All good points itsjust me. Hindsight is a great thing. Searching for "Joy" brings up hundreds of millions of results in google. I've achieved my goal and I'm moving on.
-
From observing the harrassers, it's clear that they have been abused themselves by someone in authority. Such rage/ anger against diverse opinions doesn't come out of nowhere.
Paradoxically, these abused people feel they must enforce the status quo by any means possible-- personal attacks and juvenile insults, even claims to "critical thinking." When their enforcement of the status quo is threatened, it triggers something that that sets them off.
Very sad that they believe lashing out and victimizing others will help heal their old wounds. I'm praying for them.
-
NattyGroves, you may be right, but it is no excuse. I've done my share of reading on abusive people and at one point it becomes a choice, an adult one, one of self-control and respect of boundaries.
These people are operating at a very basic level, one of dominance. They definitely need help
-
Maud, you are 100% right. My intention was not to excuse their behaviours. I apologize to the victims if my words came across that way.
These people are accountable for their actions, as you say, "at one point it beomes a choice, an adult one, one of self-control and respect for boundaries."
-
We definitely live in a time of its the responsibility of the consumer to protect themselves.
If you want to keep any specific information about yourself private, then dont share it on the internet...
-
I agree with Maud - the posts have gone way beyond the pale.
-
no harm done Natty, you're a very empathetic person, a treasure
-
Marie,
With respect, we cannot blame the victim here. In this case, the harassers made up much of the personal information "revealed." Lies mixed with guesses do not equal a revelation. We have to work harder at protecting people.
-
Thank you, dear Maud. I value you as a treasure too. I don't know what this forum would be without your presence.
-
We continue to be in contact with the other site.
Best,
Your Mods
-
marie, if you did read the posts on the other site, you would know that's it's 'way beyond the pale' as Sweetbean so aptly said
ETA, thank you moderators, we appreciate your presence amongst us

Good work Mods !! looks like the thread on that site may have been locked, no 'action' since last night and this thread is actually civil !!
I'm sure NatGeo will be extremely upset when they get vent of this catastrophic 'event', what a mess
-
Civility and common good manners. You can be honest and express an opinion and still be civil. If someone is not being civil and using inflammatory or provocative language, don't take the bait and respond in kind! Rise above, remain who you are and don't be dragged down to an uncivil level. Caryn
PS: another elementary school lesson -
PREACH, Caryn!
-
Thank you Mods for being in touch with the other site.
I have often read very good scientific information on the other site. It is just sad that the 'comments' section was used like that in that one blog. I never realized how mean posts could get. I know understand why you and the community have to remove some posts from time to time.
-
Mods, that's good of you to be so proactive. Natty: I hope you found "Leah" especially despicable.
-
Joy...actually, I'm surprised someone would find fault with you because you have been the peacemaker on the alternative threads, and pretty much balanced.
-
Thanks to Eve and others who have supported me by PM. I want to address the subjects of ethics and evidence since they are being discussed elsewhere.
I can understand someone on the front line of emergency medicine, dealing with accidents and emergencies every shift, being on the edge after seeing horrendous injuries and dealing with aggressive people. I have a relative who's worked in A&E which she loved, but was assaulted by a patient on the job and now is still carrying a permanent, disabling injury with a reduced income and lower QOL.
Such front line workers have to deal with many who refuse treatment or to be taken to hospital, or admitted after emergency ward treatment. They must be familiar with a patient's right to refuse treatment. They must be trained in ethics to some degree, as in how to be polite and tolerant despite the patient screaming and swearing in pain and abusing them. What concerns me is when such a person is only acting that way while at work, but in their personal life they swear and abuse cancer patients and tell them their treatment choices are wrong. They may observe patient confidentiality on the job yet spread other non patients' diagnoses and personal details across the internet, as if ethics suddenly ends on the doorstep. So they have a double standard. I'm pleased my relative has not been affected that way and is always kind and considerate whether at work or outside.
Those who claim to support evidence based medicine and rational, critical thinking may still seem to have trouble incorporating that into their private life. For example they may make assumptions about the real identity of posters without a shred of evidence then use it to denigrate the person. They may misquote others so badly that one wonders how they ever got through their exams to qualify for their job.
One of the main complaints against alternative practitioners or web sites is when they claim they can cure different conditions. We all know, having had cancer, that doctors can never tell us we're cured as it may progress at any time. So why would anyone supporting evidence based medicine declare that conventional medicine can cure diabetes or any of the other conditions I previously named? And where are the studies to support that claim? Is this another double standard? Gastric bypass surgery appears to cure NIDDM but is extreme surgery for obesity and not used primarily for that purpose. Research into cures for insulin dependant diabetes include pancreatic transplants, stem cells and other advanced procedures, but for the average person there is no cure in sight for years. It is, at the moment, incurable. Here is a fascinating article with an unusual solution, from Science Daily.
Potential 'Cure' for Type 1 Diabetes?
Note, I have never posted anywhere on medical sites or blogs, using the name "Leah". If I'm not using my real name then I use Joy, with or without extra letters as Joy is often not available.
Also I am not qualified in the medical or nutritional field and may not use correct terms, so please take my writing as it is. See your physician for medical advice.
ETA a missing word

This is out of control. If you keep posting about the happenings on another site, all you do is keep the fight going. I assume you want this nonsense to stop. So stop!
-
Yes, I wonder why this thread is still going on?
What is there to gain from this?
-
My reputation and credibility have been damaged on another site by false statements and I have the right to defend myself. It also draws the attention away from other BCO women who may not be in a position to defend themselves. I believe cyberbullying laws will soon be in place to protect people but at the moment they are patchy at best.
Also it serves as a warning to others that they can't get away with such behaviour.
I will move on now unless further allegations are made against BCO women.
-
Joy and others have been hurt badly by this. I might even say somewhat tramatized by it. I understand why Joy needs to talk about what happened. I'm sure if it were the one that was slandered, you too would be outraged. I don't know if you recall a alternative member, who a year or so ago, copied a few posts here from bco threads to her blog how many of you jumped down her throat. She wasn't calling bco members names...but broke bco rules by doing what she did, and as I recall banned. It took a while for that fire to die down. What she did wasn't nearly as devasting as what is being now said about many of our alternative bc sisters.
If anything, we need to encourage our bc sisters who have been hurt by this. (((((hugs)))))
GOD'S PEACE & HEALING .. TO ALL OF US.
-
Thanks Eve, I wouldn't say hurt or traumatised, just concerned about the stage IV ladies who are being taunted and not able to defend themselves, plus I don't want anyone to think I would post other people's medical details on another site.
Did someone say I was fat based on my face alone? Evidence based? My avatar photo was taken in December, my hair has grown since then and I finally coloured it and I'm maybe a lb or so lighter now. Who would have such low ethics that they'd taunt anyone for being overweight or due to their looks or their Dx? I don't know who Leah is but her taunting of the conventional women's Dx is not what I would ever even contemplate. I don't use the term "cut, burn and poison" as I feel it's disrespectful to our wonderful health workers who do the best with the tools they have available. My MO is a wonderful woman with a heart of gold and versed in all the latest research. And I often post the latest BC research if no one else has posted the studies, including one yesterday about an Australian phase I study about to start for a potential new drug that they hope will not affect non-cancer cells, so no hair loss, nausea etc. I wonder if that means they can give higher doses and zap those cancer cells hard? They're testing it on Leukemia but it may be suitable for solid tumours with some tweaking. Very exciting.
I love BCO and most of the women and men who post here and learn new things most days.

Would someone please be so kind as to PM me this link?
Many thanks,
Kat -
Kat, Done. I'll only send the link to those who were targeted as the privacy of members has been breached.

Thanks Joy!
Ps...I like your picture...you look just as I pictured you
-
Thanks Kat, feel free to PM me if you want to let off some steam after reading that blog.
-
Joy, that was an excellent post, classy, considering, and you look very healthy in your new pic
Let let me say again that I am so sorry for all the sisters who got hurt by this raging.....
Mardibar and her echoing 'angel'....NOBODY is forcing you to read, let alone comment on this thread
-
Well, personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I read the extremely lengthy blog Entelev/cancel and I repeat...pretty damn lengthy.
Black-cat sure went to great lengths (no pun intended) to quote actual words from both Jim Sheridan and Ed Sopcak, describe the theory and how it works. She has weak arguments about viruses and DNA and it only costs 93.00 a month not 500.00 every 20 days.
You know the old adage; Bad publicity is as good as good publicity? So true.
My gut feeling? Orac is a drone in the chemical community and if this were the 1890 she'd be tried for treason.
Thanks for helping to get the word out...that's what I have to say.
-
Last year I got raked over the coals at another site by some of the women on this thread. Now the shoe is on the other foot. I'm not saying I agree with what happened but Karma is a b#tch!
Just let it go.
