Recurrence after DCIS/double masc/reconst on my Chest Wall???

Options

Haven't been out to these boards in over 2 years ... tho I spent hours here during my DCIS diagnosis followed by a double masc and reconstruction.  Now I'm panicking ... I was just itching a mole on my chest, and I found a large hard 'ridge' on my chest wall right above my right breast.  (initial DCIS was discovered in my left breast)  I kept rubbing it and compared it to the same area on my left side - but I don't feel anything there.  I thought perhaps it was caused by the implant that has been secured under my chest wall/muscles, but if it was that, I would imagine I would have felt it on the other side due to having reconstruction on both sides.  Anyway... I wondered if anyone has advice or input that would help.  Has anyone heard of bc recurring on the chest wall? I don't have much tissue.  I just had my last exam with my surgeon in April and told me I was clear for a year - and just to do exams looking for lumps.  Well, this is different than a lump ... I would appreciate your comments.  Thanks so much ... sue

Sue- unfortunately yes recurrence can happen in reconstructed breasts but it is rare. There are also a number of other things that can cause lumps, ridges, hardened areas and should be checked. I had and still have a lump above my mastectomy scar. Ultrasound radiologist recommended breast MRI. Oncologist recommended biopsy. May 9th I had a surgical biopsy but the specimen didn't survive processing. my surgeon felt that some muscle tissue had herniated through the scar and he released that. But the lumps still there and in fact there is no scar under where the lump is. It lies about 1 cm above the scar line. I will have a 3D ultrasound next month and repeat surveillance. The bottom line is, get it checked. Have it imaged. Put your mind at ease. Of course, that was what I was looking for and I still don't have it but I am not giving up.

Its probably a ridge from the implant. Along the bottom of my implant there are bumps and dips and hardened areas. I have implants on both sides too and they dont feel exactly the same. So get it checked out to be sure but I wouldnt stress so much over it. Unfortunately, once we have been diagnosed its constant panic mode! Hang in there!

Thanks for your words of support. I have an appt on Thursday for an ultrasound, then next Thursday with the dr to review the results with me.  I'm hopeful that it's something related to the implant, but we'll see.  Best wishes to both of you -- the worry never entirely goes away, does it?  Thanks again --
