appear in traffic court Monday night to contest my speding ticket. The fun never ends.
I hope you all will have a lovely weekend.
Peggy
(anybody have a margarita today for Cinco de Mayo?) -
Hello to all my lovely Sept chemo sisters
This is me now with a bit of hair, I started back to work 4 weeks ago, and now I am back to my normal hours of 8.30 - 3pm, and it is going fine.
I've been on Arimidex now for 5 weeks, and apart from a few aches and pains in my legs, its going okay.
I wish you all well
Hugs
Maxine -
Hope everyone is feeling well,
I finished radiation in February. My breast (lumpectomy) is very sore, as is my side and underarm (nodes removed), more than after chemo. I have my first post surgery (my surgery was last July) mammogram coming up in June, and I am concerned it will be painful on the affected breast. Has anyone had this experience.
I am taking tamoxifen and find my appetite has increased significantly.
Leanne, wishing you the best.
Linda -
Hi Tina our bathroom is also finished and I am really pleased with it except the tap stops our (tilt and turn) window opening this is a fire escape and good to get out of to clean front, upstairs windows been waiting for about 4 weeks now for the bathroom people to come and rectify this. Typical, I have paid them and now they dont want to know.
I have finished Jane Tomlinsons story she was given 6 months to live 6 YEARS AGO! However she ran all those marathons and things I shall never know.
Peg the speeding offence is of no consequence more concerned about your suspicious cells I know you will keep us posted.
What not to Wear watch this space!
It is tipping it down of rain here and quite cold we have had a few sunny days.
I am OK but I still feel like an old lady my bones, particularly my knees still ache. Linda my op arm aches and hurts more also.
I have been invited to attend a team meeting at work on 26 May I may just go and get over meeting everyone again.
Try and enjoy your weekend Leanne I cant stop thinking how quiet your household must be with 4 boys!!
Sandra from the UK
PS: I am still struggling with my photo still too large. -
hi all
just aquick one to let you know i am heading back into hospital as i've caught a nasty stomach bug from my son. Can't keep water down and its been nearly 24hrs so off i go......
fingers crossed its not a long stay
xo -
Oh Leanne - try and have a rest whilst in the hospital.
Looking forward to seeing your next post - hopefully not too long.
Sandra from the UK -
Leanne,
I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that you are rehydrated and back home in no time at all.
*susan* -
Hi lovely ladies
Well I am home again! Just a quick stay this time (thankfully) with a very nasty gastro bug. Ugh. Toben had it Monday afternoon/night and within an hour of him stopping I started! Unfortunately comined with my chemo on Friday it hit me a lot harder. A few hours on a drip for fluids and some antibiotics saw me feeling a bit better. Now I am home and resting.
Tomorrow is scan day (results next week) and port being placed Friday so long as I am well.
Do any of you read many other posts? I am just wondering as I often 'lurk' all over the place and have been noticing some awfully toned posts lately. I just wanted to say that I am so glad I have my sept sisters where I know I can say whatever I like without fear of being shot down, insulted, etc. I was quite shocked to see some of the carryon and it made me thankful for my 'haven'!
Must go as Scott has gone to pick up kids from kindy and the puppy is eating my shoe. Oh the fun..
xoxo -
Leanne, you are right. There has been some stuff appearing that we aren't used to.
The boards do provide us with a place to

It is important to express fears, concerns, disappointments, joys, excitements and sorrows, as well as to receive advice, but without judgement and criticism. The Sept Sisters ARE great! Keep on coming!
Glad the infection could be treated without too long a stay in the hospital.
The puppy sounds like it is bringing extra work, but lots of joy as well.
Stay safe! -
Peggy -
how did the skin check go?
What about the speeding ticket outcome?
Keep us posted! -
Hi
Well the day has arrived when I finally get THE scan. A bit nervous (okay a LOT) but since I am not getting any results til next week you would think I wouldn't be nervous til then! I am liking living in "no news is good news' world and want to stay there. I just can't contemplate this NOT working. It has to. That's all there is to it.
love to you all!
xoxo -
Leanne,
I am rooting for GREAT scans. For distractions until the results come back, perhaps the children and dog? :-0
love right back at ya'
*susan* -
Leanne, positive thoughts are being sent to the scan room for good results.
I have been up the garden this afternoon with my 2 grandsons. We made a tent out of old sheets, we used an upturned linen basket for a table, etc etc etc. The neighbours 2 granddaughters watched enviously over the fence, so they got invited to join in just like I used to do with mine when they were small. Ok Im shattered now, but it is good to enjoy the little ones. It is good to see a little sun after all the rain.
Peg I am anxious for your news too.
Sandra from the UK -
Hello all,
I keep reading but not posting (one of mine disappeared apparently into cyberspace...).
Leanne,
I am constantly thinking of you and praying. You are such a strong lady!!! My whole family is praying for you in church!!! I want you to have the scans of all scans saying shrinkage, the medicine works!!!, we see improvement!!! I soooo hope it's going to be alright!!!
Peg,
I hope nothing bad, "just" have them take it out..
It is good to read you all, since I'm "flying" through posts, almost to scared to linger longer...makes sense?? No!!! I am a little depressed lately to see so many ladies with mets.
But I always love to read in this thread!!!
God Bless -
I just got home from work. Another busy week, but I'm looking forward to a 3 day weekend! I have to help my younger daughter get ready for 2 proms! Tomorrow she's going to her boyfriend's Senior Prom, and Saturday they're going to her Junior Prom. Luckily they go to different schools and she is happy to wear the same dress.
Thanks, everybody, for the concern about my skin spot. I'll admit I was a little nervous. It turns out the cells were "atypical", NOT cancer, and the doctor just wanted to make sure she got all the pigment. The nurse who called me definitely made it sound worse.
As for my speeding ticket, I pleaded down to a parking violation and paid a fine, so I wouldn't get points on my license.
Leanne,
You know you have my good wishes for good news on those scans.
Hey Maxine,
Love the hair! I'm glad to hear that work is going okay and you're having minimal problems with Arimidex. I hate that sluggish feeling it gives me, but once I start moving I'm fine.
Sandra,
Can I come and play in your garden? Your playhouse sounds like fun.
I hope all is well with all of you this weekend.
Anybody have special plans for Mother's Day? Do you international gals celebrate Mother's Day or something like it?
Love, Peggy -
Oooh Peg - I am so pleased to read your post. You would be welcome in my garden anytime! The fine, bad luck but as we know there are more important things to worry about than money.
We do have Mother's day - I had better go and check the date.
Try and enjoy the weekend ladies.
Speak soon.
Sandra from the UK -
Hi all
Mothers Day is here in Australia tomorrow (Sunday). The 2nd Sunday of May is our 'day'. Went out today and bought some pyjamas- very mummy of me!!
I rang my onc late Friday afternoon to see if he had heard anything of my results yet but alas....not yet. Fingers crossed we hear soon and put me out of this misery!! Some days I am very positive and others not so much. Time will tell.
Well I was due to have my picc line taken out and my port put in on Friday but got cancelled late Thursday....AGAIN. There are more urgent cases than mine at the moment and since I have my picc I can waitl apparently. A bit of a pain with all these damn delays but what can I do.
Nothing else new to report but mainly wanted to say thank you as always for all your prayers. I believe they do help!
xoxo -
I have been absent a bit....I am now into number 4 (8 overall) of weekly taxol. It has hit me kind of hard and I am having a lot of pain. The doctor put me on neurotin and I took my first dose last night. I think I am all caught up on my sleep (slept 8 hours up for 2 slept 3 more...got up after noon!) I am still attempting to go into the office some (my business partner has been going out of his way to make sure I have rides when I need them). My other half has been so swamped at work that he has not been able to help when he wants to. Part of the down side of owning your own business. Although he just did another contract for major amounts of money over they next 12 months! He is so neat...he is for all accounts...a blacksmith. He makes all the fancy handrails, doors, fences, ect...in the multimillion dollar houses around Austin, TX. He has done several for celebrities and famous people.
I am looking forward to June 7th....my last taxol!
For the first time in my life my weight is bothering me a lot...this is the heaviest I have ever been...my daughter and I are going to start walking but I have to be careful with my heart now....
Each and every one of you are on my prayer list...but especially you Leanne...sending you good thoughts for your upcoming results. -
Well, I hope you all had a very happy Mothers' Day - as mothers yourselves, or grandmothers, or daughters.
Cause for celebrations indeed! -
Tina, I'm sorry that you're having a difficult time with taxol. I hope the remaining weeks go fast.
Yesterday I met with a group from bc.org in Rhinebeck, NY for lunch. Most of the women were a few years out and were doing great. What a lovely group of women and families. I posted some pictures on the Sharing Photos forum (Northeast Gathering) if you want to check them out. (and there's a picture from Sharon's Prom last night)
I hope everybody has a lovely relaxing Mother's Day! -
Happy Mother's Day to all [well, those that are mothers, anyhow]
It is so cold and rainy here in the northeast that it is hard to be buoyant. As my year 'found my lump and began a journey through the medical system' anniversary approaches, I don't really know how I want to acknowledge it.
What are you folks doing?
Today the kid returns home from college for the summer and I am gearing up for what could be a difficult transition for her, and preparing myself for the sharing of the car! Amazing how often my car is the object of desire! :-)
So glad to read updates from members of our group. We been through a lot since September and even though I am technically done with the active treatment, it is important to keep this support system going for those who aren't.
Take care all,
*susan* -
Hi all
Mothering Sunday in the UK was on 26th March 2006. I looked up the history of Mothers day and thought I would share my findings .
History of Mothering Sunday
Most Sundays in the year churchgoers would worship at their nearest parish or "daughter church".
In olden times it was considered important for people to return to their home or "mother" church at least once a year. So each year in the middle of Lent, everyone would visit their "mother" church.
As the return to the "mother" church became an occasion for family reunions when children who were working away from home returned. (It was quite common in those days for children to leave home to work in service from ten years of age.)
The majority of historians think that it was this return to the "Mother" church which led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants, or as apprentices, being given the day off to visit their mother and family.
This special day has now become a time when people give thanks to their mothers and offers an opportunity to express both love and thanks for the work that they do.
© Beacon Support Services Ltd. 2004.
Leanne, thoughts to you during this waiting period go play with the puppy and listen to the laughter of those lovely (most of the time) little boys of yours.
