Yep, I can see it!!  I know what you mean about petting your head LOL!  My cat jumps on my lap for his head rubs and meows quite loudly because I'm cutting into his time.

For those of you with chemo curls, my hair had always been stick straight, and then when it came in after chemo, I looked like a deranged poodle! My hair was so curly I thought it would never straighten again. I am now two years PFC, and my hair has some wave, but it's no longer crazy curl. It's now close to shoulder length, but I am going to get it trimmed this week. It's been so hot in eastern NC and it's driving me crazy! Happy hair growing to all.

I second what Rocket said.  When I first had chemo 19 years ago, my only slightly wavy and thin hair grew in thick and curly!  I loved it!  Eventually it reverted to its old self.  I am hoping for a repeat this time (thick and curly) but right now, I'd just be happy to have coverage!

    Hi JoanQuilts and everybody,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that I now have peach fuzz all over my head at last, eight weeks PFC. I can't stop touching it, and all of a sudden the bald head is not bothering me anymore. My daughter got married last week, and on the wedding day I was helping and doing things with no head covering whatsoever. It was too hot, and I put my wig on at the last moment, a very cute, lightweight, cool wig that makes me feel modern and sassy. It is so good to know that I will eventually have hair again - yay!!!!!

I am 12 weeks post chemo and my hair has grown so thick.  I never expected it to come in so well....I get asked when I am out and about "who my hair dresser is".......I admit that I lost my hair with chemo and it grew back exactly as in my photo.  I am on the left--taken with one of my friends that took me to chemo and radiation treatments.  I am thankful to finally have eyebrows..eyelashes and hair....

Slak and others, please PM me if you want to add your data. I will keep going until I have more responses.

FYI, I am almost 2 years PFC and had a little wave before. I had the soft baby hair at first, straight and light, but as it grew in it got a little darker and then looked like the greased wave style of the 1920s! The longer it got, the curlier it got.  The tight curls lasted for at least a year and loosened up over time. I just had a haircut on the weekend and thought all the curl would be gone, but I still have a little left. I will miss it! I think the next haircut will be the last of the curls and back to the wave. Just be patient, it will come.

    Happy hair growing!

Rocket - thanks for the encouragement.  I know I'm supposed to be happy just to have hair, but I really didn't need this much curl to be happy  :-)

Here I am, just at 7 months PFC.

    And at 4 months PFC:

MizMarie....you look great...what fantastic hair growth in just 3 months!

Are you still using the Herba-shine? At your suggestion I used it and i was so happy with the results. It actually lasted longer than 28 washes.

I meant to mention that I was going through some old pictures with my Mom yesterday.  I can across one of my sister and I that she had done and I'm about a year old.  I have a little more hair at that time than I do now LOL!

My hair is returning in spite of Herceptin.

I finished Carboplatin and Taxatere 6 months ago and continue with Herceptin. My hair began its return trip about 3 months ago. I'd heard the chemo needed to work its way out of the system before the hair would return. Now I have a nice, thick head of straight, white hair coming in (it was white when it left, too). It started with some light fuzz. Now its serious, about an inch, which is a lot of hair when you've been bald. I'm seriously considering keeping my hair very short. I've already had it trimmed twice.

I don't think Herceptin has slowed the hair growth at all. Unfortunately, I'm back to shaving my legs and underarms.

Hello all!  Thanks for all the wonderful pictures, you all look fabulous and it's so exciting to see the progress.  I am 15 wks PFC, still on Herceptin alone, and mine has taken off lately.  I started taking Biotin and I really think it has helped.  I have enough to do a little spike on top.  I went to work topless last week because it was like 100 degrees here!  I still feel a little self-conscious and wear a hat when walking around where patients can see me but for the most part I am going topless.  It feels absolutely wonderful!  I will try to get the courage up to post a pic soon.

Hi Ella, yes - I still use the Herba-shine, and am in need of a new application.  I've been happy with it, but mMy hair does not hold DIY haircolor very well.  I am almost ready to call my stylist for an appointment; I wanted a little more length before I committed to a trim, but I'm thinking now that maybe having it thinned would reduce the bulk and make it feel less like I am wearing a helmet.  Seriously - my hair is so dense it doesn't budge in the wind.

Thank you all for your kind comments!

Miz Marie and Bonseye, you guys look great!  Always great to see that the hair comes back so nice!

Myleftboob, funny about comparing your hair to yourself at one!  I look at the photos of my kids too, i am at about the same point they were when they were 6 months old.  Feels about the same too, pet pet pet.

Kellogs, dont be shy love to see a photo.  Thats great you can go topless already!

I just saw an interview with Anne Hathaway; she has a new short haircut that I really like.  Before chemo I had my shoulder length hair cut similar to Michelle Williams, and while I liked that a lot too, now I am looking forward to down the road (probably January, since my last tx will be September 23....) when I can get Anne's cut!  This picture isnt' exactly the best one I've seen of her (the paparazzo got her with her tongue sticking out, lol) but you can get a good look at the cut.  Hopefully this link works.

    Gemmie,

Love your buzz cut.  I got one too when handfuls of hair began falling out on day 16.  I feel like GI Jane now.  How close did you go?  I asked to go 1/4" but I think some areas are longer.  I cried during the buzz cut but got over it and actually my head feels cooler in this summer heat.

It is amazing how I started to shed alot exactly on day 14 then 2 days later the handfuls came out.  I took a trip to the midwest over the 4th so I wanted to look as normal as possible otherwise I would have shaved it sooner.  I really recommend getting the buzz cut.  The handfuls of hair came off the back first and thankfully I cut it before the top came off.

It was so weird to anticipate the hair loss.  I kept testing it by gently pulling on sections and it was intact all the way till day 14.  Pyschologically though I kept thinking maybe it won't fall out.

I go for treatment 2 tomorrow.  Last time I iced my fingers and toes and haven't had the nail or tingling problems yet.  Does that come with subsequent treatments?  I am hoping to escape those side effects with the icing but I guess I will wait and see.

Still have the eyebrows and lashes.  Could anyone tell me when to expect those to go?

I don't have a picture to post, but I will be 11 months PFC next week.  I  just had my hair relaxed - after the chemo curls ate keratin, and laughed at Moroccan Oil, so we'll see how long this lasts - and when it's blown straight, the back is below my collar, the sides come to my jawbone, and the bangs are still about 1/2" to 1" above my eyebrows, but at least they're looking a bit fuller.  My color came back dark brown from the first bit of fuzz, so I haven't had to trim.

I don't know if that amount of growth is good, bad or neutral, but I hope that helps someone judge. :)

Itsjustme10:  thanks for the words of "hair encouragement".  This is from someone who is 13 days PFC, with fuzz balls growing on the top of my head.

Indigo:  I love her hair--need banks a little longer, but that's a look I could pull off as I have a small face and long neck.

I was thinking that hair loss and regrowth is a lot like gaining and losing weight:  the former happens so quickly and easily and the latter takes such a long, long time..

Amen Joan. Isn't that the truth. It is like watching paint dry. We are all so different in terms of regrowth as well. You do inspire me as you have been through all of this already and you have a good sense of humor still. Thank you.

Just an FYI my hair was wavy and very thin pre chemo, it was really curly when I was a young girl. It came back pretty much the same only much thicker. It seems curlier at fist because it's short and layered and as it grows the weight smoothes it out. I am now 1 1/2 years PFC and it's  touching my shoulders now.

Hikergal I held on to 50+ percent of my lashes and brows until just about 2 weeks from my last chemo treatment, about 18 weeks into chemo. Then they all fell out in a matter of minutes. Waiting for them to grow again. I think there are white fuzzier there too but very hard to see!

Joan you got it right! This is taking forever...but at least it is happening!

Hikergal, I sort of liked the buzz cut too, for all of the 3-4 days it lasted!  ha ha  It continured falling out big time for the next week, so that I went in for the close buzz (pretty much bald) cause I couldn't handle the hair everywhere. Now I'm doing scarves, hats, wigs--pretty much in that order. I haven't worn a wig for awhile cause it's been so danged hot.

I look forward to down the road when I start watching the mirror daily for regrowth as several of you gals are doing, but I'm only half way through chemo so that'll be awhile.

I would send you a link from flickr with a timeline of my recent hair shots but I can't get flickr to work on this thread. I've treid and tried, but no go. Very frustrating!! Any suggestions from those who've done it with success?
