Nutrition and cancer

Hi,

At first I would like to say that I am not a doctor and the content of this message is not a medical advise, just informations I read in Internet.

I read studies regarding cancer patients which were interesting. They show that if people make physical activity , the relapse rate and/or cancer was lower (an the surviva rate higher). I read it also reduces cancer risk for people who never had a cancer (prevention). I also read it's good to practice phisical activity on the long term goning (al the live)

But as I said I am not a doctor. I read that people who have a cancer and/or are under cancer treatment must ask their oncologist regarding fysical activity. And ask him how to practice physical activity in the best condition and safe conditions for you., And discuss as soon as possible in order to take advantage of this as soon as possible. It wuld be a pity to wait before asking if it increases the survival rate.

REgarding this subject. I read that there could be an adequate amount of sport.Sport increases life expectancy but in a study they noticed that too much sport (runing in the study) could not be good.

As I read it's the same for woman fertility, too much is not good but a reasonable amount of sport is good. Form men I dont' know

But I am not a doctor and I don't know if these studies are good or not. Ask your doctor or your oncologist about what I read in this message.

I also read that pricticing bicycle in certain conditions can be bad for fertility

It's also important to work with a registered dietitian that knows well oncology, these 2 specialists have to work together. And of course you have to continue to follow your treatment. (1)

I also read that, even if you're not sick you must have a medical examination before starting to do physical activity.

Have a nice day

lAl

(1) Ask your oncologist to find you a good registered dietitian who knows well oncology. This ist important beacuse many studies showed an increased survival and thanks to the advises of a reg. dietitian. (before , during and on the long term going after the treatment). The name of this kind of specialist can vary from a country to another, that's why it's good to ask your oncologist the name of the most efficient kind of nutrition specialist for your situation

I know I wrote a lot about the same subjects ;-) But I am very interested in this subject because someone in my family had cancer (and is cured now) ;-)ore (for people with cancer or not)

I think my long term survivor is due to avoid stress as much as possible, stay away from negative people, not deny any cravings and wants, I have more comfort foods, I eat whatever and whenever I want.

I pamper myself. Long term survival, I see at my work in a cancer center, is a mix of good follow up to treat sooner if there are problems and  luck.

It is not the persons fault or something she did if there is a recurrence or a second cancer. It just happens.

I hope you are right but I ate healthy and exercised before I got diagnosed and here I am.  I am trying even harder to eat even more healthy.  I eat less meats/poultry now and more veggies.  I also believe that stress is a factor.  I quit my high stress career and now stay at home and take care of my family.  I also take yoga and really love it.  I hope these changes make some kind of difference.

I think exercise and diet have been found to be especially effective for TN women, although they help reduce the risk of recurrence for all women.  However, dreaming is right, too - BC can come back, no matter what you do.  Personally, I like to do everything possible to prevent recurrence, so I eat very healthily and exercise every day.  But that isn't for everyone.

I think diet and exercise help us live longer overall, but it can't hurt to practice it if we've had BC either.  Study after study has proven that regular moderate exercise reduces recurrence rate (google it and you'll see), but I don't know the stats for ER/PR + ,or TN or any of that.  I ate "clean", nearly all plant based, and was a pretty regular athlete before my dx. Have I now said "what the h*ll, I'm eating anything I want, my healthy lifestyle didn't protect me?" No way. It may very well have kept my BC from being any worse than it was.

Finally, I refuse to blame BC on stress. I can't find any hard science that links stress to cancer.  Our bodies are built to handle stress over time, and I can't avoid stress in my life at times. Who can? I won't feel guilty about it.  My husband was in Iraq for a year, left just after I was let go from my job and I had to scramble to find another one.  Could I have helped it? No. Did I have stress because of all that?  Yes.  But I'm unwilling to say I got BC because of it.

    Just saying.

    Hi,
Here is a supplement of information regarding physical activity and cancer.
I read studies that showed that if people do fisical activity it decreases cancer and relapse rate. IT decreases also cancer rate for people that don't have a cancer (prevention).
But ask your oncologist about fisical activity (and doctor for people who don't have a cancer), and ask as soon as posible in order to take benefit of it as soon as posible.
And for people who want to start practicing fisical activity (with or without cancer) I read that it's important to have a medical examination before starting to practice it.

But regarding this subject. I read that there could be an adequate amount of physical activity.Physical activity increases life expectancy but in a study they noticed that too much physical activity (runing in the study) could not be good.

As I read it's the same for woman fertility,a correct amount of fisical activity is good but too much is not good. For men I dont' know.

I also read that bycicling could be bad for man and woman fertility regarding to the conditions and intensity. Ask your doctor because I am not a doctor myself

But I am not a doctor and I don't know if these studies are good or not. I also don't know what too much activity means. Ask your doctor or your oncologist about what I wrote in this message.
If you spoke about my last message to people, tell them about this new one but they also have to ask thir oncologist or doctor.

I whish you all the best.

    Steel
